I’ve loved this WEBTOON ever since it first came out, and knowing that the author also helps with the layout for the ITGR print versions, knew that it would translate well to print. And yes, it did! Despite knowing how Camille’s story will turn out, I’m just as invested as I was years ago.

I ate this book up! I loved the art and the vibes. It felt dark and moody while still being hopeful and about self-discovery. I am so excited to read the next book! Keep em coming.

Muted is a beautifully illustrated, witchy tale full of magic, family secrets, and queer romance. Miranda Mundt’s artwork and storytelling pull you right into Camille’s world. The mix of mystery, emotion, and stunning artwork kept me hooked from start to finish.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!!

Super cute and fun graphic novel, lots of magic and a mysterious plot line. I loved the world-building and the art style was lovely. I loved the art and the sapphic polyamorous romance.

Ok, I think some of my students would actually love this book, but myself - who loves graphic novels, could get into the story. It had all of the elements, with the witchy, dark lore and mysterious backgrounds… It just felt like it was lacking. The artwork was ok, very similar to the show Teen Titans. Not a problem there. But the story was not grasping my attention with how they wrote and designed the characters and settings. I didn’t feel connected to the characters or grasp the overall vibe of the story. At times the story had a darker tone and then it would swing into comedic/wholesome Saturday Morning cartoon. I just couldn’t plant myself into the story. I wish it had picked a vibe and stuck with it. Not for me.

Okay, wow! I started this not knowing what exactly to expect, and around the half-way mark I thought I knew how this would go. But I was surprised! This comic is drawn in an easy-going smooth style that is a delight to read. Camille, a tragically orphaned girl, has grown up under her aunt's harsh stare and less-than loving practices. When young witch Camille has to perform a blood ritual to ensure her family's continued success, something goes wrong. This leads Camille onto a path where she will discover more and more about herself, and about the past too. Camille's story, despite it's supernatural elements, has a lot that many can relate to. I am looking forward to see what happens next...Special thanks to NetGalley for the ARC!

4.5 rounded up to 5 stars!

This was a great graphic novel with gorgeous art and lovable characters (at least most of them, anyway, lol). It was both a fun and emotional read as we get to learned more about Camille. Since it is the first Volume, it also sets out the base layer for volumes to come!

I loved the familiars and enjoyed being introduced to a variety of characters.

My only complaint about the book is the ending. It ended too abruptly, in my opinion, even though it was a really sweet scene that already portrayed some character growth and set up platonic and possibly romantic relationships for the next volume.

But I suppose I'll have to wait for the next one to come out and enjoy the novel for what it is:

A wonderful sapphic graphic novel

What an amazing and magical story!
I absolutely loved the art style of this graphic novel, and how the creator paid so much attention to the little details in every frame.
The plot of the story was very well thought out and beautifully portrayed with both the illustrations and the captions.
This was a fun, quick read, and i cannot wait to read volume 2.
Thank you to the netgalley and the publisher for the chance to read this graphic novel, all opinions are my own.

Thank you Ten Speed Graphic and NetGalley for letting me read and enjoy this graphic novel.

I can’t remember if when I requested this book it I knew it was sapphic, but I am so happy it was! I loved the kind of coming out. I’m enjoying the paranormal aspects of blood witches and plant witches and maybe more when we get more into the story. I like that they have familiars that are all types of creatures including fairies. I like that we keep learning about our main characters family and all the secrets they have keep from her, maybe on purpose or because she is blacking out her childhood due to trauma from the fire that killed her mother and twin. I’m still getting bad vibes from Matriarch Athalie because I’m pretty sure she started the fire to gain the power role in the family.
The artwork was amazing. I love all the details and the bold colours. I can’t wait to continue on in the series and see what we uncover. I’d recommend this one to everyone.

Thank you to NetGalley and Ten Speed Graphic for the ARC!

This was so good! I definitely was a little confused going into it, but I truly enjoyed this so much! It was such a breath of fresh air! This very much reminds me of dragon tea society!

I appreciated the characters, and I really enjoy seeing how Camille and Nyra develop! I feel really curious as to what happened to Camille’s family, and something tells me that Aunt Athaline has something to do with it!

I look forward to reading more!

4.5 stars – I am absolutely in love with everything that is this graphic novel!

Storywise I am completely on board. The story is set in a super interesting world, with heaps of potential for expanding and diving deeper, and I can’t wait. And while it hasn’t dealt with it much yet you can feel the setup for the more politically intricate themes. I’m fully loving the witchy vibes, and the way it has set up the magic system where different families possess different abilities, further creating super interesting dynamics. And the characters are so well rounded and compelling in different ways – I'm itching to learn more about each of them.

In general, the story does such a strong balancing act between the dark and light themes and moments throughout the volume. You feel the moments that are both eerie and sad, but also that provide hope and strength.

Also, I cannot not mention that the art is so gorgeous. Sometimes I have to just pause and stare some more at how beautiful it looks. I literally can’t even. I need the chapter pages made into bookmarks or something! I want to look at them all the time.

Thankfully the publisher kindly provided me with the next volume as well, so I can get straight into it!

I’m expecting 5 stars in this series’ future – it's still early so I’m sure we’re just gearing up for the really good stuff.

I'm really excited for this series after reading the first book. The world building is great between all the families. I'm excited to learn more about how the different families evolved ands can see a lot of opportunity for spinoffs. The story is a little dark but I could see high school me being into this all the way through adulthood. For folks interested in magical stories with lgbtqia2s+ characters should read.

First of all – I am a sucker for witchy tales and interesting magic systems! Muted delivered beautifully on both inside of the gorgeous artwork.

Volume one of Muted sets the tone for a murderous mystery and the backstory of grief for the protagonist, Camille. The story begins with Camille navigating family traditions and prejudices and being haunted by not only her past, but a magic that seems wildly out of her control.

I absolutely shivered with delight at the gothic artwork and panels depicting her grapples with the magic initiation ceremony. Plus, everything with her familiar Toben was absolutely precious!

Can’t wait to read more in volume 2 – this was easily a 5 star read!

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and Miranda Mundt for providing me with an ARC.

I originally read <i>Muted</i> week-by-week as it released on WebToon, so having the chance to revisit Volume 1 in one sitting was an absolute treat that did not disappoint.

The story is just as captivating as I remembered. The artwork is stunning, with soft watercolor textures that heighten the emotional depth of every scene. The illustrations brilliantly showcase the vibrant flora and the haunting allure of blood magic, all against the atmospheric backdrop of New Orleans. It’s visually rich, immersive, and the storytelling is just as strong as the art style.

Narratively, <i>Muted</i> is a perfect blend of dark, witchy themes and heartfelt character moments. Camille’s journey, woven with threads of anxiety, coming out, navigating strained family relationships and PTSD, is portrayed with care and authenticity. At the same time, the story offers moments of warmth and levity through adorable animal familiars, humor, and a strong sense of found family. The cast is refreshingly diverse, and the relationships feel layered and genuine.

If you loved <i>Lore Olympus</i> or crave slow-burn sapphic (and eventually poly!) romance wrapped in a gothic, magical setting, this graphic novel is an absolute must-read. <i>Muted</i> continues to stand as one of the crown jewels of the WebToon platform and now, in print, it’s even more special. I received a free copy and still bought a hard-copy, I just love it so much.

This book was provided to me for free in exchange for my honest review. Rating: 5/5

4.5 stars, rounded down

Was this purely a cover pick? Yes. I saw the red contrasting with the green *so beautifully* and just had to know what's inside.

I must say, I was not disappointed: the art is stunning, and *especially* the colors. There were multiple times when I just had to pause the story to take everything in, and I was very close to expressing my admiration out loud. I loved all the character models and how their colors blended or contrasted and were simply perfect. A 100 stars for that!

Having said that, I also think sometimes it felt as if the art was more important than the story, and to me it created some issues with the pacing. Some of the character introductions felt a bit long to a point when I was waiting for something significant to happen just to realize that almost the whole chapter was dedicated to showing off different poses and angles (or at least that's what it felt like). I liked the story overall and I can't wait for the next installment but if I were to rate the art and the plot separately, the latter would get a 3.5/5.

Overall highly recommend!

PS. I might have spoiled a part of the romance arc for myself but I'm not mad, just even more excited hehe

I actually got a sampler of this from ECCC and it was pitched to me as "southern sapphic swamp witches" and I was hooked. So, when I saw it was available on NetGalley I jumped right in.

The art is great and the story is compelling.

In this world there are multiple families that have magical abilities of different types. Camille, our main character, is a blood witch who's sister and mother tragically died when she was younger. She has been raised by her aunt, who seems pretty strict and borderline abusive. After a coming of age ritual goes terribly wrong, Camille is given the option to spend time near her old family home and begins to learn about herself.

For a first volume there was just enough character introduction, backstory, and tension. I was able to connect with Camille and feel for her as she deals with what is clearly PTSD from her aunt and the lost of her family. Mundt's style is incredibly expressive in terms of character expressions and the animal companions are absolutely adorable and convey so much to the reader. Each scene uses color palettes and tones to help you really get a sense of the place and the emotion. I don't say this often, but this is a story that so far I would love to see adapted into an animated series. I'm definitely looking forward to the next volume.

I loved this Webtoon when I read it back in the day, so to see it get its due in graphic novel form is so exciting. I love this book and the plot, the systems of magic and characters all feel so real and fleshed out. Super well done!
