I have absolutely loved Memorize Scripture by Jackie Angel. Whether you are a novice or have already made this practice a habit, I think Jackie offers a simple, informative, and adoptable approach. I appreciated the background of her own story and how she started this journey. Additionally, tips along the way for involving her family makes this a family-friendly tool. The various tools and approaches can meet anyone where they are in this journey and offer a new perspective. Broken into twelve chapters that address the common longings and issues of every Christian’s life, it is highly applicable. The beginning of each chapter has a meaningful background or intro to the theme that primes the heart to better receive the verses selected. There are various ways you can approach how to use this book. One chapter per month and each chapter has multiple verses to choose from. Many of the chapters correspond to liturgical seasons, but you can also just pick a topic and select a verse from there. There are tips and tricks provided as well as recommendations for making the work last. I read this on an e-reader, which is an easy and portable way to take it with me wherever I go, but I was drawn to the art and graphics around the verses and the journaling space and think a paper copy version would be a great addition.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher via NetGalley, and all opinions expressed are solely my own, freely given.

I feel like this was more a book about WHY you should memorize scripture then a book of HOW to memorize scripture. But I thought the book was beautifully laid out. I really enjoyed the stories and loved all the scripture options so I could just right into memorizing!

It’s only January, but I can already tell this will be one of my favorite reads of 2025. As someone who has always aspired to memorize scripture but struggled to find a starting point, this book is an absolute gem. It seamlessly weaves wisdom from saints, Catholic teachings, and scripture, providing both guidance and inspiration.

The book’s structure is one of its standout features. Each chapter begins with a thoughtful reflection that sets the tone for the theme. At the conclusion of each chapter, readers are invited to delve deeper through a short prayer, insightful reflection questions, and carefully selected scripture verses tailored to the chapter’s focus. These verses serve as an excellent foundation for anyone looking to begin or enhance their scripture memorization journey.

I have more to say on my blog, Anita'sBookList.

I love how straight forward this book was. Memorizing scripture is not the norm in the Catholic faith but this book made it approachable. I will be adopting these ideas into my classroom.

This book is a labor of love designed best, perhaps, for "beginners" looking to grow in their relationship with the Lord and maybe wondering where to begin. With Jackie's practical tips and thoughtful selections, anyone who takes the time to work through these chapters will undoubtedly find their Catholic faith strengthened and discover their hearts being transformed by the word of God, with plenty of encouragement along the way.

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly.”— Colossians 3:16

But how can God’s Word dwell in us if we haven’t memorized it? How can it comfort and guide us if it doesn’t live in our hearts?

**Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this advanced e-copy of Memorize Scripture, in exchange for an honest review.**

I’m always looking for new tips, tricks and unique ways to memorize scripture so I was excited to score this arc. My favorite way to memorize scripture is using music. It usually helps me the most and sticks. I didn’t know anything about Jackie Angel, but after reading I learned she has a podcast called “Memorize Scripture”. She is also a songwriter/singe, worship leader and practicing catholic. I don’t share the same theology as she does, and at first I wasn’t sure I would finish it - but I’m glad
I did because regardless of her religion/beliefs I was super impressed with her heart and the calling God has placed on her life. She has written a fantastic little guide that really encourages all - from every “Christian faith background “ to memorize scriptures and she includes practical lessons from her own life and experiences without using religious instruction. It’s just to the point and easy without all the added “opinions” and focuses on the Bible as the center. I would definitely recommend to anyone wanting more ideas to help remember scripture. I am also looking forward to checking out her podcast.
