The Baby Swap by Daniel Hurst

This will hook you in from the beginning. It is a fast-paced thriller full of twists and turns that will keep you wanting more.

We get to follow Jade and Avril and the chapters are each told from their POV. One of them does the unthinkable and swaps her baby with another newborn baby on the ward. As the reasons for this start to unfold the author throws one shocking twist after another. We get to see a glimpse of the Past so we can start to understand how someone could make such a decision.

The author is great at making you torn about who to root for as just as you feel you are starting to understand, things are turned around. It definitely had me turning the pages to see what was going to happen next.

If you love a twisty, fast-paced thriller that is easy to read, this is the book for you.

Thanks to #NetGalley and #Bookouture for the book #TheBabySwap by #DanielHurst. This book was super crazy and right up my alley with stalking, manipulation and bullying. Jade has wanted revenge against Avril for a long while and now sees her chance. It seems they are both at the same hospital delivering baby boys on the same day. Quietly, Jade sneaks over and switches the babies. She now has Avril’s and Avril has her baby. Will she get away with this?

The basis of this book was what immediately grabbed my attention, and I was engaged and turning the pages as fast as possible to know eyar would happen next. I was sad as it came to an end, but wow! Twisty, twisty - oh my! If you know Daniel Hurst, you’re ready to buckle up for a ride, and Baby Swap did not fall short on expectations. I loved being taken through multiple points of view, following both mothers involved in the swap. This was such an easy ready because I didn’t want to put it down! A book with plot twists and reveals is what I live for - thinking I know the twist and being proved wrong never gets old - and I was not disappointed here. I also felt a connection for both mothers, which is rare for me as I usually connect to only one main character in a story with multiple POVs. I will certainly recommend this book to all my physiological thriller fans out there!

I have to say I was interested in this book when it was compared to authors like Freida McFadden. I do have to say I am still yet to find a better author however I can see the similarities. The prologue of this book left me with so many questions making me want to carry on reading to find out the answers. There was a few points that I personally thought there was simple solutions to the problems faced. However I did enjoy this book and found the twist very good. I give this book a 3.5 out of 5 stars.

If you like reading Freida McFadden books, then check out Daniel Hurst's books--equally mind blogging and will keep you awake all night!

Jade ad Avril are pregnant and enter into the same hospital to give birth. After giving birth, Jade on a whim decided to swap her own baby with Avril's baby--an act of revenge she wanted against Avril for something that happened seven years ago. As they went to their respective houses, Avril feels that there is something wrong with her baby. While her husband Bobby dismisses that Avril might be suffering from post natal depression, Avril believes that her baby is actually not her own baby. Meanwhile Jade lived in fear that Avril might realize that she had swapped the babies.

This was a chilling thriller and quiet a page turner as well. The story is told in both Jade and Avril's POV. The event that happened seven years ago is also told in Jade's POV mostly. Avril is fearing about karma as she knows that she has done horrible things in the past and had hurt someone badly while Jude lived in fear that the police might come at the doorstep and arrest her for swapping the babies. I like how the author balanced the emotions of both the women in the story. The ending was quiet unpredictable and unexpected and I thought Avril deserved that ending. And of course, Jade may have flaws but I found myself sympathizing with her more than with Avril. Overall, this was a brilliant thriller written by Daniel Hurst and really enjoyed this thriller. Worth 4.5 stars!

Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC. The review is based on my honest opinion only.

What kind of woman would swap two babies in the hospital shortly after their birth? What would cause her to do the things she does? Do they really benefit anyone ?
Avril and Jade have each given birth to a tiny, little boy. One baby cries all the time and the other is sweet. Why does one of them have a sudden, radical change in his personality? Is it selfishness or does it go deeper than that?
What a great read this is. The pages practically turn themselves. Daniel Hurst turns everyday situations into major plot twists. I just read The Husband and really liked it, and am enjoying The Baby Swap. Unhinged, I say!
The best part is that I don't want to take a break, so I stay put and fly through the pages and certainly reap the rewards.
Wow! This is definitely a psychological thriller with pathological twists and turns that are
unanticipated and exciting.
I am gobsmacked.

Thank you to the author and the publisher for providing me with an ARC of this book. All opinions are my own.

Jade is down on her luck and about to give birth as a single mum, but the woman who made her life misery is also giving birth in the bed next to her. But what if she can get revenge and it would be as simple as swapping babies?

This novel is split between multiple points of view, mainly through the main characters of Avril and Jade, with alternating chapters.

I struggled in places with this novel only because I didn't know who to trust or which character to like. But this shows the intensity of Hursts writing, always keeping the reader on their toes.

There were several areas that left me in suspense two twists I didn't see coming. I just can't get enough of Hurst's writing.

Another fantastic novel by this author who just keeps getting better and better.

This book had such a refreshing storyline—it pulled me in right away! Though, I have to admit, there were moments where it dragged a little, and I found myself wishing the pace would pick up. But the writing? Absolutely top-notch, as expected from Daniel. He just has a way of making even the slow moments feel immersive.

Told through the dual POVs of Jade and Avril, with alternating timelines (my absolute favorite style of narration!), the story unfolded in a way that kept me engaged. It was a quick read, easy to follow, and never too overwhelming. But the real winner for me? The epilogue. It tied everything together so perfectly. I had my suspicions about one of the major twists early on (yay for my detective skills!), but there were still surprises along the way. The twists were solid—maybe not the kind that make you drop the book in shock, but definitely enough to keep me flipping pages.

The Baby Swap by Daniel Hurst is a fantastic, fast-paced book that’s completely addictive.
I devoured it easily in one day and was racing to the end to see how it would all pan out. The pace was fast and the tension was palpable as I swiped every page, desperate to see what would happen next.
Hurst delivers multiple jaw-dropping twists, each more shocking than the last. Just when I thought I had it figured out, the story twisted in a direction I never saw coming. The pacing is electric, the suspense unbearable, and the final reveal? Absolutely mind-blowing.
Suspenseful, shocking, and completely addictive, this is Daniel Hurst at his very best.

I’m not sure how I feel about this book. It’s definitely twisty and shocking but some parts are unbelievable and far fetched.

I can see why people would really like the book but unfortunately, for me it felt average.

Thank you to Bookouture, Daniel Hurst, and NetGalley for the copy of The Baby Swap.

This was a very good read! The prologue had me hooked and I needed to find out what was happening and why. Didn’t have a clue of the twist the epilogue had, but really liked it!

This story is about two mothers Avril & Jade who have a sorted history. One wronged the other 7 years ago and the other takes her revenge by doing the unspeakable and swapping their babies when the opportunity arises when both women find themselves in the same room on the maturity floor. Neither of the characters are especially likable and both are flawed women. Even with that being the case I found myself flipping back and forth on taking a side and empathizing with them. I thought I had this all figured out.. then bam.. the ending sent me! Great thriller, quick easy read, short chapters ( which I love) daul POV! This was my first Daniel Hurst read and it definitely won't be my last. Thank you Bookouture and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this ARC!

This was my first ARC from NetGalley and it did not disappoint!
The way this story has been written is just fantastic with the 2 POV as well as taking you from present day to 7 years previous was just great. I was able to get the full picture of both Jade and avril. At first I really didn’t like avril but I became to warm to her and Jade I liked at the beginning but started to change my mind but really they both had a soft spot with me as their own experiences were so real!
Fantastic read and highly recommend will be reading more of Daniel Hurst.

The Baby Swap was an intense read, which hooked me from page one.

Two women, Avril and Jade give birth and are next to each other in the ward, the babies are swapped by one of them.
I thought the actual swapping of the baby was ingenious, with the little steps on how she did it however, I think that once you have your baby in your arms you stare at them so much you would know instantly if it wasn’t your baby.

I didn’t like either character, they were both as bad as each other and very childish and selfish for the ages they were meant to be. I did start feeling some sympathy for one of them towards the end.

The epilogue had me shaken!

Daniel Hurst is such a great author. He really knows how to capture his audience. I have read many of his books, and I have enjoyed them all.

4.5 Stars.
As someone who has read quite a few of Daniel Hurst's popcorn thrillers I can confidently say this was easily my favourite!
I was hooked from the prologue. I guess anything involving children is always high stakes for me and as the title suggests babies are swapped and the obvious question is why would anyone do that? As a parent myself I can't even imagine giving up my child so the concept is so shocking to me which is why the book was so gripping. Even though I didn't agree with the reasons as being good enough to warrant that I do have to say how much of a vile person Avril was. The 7 years earlier chapters were among some of the best it was car crash TV type reading. Love to hate what was going on there.
The half star deduction to make it a perfect 5 star for me came with the ending which fell a bit flat. In the same way as I didn't agree with the reason for the baby Swap is also did not agree with the extreme lengths of the ending, but that's just me.
A fantastic addictive read! Will be recommending this one a lot!
Many thanks as always to Bookouture who provided me a copy of this book via NetGalley for review. All opinions are my own.

The Baby Swap goes into the lives of two mothers, Avril and Jade, whose worlds couldn’t be more different. Avril leads a picture-perfect life, with a successful career, a loving husband, and the luxury of financial security. In contrast, Jade struggles financially and didn't plan to get pregnant. Their lives collide later in life as they deliver their babies on the same day and one of the mothers decides to swap their babies, as an act of revenge against the other. The plot takes readers on a fast-paced journey that keeps them hooked as the truth about the swap unravels. The narrative is full of suspense, with themes of jealousy, resentment, and motherhood coming to the forefront.
However, while the book is an easy, fast read, some aspects of the story feel less than believable. One of the most notable issues arises from a particular plot point where one of the mothers, despite harboring such deep resentment toward the other, doesn’t recognize her years later. This plot element seems far-fetched, especially given the level of spite involved.
While the twists and turns keep readers intrigued, some of the character decisions may leave you questioning the realism of certain moments. Despite this, it remains an engaging and entertaining read.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review. This book will be published on Feb 19, 2025.

What could possibly motivate a mother to switch her newborn baby with another's? The Baby Swap is an intriguing book that follows the story of two women who's lives are intertwined more than we initially think. The author keeps readers hooked with quick chapters and reveals that won't let you put the book down. Although promoted as a psychological thriller, the book falls more into the thriller genre.
