Frankie Turner is too smart and outspoken for society, which is why she's resolved to be a spinster governess who fades into the background. But when her sister disappears, the mysterious Dove makes a deal to help find her in exchange for Frankie spying on Jasper Jones, the devilish owner of a gambling hell and an uncle in need of a governess for his precocious teenage niece. What begins as mutual distrust quickly becomes a much softer feeling, even as things around them get ever more dangerous.

I'm really enjoying this new trend of historical romances that focus more on the rebels and outsiders than on the Ton. The fact that Jasper worked and fought for his fortune and that Frankie couldn't care less about society's expectations is a big part of why I found this book so entertaining. They're constantly commenting about how things shouldn't be done and do them anyway because it's what makes sense, no matter what the snobbish Ton thinks.

It's fun and thought-provoking without pushing the injustices in your face, and that's not even going into how sweet the romance is.

Very happy thanks to NetGalley and Forever for the fun read!
