The writing is strong overall, but I felt the characterization was uneven. Amanda, the main character, begins as someone so overlooked that even her own mother dismisses her. The school principal, for instance, refuses to investigate why Amanda and another girl were left alone during a gym class run in the woods. It stretched believability that a principal would act in such an unprofessional and negligent way. What could Amanda possibly have done to justify such disregard, especially at the risk of the principal’s own job? Amanda is portrayed as constantly mistreated and unfairly judged by everyone around her—to the point where it almost felt exaggerated, as though the world was conspiring against her.
I also struggled with the abrupt change in her mother’s behavior. She shifted from near-total neglect to unwavering, supportive devotion almost overnight, which felt hard to believe. I realize my reaction may go against the overwhelmingly positive reviews, but I do want to stress: this book contains some very triggering content for sensitive readers. For me, it lands at 3 out of 5 stars.

I gave this book 4 stars. It was well written and kept me coming back for more. This book is a psychological thriller. I am not familiar with this author but will be looking for more books in the future.

I really enjoyed this story!
I wasn't really sure what to expect going in - The start of the book seemed almost like it was going to be Young Adult, but then morphed into a thriller, which then morphed more into literary ficiton.
It was an intense exploration of strength and resilience in the face of extreme adversity, and about hardships bringing people together. Our main character Amanda was walking home from school with her best friend when they were both kidnapped. Without spoiling the story too much, the man attempts to take Amanda's life and she wakes up many weeks later in hospital, having to deal with the reprocussions.
A large part of the story is exploring Amanda's mindset - watching her move past this massive trauma, and learn how to function again after something so horrible happens to her.
I was drawn in by the mystery within the kidnapping, wanting to know what happened, but enjoyed the exploration of strength and how much someone can overcome. I loved the examination of relationships and people banding together in traumatic times, and was satistfied with the ending.

3.5 stars | I really thought my rating was going to be above 4 stars because the first 50% of this book had me HOOKED! It was intense and fast paced and I didn’t want to put it down. However, the last 50% started to slow down. Yes, it was focussed more around recovering from trauma but there were still a lot of missing pieces of the puzzle that we didn’t find out till the last chapter.
Definitely read the trigger warnings before reading as there are some heavy topics represented such as kidnapping, child loss, SA, life after trauma, etc.

Abduction thrillers somehow always disturb me quite a bit, especially when young children are involved. I almost didn't pick this up but I am so glad I did, because the author didn't just make this book engaging and interesting, she also made sure that nothing too disturbing is happening. This might not matter for everyone, but it does to me, As far as the story is concerned, it was gripping and intense, however, I did feel that the ending was a bit rushed. All in all, definitely a good thriller!

Thanks to the publishers and NetGalley for the ARC.
This is a book of survival and overcoming the hardest excitement imaginable.
I enjoyed reading this book with the characters I truly connected with. I especially loved the story of Joyce. She was here during but Siri rejected in the background. Hey story told in a way that touched my soul.

The overall premise of this book was interesting, but the execution did not hit. It felt drawn out and I really struggled wanting to pick up this book.

This story was tense but no major twists, I liked the fmc as she was well developed and she felt believable.

I loved the setting and the thriller vibes this book had. It's an enjoyable read and I believe it speaks to a big reading group.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this eARC. All opinons are my own.

I found this book to be an enjoyable read. The story kept me engaged from start to finish and had some moments that really stood out. Overall, it offered an entertaining reading experience.

Chilling, Claustrophobic, and Utterly Addictive!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/5 Stars
Where No One Can Hear You is a psychological thriller that grips you from the very first page and doesn’t let go. J. E. Rowney masterfully builds a tense, isolated atmosphere that made me feel like I was right there—trapped and desperate for answers. Amanda and Sarah’s fear is palpable, the twists are shocking, and the pacing is relentless.
What I loved most was how the narrative kept me guessing—every time I thought I had it figured out, Rowney threw in a clever twist that left me stunned. It’s both emotionally intense and psychologically sharp, making it one of the most memorable thrillers I’ve read this year.
If you’re a fan of thrillers that explore the darker corners of the human mind, this one is not to be missed.
Well done!

Amanda and Sarah find themselves in a terrifying situation; in the woods with a strange man. The unthinkable happens and Amanda wakes up six weeks later with a slab across her neck and little to no answers.
This psychological thriller is one of my favorites that I've read in a long time! It is suspenseful, terrifying, and heartbreaking all wrapped up in one. I flew through it needing to know Sarah's fate.
Thank you NetGalley for this eARC!

This book does not make easy reading, two young girls are attacked in the woods . Amanda is left for dead as her friend is sexually assaulted and her story is documented as she wakes up in intensive care 6 weeks later and through the following period in the hospital and rehabilitation and therapy. It provokes a lot of emotions as you read and as the police investigation progresses and although the crimes are not so graphically described, they are well described from Amanda's point of view so that you get a good understanding of what she has gone through and the continuing feelings that she is dealing with. Although it took me a little while to get into the book, it hooked me in and became a real page turner. Only complaint, I couldn't locate it geographically (country) , jt didn't feel British (though spelling is) ...
Thanks to Net Galley for a great read

I received a complimentary copy of this book "Where No One Can Hear You" and all opinions expressed are my own. This book started off good but then fell flat for me. I know it was more about Amanda and her struggles to get better and maybe it was too much about that. I was waiting for something more suspenseful.

I loved this book and the ending was perfection! Amanda and Sarah are both young teenage girls, best friends, who are kidnapped on their way home from school! They're tortured and we know from the very beginning that Amanda has escaped but is seriously wounded! Does anyone find her? Does she survive? Does she get help in time to save anyone else? These are the important questions that are answered the closer you get to the conclusion. Amanda is not really likeable in the first chapters, mostly due to her severe insecurities but gets stronger as the tale goes further. I was very happy with the conclusion and the realistic teenage voices and emotions! After teaching teenagers for many years, I'd say that these are typical responses throughout the story to events that are happening and would encourage anyone who enjoys thrillers to definitely buy this book NOTE: I've reviewed this on Amazon so far and intend to review it on Goodreads and Bookbub also!

I really loved this original thriller. While I struggled to appreciate Amanda at the beginning of the novel, her development, her story, her strength touched me and I ended up really liking her. The story is exactly well written, gripping, well constructed, and I really liked the psychological aspect. A very, very good read!

This wasn't really my vibe. I skimmed parts and other parts just dragged a bit too much for me. I imagine it was written to be dark and atmospheric whilst still being raw and a bit pushing the boundaries but I just like my fiction a lot more lighthearted and less traumatic lol. It was a decent enough read but it just felt too serious rather than a fun wee fiction to escape the brutalities of real life. That's purely my personal preference though and in no way a reflection of tbe book itsself. It's very well written, it captures that claustrophobic and tension filled atmosphere well and doesn't sugar coat anything. I'm just more of a bubble gum fiction kinda girl

The book started off with great intensity, and I wanted more of a plot twist, but it never came. Felt more like therapy or counseling. Different style and direction which works for the book but not for me. Almost didn't finish because it was repetitive and drawn out.

This book had me hooked! Not sure where I wanted the ending to go, but I was anticipating a big plot twist and it just never came. Some parts were hard to read, so I did have to skim through some of it especially during the assault. This reminded me of an episode of law and order svu!

I liked the story a lot and this was a good read. Usually this type of books are a quick read for me, but this seemed to go slower than typically. I loved that the book didn’t solve every single issue/question and the events sounded realistic. Police does take kid’s complaints as too active imagination, healing after trauma is not easy and quick, etc. However, I skipped some parts, because there were too many elaborate descriptions, too much of main character’s debating/thinking… I understand why the author wrote the book the way it is, but for me some parts were too dragged out and unnecessary. I also had a bit of an issue with the beginning of the and the impression I got about the mother - absent, not caring, not loving, but that was not true (even from the main character’s point of view, it just seemed too negative). That being said, I can find something not logical/too dragged out/imperfect in most books, but my overall experience was really good and I enjoyed my time spent with this book.
