The Lake of Lost Girls hit all the points I wanted for a fast paced, heart pounding thriller. I loved the planning and execution of this novel. I found it really interesting. The time jumps weren't confusing, and I found the narrative gripping from start to finish. The ending was very satisfying, and while I did see the twist coming, it didn't take any of the enjoyment out of it.
Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
The audiobook of Lake of Lost Girls by Katherine Greene is a haunting, atmospheric listen. The narrator’s chilling delivery pulls you into this gripping mystery, full of dark secrets and twists you won’t see coming. Perfect for fans of eerie, small-town suspense!
I was so engrossed in hating all of the men in this book and thinking that they all did it, that I totally did not see it coming. If you are looking to get the big ick about all men, read this book!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!
4.5/5⭐️
I LOVED this book so much. It kept me on the edge of my seat. The narrator was fantastic and kept me engaged through the entire book. I really enjoyed the alternating timelines and various POVs, including the podcast.
Highly recommend and I can't wait to read more from Katherine Greene.
First of all, The Lake of Lost Girls was written by two people?!?! I had no idea that Katherine Greene was the pen name for writers A. Meredith Walters and Claire C. Riley, and the book certainly doesn't read like it was written by two people either. Everything was entirely seamless and now I am definitely keen to get to their debut together, The Woods are Waiting. The podcast element in here was top notch and integrated perfectly into the rest of the storyline. I love anything with a podcast, and this was probably one of my favorites to date! I also highly enjoyed the viewpoint shifts between Lindsey in the present and Jessica in the past before she went missing blended with the podcast.
The audiobook for The Lake of Lost Girls was pure perfection and definitely the route I would recommend for reading. Helen Laser, Frankie Corzo, Sara Young, Haley Taylor & David Bendena checked all the boxes with their narration and I was completely drawn in by the writing and narration alike. I also loved how the podcast was presented in the audio, and it’s the little things like that, that create a perfect audiobook experience. I was completely blown away by the ending, and while I do think you need to suspend disbelief to some extent, it was certainly explosive, and I didn’t see it coming. Read this if you are looking for an immersive whodunnit, characters who exude bad behavior, and twisty cold cases!
The Lake of Lost Girls excels at building suspense. The old case and scattered clues let readers piece together the mystery before the main character, adding tension and making the climax impactful. It’s satisfying to feel like a detective alongside the characters.
The podcast format was an intriguing choice, adding readability and momentum to the story. Mixed media formats are among my favorites, and the podcast segments contributed to the pacing and engagement.
However, the podcast format felt inconsistent. It either needed a larger role in the narrative or to be removed. It mostly summarized upcoming events, which felt redundant, and wasn’t consistently tied to the main plot. A stronger connection between the podcast and the protagonist’s investigation would have improved the story.
Overall, The Lake of Lost Girls is suspenseful and compelling, with a thoughtful exploration of sisterhood and true crime culture. While not perfect, it’s a solid read for fans of twisty mysteries and mixed-media storytelling.

I really liked this one on audio, it kept me interested throughout. I found that the pacing of the story was perfect.
📖:
I didn’t predict the exact twist at the end, but I wasn’t too far off, so the shock value was minimal.
The story is told with alternating timelines and multiple characters which allows the author to keep the reader guessing throughout.
Meh 🫤:
I wasn’t too fond of the “insta-love” aspect of the story.
For example, the likelihood of the MC Lindsey falling head over heels (almost immediately) over a man that she meets in the most SUS way is just a bit cringe. 😬 Especially learning about his character in the book.
I won’t say much more about this to avoid any spoilers, but I will end by saying if it weren’t for the cringe nature of the relationships between these characters, I’d have rated the book a bit higher.
🎵: I enjoyed the narrators and the dialogue!
Ooooo this was a goodie. The audiobook was SO well done, I loved the podcast perspective. This book follows the cold case of four missing girls from the same small town - they all went to the same college, were all connected in different ways, and yet the police never connected the two cases together. Flash forward 24 years, and the (much younger) sister of one of the missing girls runs into a reporter. It appears that some bones were found in the lake in her hometown.... is it her? Has her sister Jessica finally been found? What happened?
Just when I thought I had this one figured out, BAM another twist popped up. There were three different men who all had connections to the four different girls, and you were constantly guessing which one could have done it. This one kept me guessing until the very end, and I loved it!!
WOWIE! This was soo good! I have been DNFing books left and right but i picked up this audiobook and I could not put it down! I loved the podcast aspect to the story. I would love a sequel with the same podcasters.
The Lake of Lost Girls is a mystery told through the perspectives of true crime podcasters, a grieving sister, and a troubled college student who -- along with three other girls on the same campus -- went missing in 1999. There are three main suspects but no clear idea of exactly what happened, until the sister teams up with one of them to finally figure it out.
Wow, who saw that ending coming? Not me. This was a rollercoaster ride from start to finish, with lots of little clues dropped here and there to keep the reader guessing. The podcasters made me so mad and reminded me why I don't listen to much true crime anymore. So much of it is solely for entertainment and looky-loo purposes, and the 10 Seconds to Vanish hosts are the embodiment of that.
Also, all of the men in this book absolutely suck. But Jess' sister Lindsay is a badass.
Great audiobook narration by Helen Laser, as always, with help from some other quality voices.
I thought for sure I had this figured out like 10% in and I was definitely wrong. What a wild ride!! The audiobook was great. I loved the podcast element and the different narrators. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this audiobook ARC.
Katherine Greene delivers a hauntingly atmospheric thriller in The Lake of Lost Girls. Set against the backdrop of a serene yet eerie lakeside town, the story masterfully intertwines mystery, psychological tension, and deeply buried secrets. Greene's writing is vivid and immersive, pulling readers into the chilling world of the protagonist as she unravels a decades-old disappearance that holds startling connections to her own past.
The characters are complex and well-drawn, with the protagonist’s inner turmoil serving as a compelling counterpoint to the external mystery. The pacing is taut, building suspense with each chapter, while the revelations are both surprising and satisfyingly earned.
Greene’s talent lies in her ability to create an atmosphere of quiet dread, making The Lake of Lost Girls a gripping read for fans of psychological thrillers and dark mysteries. It's a book that lingers in your mind long after the final page. Highly recommended.
Thank you @DreamscapeMedia and @NetGalley for the ARC. The narrator of this book was awesome. Perfect for this book. If you are wanting to read or. listen to a great thriller, this is the book. I was guessing all the way to the end. A sister is trying to find out about her older sister who vanished in the blink of her eye. So good.
This was such a good dark and twisty cold case audiobook!!! I loved the alternate timelines and podcast elements!! I was hooked from the beginning and couldn’t stop listening.
Jessica was in college in 1998 when she went missing. Twenty four years later her younger sister Lindsey starts digging to try to uncover the mystery of what happened to her sister. Even though I knew earlier on who the suspect was…I was shocked at the twisted ending!!!! Also I think the author does a good job of making you question everyone! We read this for @thrillersbythebookclub.mke and it led to some great discussions!
Thank you @netgalley @crookedlanebooks and @katherinegreeneauthor for this eARC and ALC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
What the heck did I just read? Man, what a messed up family! I knew from the beginning who the killer was and I had an idea of why, but it was still so messed up. Definitely not your typical serial killer case. It was interesting to watch it play out, but it’s no wonder Jessica and Lindsey turned out the way they did. Honestly, most of the characters were pretty terrible people outside of what happened with the family. That’s not something I normally like reading, but I think it was still pretty entertaining to read!
Huge thanks to Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for sending me this ARC for review! All of my reviews are given honestly!
The lake of the lost girls.
The duel storyline about missing college sorority student, Jessica Fadley- who disappeared in spring 1999. An unsolved mystery-,along with 3 other girls from her dorm.
In 2023, Lindsay, Jessica’s sister is trying to get to the bottom of the case that was never solved, Where her sisters body is.
As they pull the other victims from a nearby lake but never Jessica, Lindsay teams up with a journalist who pops in her life at random knowing a lot about the twisted case. Why does he know so much??
This storyline was decent. I liked the duel timelines that shared each of girls sides. The ending didn’t shock me. At all. I think it would work for you if you don’t consider yourself Magnum PI. I saw it coming and it was pre-annoying that we went that way. Too lengthy to then just dump the ending like a hot potato with no background on how we got there.
Just okay.
What a gripping book! I was initially excited to listen to this audiobook The Lake of Lost Girls by Katherine Greene because Helen Laser is one of the narrators and I love her narration! I loved the full cast on this audiobook. All the other narrators Frankie Corzo, Sara Young, Haley Taylor, and David Bendena are all great too. This suspense novel features dual timelines, multiple perspectives, podcast clips and the mystery of three missing female college students. I did not guess the ending! I was so curious to find out the ending so I read this book quickly in three days. The podcast parts were a bit over the top but I enjoyed the ride.
I really enjoyed the full cast narration as well as the podcast elements of this story.
The Lake of Lost Girls is told in multiple POVs and dual timelines, which immersed me in the story from start to finish.
With twists and turns around every corner and multiple suspects that all had motives and opportunities I was on the edge of my seat waiting for each new clue to drop and to see how it would end.
Which was a complete surprise! I feel like that ending came out of left field, but once you know the truth other little things you read before that didn't seem important start to make sense.
This had me hooked, I loved Lindsey and how the story of the disappearance of her sister and the other women at the university unfolded.
I will definitely be reading more by this author.
Ever since "Sadie" by Courtney Summers I have immensely enjoyed audiobooks with podcast vibes. In this book, Lindsey's sister Jessica went missing 20 years ago and now a body has been discovered. A podcast duo has taken on the case based on Lindsey's statement, and they provide commentary through the rest of the chapters. The book is told through multiple points of view and jumps between past and present. Throughout the book you are given clues to what happened, but are left wondering who really did it? Was it the professor, the boyfriend, the dad, or was it Jessica herself? While the ending does wrap everything up, it was not as satisfying as I hoped for. Still an enjoyable book with good narrators.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this eARC in audiobook format.
