As the snow falls and a bitter wind blows, Detective Ellie Reeves is devastated to discover the bodies of two little girls, alone and frozen on an icy lake, in the isolated town of Cold Mountain. The girls are holding hands, with matching bows in their blond curls, and when Ellie realizes they are twin sisters. But, back at the police station, she is horrified to discover that nobody has reported the sisters missing. Then an abandoned car is found near the girls’ bodies, and Ellie learns that the female driver is in hospital. A DNA test shows that the woman in hospital is the twins’ mother Barbara, and Ellie rushes to interview her. But when Ellie arrives at the hospital she is faced with an empty bed. Barbara has fled and her house is abandoned too. When another little girl disappears, Ellie knows that finding Barbara might well be the key to saving an innocent child
The tenth outing for Ellie, whilst it could be read on it’s own I’d recommend reading the previous book as this one starts a few weeks after the last book & Ellie is still dealing with the fallout. Another well written edge of the seat read. This book won’t be for everyone as it does deal with some traumatic events. There were twists, turns & red herrings as the team rush to find Barbara & solve the case. A well written book with strong characters & a well paced story. Once I’d started it I found it very hard to put down & burned the midnight oil to finish it.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a special copy of this book; all thoughts and opinions are my own

Detective Ellie and her team are on the hunt for a killer, young twin girls were found and it's only the beginning of this mystery.
I loved that I had no clue what was going on. The author connected quite a few players and possible suspects. Watching how they connected was a mystery in itself.
Other bodies are in play keeping you guessing, then a complete hook turn showed the killer and why and my head was spinning.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story and can't wait for the next one.

Reeves is racing to find out why two sisters, twins, are dead and why their alleged mother is on the run.
The holidays are in full swing in the mountains but there will be no joy for Ellie until she figures this one out.
I felt like a dog chasing its tail because I could t quite connect the dots between the friends group and the kids until late in the book. I also couldn’t pin down the killer.
I did yell finally at the end of the book because Herron gave me joy with what’s revealed with Ellie!!

This one gives you an emotional and gripping mystery. I adore Ellie and am always invested in her character. There are some interesting things happening in this one and it will keep you guessing right up to the reveal. And that ending! This fans heart is so happy!

While a first for me, this is apparently one of a lengthy series. A surprise ending but a strange premise for murder. Too many strange coincidences and things to keep the story going (if someone was at risk would you wait until the following day to find them). Quick read.

Fast-paced & fantastic!😍

I loved the plot and Rita Herron's writing style. No excess, just lots of action, thrills and twists as Ellie Reeves, FBI agent Derrick and SAR backwoods specialist Cord are on the hunt for a killer destroying families. Until the true motive bursts out at the end, I was truly baffled and found the chase exceptionally suspenseful: just my cup of tea. I also really favor stories like this where the multiple POV gives you insights into the minds of the victims and killer as well as the investigation team.

Highly recommended.

You don't need to read what came before but this is such a great series I don't see any reason you would not want to. And the earlier stories also help you understand Ellie's love life, which has evolved nicely as the series progresses, to the point where this book ends with a very satisfying note.

Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for sharing a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.

The Ice Sisters by Rita Herron is the 10th book in the excellent Detective Ellie Reeves series and I have loved all of Rita's books especially as this book picks up 3 weeks after her last one, called The Sleep Girls.
Ellie finally has taken some time off for herself which she so needed, after what happened in the last book. She goes for a quick walk before she has to be at her parents house later. The snow has started to fall heavier now and the wind has become bitter. Detective Ellie Reeves discover the bodies of two little girls, alone and frozen on an icy lake, in the isolated town of Cold Mountain. The poor girls are holding hands, they are wearing matching bows in their blond curls, and when Ellie realises they are twin sisters, her heart breaks into two for their mother, who must be desperately wondering where her little darlings are.

Cord or Derrick has tried to phone Detective Ellie Reeves and can't get ahold of her, they both become concerned about her, when her parents informed them that Ellie was supposed to be at theirs for their family Thanksgiving meal that evening, and have become worried.

They both set out to look for Detective Ellie Reeves . Finally they find her lying over the two little girls trying to keep them warm and protect them from the snow and the biter wind. But she knows she is too late to save them.

Now, back in the warmth at the police station, she is horrified to discover that nobody has reported the sisters missing.

Are their parents in danger too?

An abandoned car is found near the girls’ bodies, and Detective Ellie Reeves learns that the female driver is in hospital, she prays that the injured woman will know something about the twins.

You will need to read the book to find out what happens next....... But, WoW this book was excellent and was a superb read.

I highly recommend this excellent series. I loved it.

Big Thank you to NetGalley and especially Bookouture for my ARC. Hugs x

Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for the chance to read the ARC of The ice sisters by Rita Herron. This is the 10th book of the Detective Ellie Reeves series, and I enjoyed it just as much as the previous books. The book picks up shortly after the end of The sleeping girls and Ellie has taken time off because of the emotional toll the previous case had on her. However after an accident while she is hiking, she stumbles on the bodies of twin girls. After being rescued by Cord and Derrick, she is horrified to discover no one has reported the girls missing. As Ellie investigates, the case becomes more and more confusing.
With short chapters this is a fast read with twists and turns, and a great ending!

This is a book to start when you have a lot of time. I binge read this in one day. It is fast paced and so engrossing that it's hard to put down. Ellie is out for a hike and finds two little girls bodies. She is hit from behind before she can find any clues. It is then up to Huck and Derrick to find her in the woods during a blizzard. A little concussion won't stop Ellie from finding answers about the girls. As they dig for information, they wonder about the parents and why no one has come forward. Then there is a car crash where the victim has no identification. A homeless woman and her daughter are at the fringes of the winter festival until the little girl is kidnapped by Santa. It is non stop action that leaves you trying to figure out how everything goes together and why someone is after the girls while at the same time wanting to read faster so you can just have the answers. At the end, we get a hint that the issues between Huck and Ellie may finally be fixed. I'm ready for the next book in the series.

Ellie goes for a quick excursion into the woods on Thanksgiving - only to become injured. And discover the bodies of two missing little girls.
With the help of Fox and Cord, Ellie begins the hunt.
Great addition to this series - and finally some movement on Ellie's relationship status.

Ellie, Derrick and Cord are thrown back in to the deep end when Ellie stumbles across the bodies of two young girls when she is out for a hike.

The investigation turns out to be more complicated than originally thought, making the investigation take many twists and turns.

Ellie is determined to track down the killer and when other murders are linked to the girls she needs Derrick and Cord’s help.

This story kept me gripped to the page and I wanted to find the killer as much as Ellie.

The connection between Ellie, Cord and Derrick is still in play, but things become a little clearer at the very end.

This was a thrilling, fast paced and full of interesting characters.

The Ice Sisters by Rita Herron is a highly recommended investigative thriller and the tenth novel in the series featuring Detective Ellie Reeves.

On a hike to the lake, Detective Ellie Reeves has an accident which causes her to discover two dead little girls, twins. Ranger Cord McClain and Special Agent Derrick Fox rush in to find Ellie when she doesn't show up for Thanksgiving dinner at her parents, and they find both Ellie and the little girls. Back at the station later Ellie finds that no one has reported two girls missing.

At the same time a car accident near where the girls were found results in a woman, Barbara, being hospitalized. Barbara leaves the hospital before being interviewed but a DNA test confirms that she is the girls' mother, however, Barbara's home shows no sign of any children living there. The investigation seems to be stalled, and then another little girl goes missing.

This is an excellent well-written investigative thriller that will hold your complete attention. As the team searches for the killer, the short chapters from multiple points-of-view help to keep the pace fast while adding tension, complexities, and twists. There is more than one suspect who are all equally creepy.

Those new to the series should note that even though this is the tenth book in the series there is enough background information provided that it can easily be read as a standalone novel. Those who are following the series are going to relish this latest case and the final denouement.

The Ice Sisters is very highly recommended for the right reader but note that the subject matter, while about families who want their children, also involves the death of children which was a difficult topic for me and resulted in a lower recommendation. Thanks to Bookouture for providing me with an advance reader's copy via NetGalley. My review is voluntary and expresses my honest opinion.

The review will be published on Barnes & Noble and Amazon.

On Thanksgiving day with a blizzard closing in Detective Ellie Reeves stumbles across a heartbreaking scene. While Detective Reeves and her try to find a killer, children begin to be abducted. It’s a race against time. Will Detectives Reeves and her team be able to unravel the tangled web of lies and save the children in time, or is it already too late?

Once again, Rita Herron has done it again! Ice Sisters is an edge of your seat, heart pounding mystery, that will leave you wanting more.

This is the 10th book in the Detective Ellie Reeves series.
Ellie is hiking when she falls and discovers the beautiful twins, lying on the ice.
Who could have killed two such innocents. Ellie can’t imagine but she will find out.
A great read.
Thank you to NetGalley and Rita Herron for my copy.

YES. YES. YES. this book was everything. Rita Herron strikes again. captivating and made me stay up till like twelve in the morning just to finish it. the twists and turns had me gasping and guessing whats happens next. a five star for sure. the ending made the 10 books leading up to that point soooo worth it 🫶

This installment picks up 3 weeks after the last one, with Ellie having taken some time to herself after the events of the last book, we all know how that ended. Neither Cord or Derrick can get ahold of her and the former becomes concerned when her parents say she was supposed to show up for Thanksgiving that evening. This is the beginning of another heartbreaking case that packs an emotional punch with the death of twin girls that Ellie happens to stumble upon, something I wont get into to much, don't want to spoil anything! The case is very confounding to the detectives as nothing seems to connect. Especially after a woman in car accident might have a loose link to the girls. Its all very strange and as always with an Ellie story, there is never just one dead or missing person. There is a lot of crazy in and around her town! I am desperate for Cord and Ellie to get their s..t together, I hate when it drags on forever! Don't get me wrong, I love Derrick, just not for her.
I really enjoyed this one, and I was very happy with the ending! I hope everyone loves it as much as I did!

I picked up this mystery without completely realizing I was ten books into a series, but the author did a good job of bringing “newcomers” into this mystery series, so this can easily be read as a stand-alone.

Detective Ellie Reeves is a workaholic police investigator, who was escaping a tough case on a retreat in a remote mountain inn in the Appalachians. On a hike, she discovers two murdered little girls, sisters who appear to have died together. This sets about an investigation that becomes increasingly disturbing, as Ellie realizes no one is reporting missing girls.

The case becomes more complex as the investigation wears on, and it’s clear many witnesses aren’t talking. The disappearance of another young girl raises the stakes. Ellie, FBI agent Derrick and tracker Cord follow the twists and turns in this fast-paced mystery. This was a good page-turner, and I liked the Appalachian setting and multi-point of view narration.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy - all thoughts are my own.

I have been a fan of the Detective Ellie Reeves series since the beginning, and once again, Herron did not disappoint!! I was hanging on to the edge of my seat with the wild ride the last half of that book took me on. Could not put it down, but RITA! That ending!! I’ve been waiting 10 books for some answers and I’m about to riot with where you ended it 😂 (If you know, you know!!). I’ll be impatiently waiting for book 11 now.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for my ARC in exchange for my honest feedback!

Fist-Pump Ending!

Herron delivers once again in book 10, "The Ice Sisters". Detective Ellie Reeves stumbles upon her next case during a hike, when she discovers the bodies of two girls.

After a harrowing case and the news that Cord was engaged and about to become a father, she heeds her boss's advice and takes leave, staying out of touch with everyone except her parents. After weeks of unanswered texts, Cord finally heads to the station, only to discover that no one has heard from Ellie and that she didn't arrive home for Thanksgiving dinner. Mobilizing the team, a search commences to find Ellie before it's too late, with everyone anxiously hoping she hasn't fallen victim to the blizzard battering the isolated locale of Cold Mountain.

Upon finding Ellie and the twin girls, no one could have anticipated the events that would unfold. Do they have another serial killer on their hands, preying on young girls, or is this crime motivated by something else? As different clues are revealed, the team struggles to piece together the overarching puzzle.

This book delivers an exciting mix of action, suspense, frustration, and romance. I'm eagerly awaiting what's in store in book 11.

(Note - your reaction may be different to mine, depending on if you are team Ranger or team FBI)
