Katie Campbell is a travel writer and podcaster known as "Miss Adventure" because she'll try anything once and it always comes with some form of funny misadventure. Invited on a dream vacation to a Scottish castle for a three-week Edwardian experience, Katie finds herself exploring her ancestral roots in the beautiful wilds of a small island that comes complete with an all-too-surly Scotsman who has her questioning her wandering ways. Graeme MacKerrow's only desire is to see his family safe and orderly in their ancestral home, even if that comes with renting it to eccentric English folk who want to play dress-up. What he never expected was a tall American woman prone to accidents who makes him wonder if the life he thought was complete couldn't use some more misadventures.

Katie is a super lovable lead in a story full of fun moments and emotional situations that kept me turning pages in delight. Her romance with Graeme and interactions with his young nephew are adorable and swoony in a way that not many contemporary romance novels manage. There is sweetness and emotional maturity that are woven into the many interactions Katie experiences during her time in Scotland. It makes her a well-rounded character whose story you're happy to follow. That Graeme is a walking green flag is a delightful extra.

I'd also like to congratulate Basham for how well she weaves loss and mourning into the story. Both Katie's and Graeme's families have suffered similar losses, but their methods of dealing with them are opposites. This gives Katie a chance to explore her feelings, and Basham to give some unexpectedly emotional and deep things to think about. I enjoyed the heck out of the romance, but this element alone would have made me give this wonderful read the full 5-star review.

Delighted thanks to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson for the wonderfully romantic read!
