Three short stories about women at different ages and stages. I'm reluctant to call it a 'collection' as it's only three stories and I feel a collection should be more than just the three.
Also, it's difficult to rate the whole book as I felt that maybe each story should be rated on its own merit. They're all very different.
So ... the first story for me was a 4-star story about a young girl who creates an illusion about the perfection of her best friend's family. It was quite realistic as teens usually don't see the reality of how things really are. They create their own reality according to what suits them, and they tend to live in their own little bubble - until the truth is revealed often in ways that shock them!
The second story is about a young woman with cancer, searching for someone who will truly understand her and not just hear her when she speaks but who will really listen. It was surprisingly funny, but I couldn't really connect with it, so for me this one was a 3.
The third story about a widowed elderly aunt was my favourite! She brings home a much younger boyfriend and shocks everyone. I loved this story - she just did what she wanted and to hell with everyone else. At her age, she really didn't care, and honestly I thought, why should she and how dare everyone judge her?! I gave this one a 5!
So overall, I'd probably rate the whole book at about a 4.
