Rowan Midwinter is a witch who's sworn off magic because she's afraid of what she's capable of. She's so against magic that she's avoided her hometown, family, and coven for years. Until she's guilted into returning for the holiday season, and she runs into the son of the man threatening to take everything from her family and town. Gavin McCreery has made magic happen whenever he's around Rowan ever since they were kids, but there's something about him now that makes her feel like she needs to face her magic and the past if she wants to have a future.
It's a very fun read that's full of super sweet magical moments and tons of small-town charm. Gavin is a great male lead because he's a balance to Rowan's whirlwind energy, always looking at what she's doing in a positive light. Rowan and the rest of the Midwinter family are an intriguing set of characters that I really wish we had gotten a bit more time to explore. They all have a different focus to their magic and distinct personalities, so the tone shifts depending on who she's interacting with, which made for a more dynamic story in the moments when the romance wasn't at the forefront.
Overall, it was an entertaining holiday tale outside of the norm for the seasonal romances that I truly enjoyed.
Very happy thanks to NetGalley and Dutton for the magically sweet read!
