The magic died for Juniper Green when her mom did, and everything since has been one disappointment after another. From a dead-in-the-water publishing career to losing her hit podcast in a backhanded deal, all roads lead to 32-year-old Juniper moving back in with her dad in a little mountain town known only for that one scene in The Meadow. Not all hope is lost, though, as she gets a chance to voice the leading lady in the audiodrama of The Meadow. She'll have to do it with the one guy in front of whom she can never keep her cool and who simultaneously broke her heart and dashed her dreams one night in college.
Just when I think I've had enough of down-on-their-luck, despite being talented leading ladies, here comes Schumacher and makes me like one. Juniper's situation is sadly super relatable, and the fact that her attitude hits the perfect midpoint between depressed and perkily optimistic is what made me like her. Her reactions to things feel realistic even when situations get romance novel unreal.
James is too perfect to be real, but he's also the perfect balance to Juniper, and I love how he supports all her quirks and wishes, even when it goes against what he wants. There's also the fact that the more you learn about his situation, the more you want him to find all the happiness with Juniper. Their relationship goes through some rocky moments, but there's magic in the air between them and that happy ending hits all the right spots.
You will walk away from this book believing that there possibly is a magical force out there waiting to push you in the right direction to find your happiness.
Delighted thanks to NetGalley and Del Rey for the sweetly romantic read!
