I sometimes feel like every very book I read about a specific thing claims to that that's THE backbone of civilization, but props to Queeney because I think he's the one who's done the best job of pointing out the importance of rope to humanity's progress. Maybe not THE backbone, but certainly incredibly important and engrossing.

The writting is really good and you can see it in the way that the information is set out and presented. It's not just facts and figures, it's stories and human achievements that highlight moments in time when the progess, creation, or usage of rope had a big impact on civilization. You're not reading dry facts, but stories that give you a lot of information in an entertaining, digestible manner.

Very happy thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the fascinating read!
