This excellent novel does not focus on the perpetrator of a really cruel crime but on the victim. Survivors guilt and the long way back to a normal life after such a trauma is the main issue and it's
described in a very relatable way.

This story fo!lows the non verbal recovery of sixteen year old Amanda after her best friend Sarah and herself are involved in a horrific attack, desperate to help the Dectectives locate Sarah Amanda has to learn to communicate in order to share the details of their horrific attack

This was an emotive read it stated off promising but then it just lost its momentum for me and became sluggish and repetitive and felt way to drawn out and lacked pace and drama. Initially

I sped through this one! It was hard to put down! There were moments that felt like too much of a stretch for me......scenarios that didn't seem plausible at times. I still enjoyed it though.

Wow! What a crazy ride this was. Thriller books usually don’t make me emotional, but this one did. What happened to Amanda and Sarah was horrific, but Amanda’s journey to healing was hopeful.

A trauma thriller that starts off well, with suspense and chills, then becomes a long process of recovery from the perspective of the survivor in rehabilitation and therapy. I can see how this can be a validating experience for trauma-survivors, but it was not the book for me. I was hoping for more suspense and thrills, but I could tell by the authors note that this was intended to represent the survivor perspective. Even so, sadly I found the middle very repetitive and slow, where I felt 50% could have been edited out, it was quite frustrating. The ending was sweet. The tone of the book also takes on a YA drama more than a thriller. Also be mindful of the trigger warning of sexual assault against minors.

It was nothing short of an excellent read.

It was surely not what I had expected from a thriller, which usually focuses more on the perpetrator, but I was pleasantly surprised. I would recommend reading the trigger warning list very carefully before starting, since the book had moments where it was extremely dark, but that did nothing but add to the story's impact.

The book was beautifully written, and the narration style made it more immersive. I could feel the characters' emotions: their pain, fears, frustration, and hope.

Being in Amanda's mind, as in the victim, and focusing on her healing journey was so powerful. There wasn't a book that had made me cry as much. Being with Amanda through the attack was scary, disturbing, and gut-wrenching. Being with her through her recovery was a mix of pain and hope. And being with her at the end was a reminder that there will always be light at the end of the tunnel, sunshine after the storm.

If you're interested in a story that focuses on the victim's trauma, their path of healing, and finding purpose in life beyond the survivor's guilt, this is the book for you. I strongly recommend it.

*Where No One Can Hear You* is a chilling, emotionally intense thriller that delves deep into the trauma of survival and the haunting silence that follows. Amanda’s struggle to piece together her broken memories while grappling with the loss of her best friend creates a tense, gripping atmosphere. With every page, the fear builds—not just from the physical threat, but from the terrifying realization that the most important truth might be locked away in the silence she can’t break.

I love the POV in this book. We are able to feel the hurt and pain that Amanda feels and yelling to find the answers she needs to solve this case. I am a big Thriller read and like always JE Rowney took. it. there. I devoured this and loved every minute!

I enjoyed this slow burn story. Readers should know a few things before diving into this book. It starts off with a pretty horrific crime. It is not gratuitous - the author gives only the details we really need to know. But it is difficult to read, perhaps even for a reader who isn't necessarily super sensitive. It is over pretty quickly and the story then follows Amanda's path to healing. Which brings me to the other thing the reader should know - this is not a thriller. It is a slow burn story about a teenage girl's trauma and her path to healing. It is ultimately hopeful, but there is a lot of trauma and grief along the way. I enjoyed it overall. 4 stars.

Where No One Can See You
J E Rowney
This book had me hooked right from the start, Amanda’s homelife was awful and heartbreaking while Sarah’s was uplifting and normal, making the two a perfect pairing of friends. The way they support each other only further cements the terror of the trauma that occurs and draws the reader to become emotionally attached in a devastating way. My personal reaction to Amanda’s turmoil following that trauma was visceral. I thought of her throughout my day even when not reading and had a hard time with the difficulty she had trying to reconstruct herself post trauma. This one will def evoke all kinds of feelings in most readers esp women. Reader know thyself, and consult any trigger warnings before beginning this one!

If you’re looking for a thriller to steal your breath, pages that fly, and breaks your heart all at once look no further!

Where No One Can Hear You is a gripping, atmospheric thriller that pulled me in right from the start. I loved the slow build of tension and the way the author created such an eerie, unsettling feeling throughout the story. Sophie’s fear and confusion felt so real, and I found myself needing to know what would happen next.

The twists were well done — just when I thought I had things figured out, the story would take another turn and keep me guessing. I really enjoyed how the suspense was layered with just enough mystery to keep the pages turning.

Where No One Can Hear You by J.E. Rowney started off slow for me, and I found Amanda’s character a bit frustrating at first. Her intense focus on herself made her seem self-centered, which made it hard to connect with her. However, as the story progressed, I began to understand her better. The focus on her healing process and the emotional complexity of her situation made her actions more relatable, even if they were still a bit irritating at times.

What I really appreciated about this book was how it showed not just Amanda, but everyone around her, trying to rebuild their lives after the trauma. It wasn’t just about her recovery but how the people in her life were affected and how they tried to move forward. Amanda’s struggle to heal while still honoring Sarah’s memory added emotional depth to the story, and it really pulled me in as I saw how the characters navigated the difficult process of rebuilding their lives in the aftermath of tragedy.

The pacing was slow at times, but once I got into Amanda’s journey, I was hooked. It’s a heartfelt and emotional read that explores the challenges of recovery, both for the person directly affected and the people who love them.

When Amanda and her friend Sarah take the long way home after detention one day, their lives are changed forever. Amanda is left for dead, throat cut and without her voice. She wakes up six weeks later in a hospital bed, only to find that Sarah is still missing.

This book is not your typical thriller, it is so much more. It is very rare that we read a novel that is purely from the perspective of the victim. The perspective that looks at the grief, the struggle, but the strength of surviving an ordeal.

With no voice, we see Amanda struggle to process her own thoughts with nothing but a whiteboard to assist her in giving evidence. Determined to find her friend, the novel follows her journey to overcome the removal of her voice, working to fix the damage caused, both physical and emotional. The book moves from finding Sarah, to finding Maggie (the name that Amanda was called during the act of the crime) and then to finally finding herself in her new normal. This book is brilliantly written, with subjects of mental health, sexual assault and continuing trauma being approached sensitively, but it is still distressing to read in parts.

As a fan of a the thriller novel, I thought that this was a fresh take, and really couldn't put this book down.

Why is no one talking about this book?!

Such a well-written and executed story with a purpose! Where No One Can Hear You is a terrifying perspective of a kidnapping/murder attempt from the perspective of a healing survivor. This story is more than just a thriller, it’s a fictionalized tale of the horror a victim lives through during and after a terrifying attack.

This author really drove home the fear Amanda and Sarah experiences with such detailed writing that I could feel their fear within myself. The pages read like a true crime, first hand experience in vivid detail. JE Rowney found a way to make the hospital stay a palpable hell of sterile, routine procedure that drags on and on- without boring the reader. The repetition of this and the way the story is slowed- same as the healing process, gave truth to this story that it would’ve otherwise lacked.

This is my first JE Rowney novel so I can’t say if they all read like a piece of literary art, but Where No One Can Hear You, certainly did. In an industry where quickly pumping out thriller after thriller leads to less detailed, less engaging and believable stories, JE Rowney took their time to create this masterpiece. Thank you NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for this ARC!

4/5 Stars!

"But for how long? Everyone leaves eventually. Even best friends. Even mothers. Even me."

I needed to revisit this book due to the topics discussed throughout the novel. If you are reading this one, please check the trigger warnings, conveniently located at the beginning of the book.

"Where No One Can Hear You" is a thriller that realistically portrays trauma and its impact on different individuals. It explores how trauma can manifest in the body and mind, including gaps in memory, intense emotions, guilt, and exhaustion that often follow a traumatic experience. The story follows a girl who struggles to heal from a traumatic event. Alongside her support system, she attempts to piece together her horrifying tale to save her best friend while also grappling with her own will to continue.

A challenging read for individuals with PTSD or those who have endured an abusive past, but it is exceptionally well done. I would recommend it to those seeking insight into the reality of sexual violence and its eternal grip on one's psyche.

Thank you to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for allowing me to read this ARC early. My review reflects only my opinion.

This book devastated me a little. I really like how the prospective was all about her and very little about the actual killer. It was raw and emotional. It felt like a genuine journey into her pain and healing.

Wow this novel reeled me in from the first page and I was hooked, I read this novel within a few days as I could not put it down.

We meet 16 year old friends Amanda and Sarah and they take a walk in the woods and are attacked and then Amanda wakes up in the hospital and she tries her best to find out what happened and why.

Where No One Can Hear You is a haunting read and will stay with the reader for many days following the end of the novel. The novel contains distressing content and we follow Amanda on her journey of recovery and hoping she can find some answers as to who did this heinous crime to 2 young teenage girls.

The author, J.E Rowney does an excellent job of character building and taking the reader on their journey.

Thanks to the author, Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me an ARC in exchange for this novel.

While the story for this one was highly intriguing, it just didn't work for me in terms of tone and pacing. It was a little too slow moving for me and I wanted just a little more of the thrills. Still a good raw read that explores the trauma of the kidnapping trope.
