Rhys McGowan has everything he ever wanted: the power of being High Priest of Boston's premiere Secret Society and the love of his wife and boyfriend, who happen to get along beautifully. But a grizzly public ritual that no one wants to take credit for scares the city and puts the occult community into a tizzy, Rhys' tendency to take everything on himself will put it all in danger.

Gibson has done it again, giving us a study in relationships and choices, this time, with the added bonus of more characters to interact with and a plot that twists and turns with emotion and hidden agendas. There is a lot going on in the story, from overextending demon-summonings to a threat on the relationship established in book 1. It's one thing after another happening, yet there is always time to explore the emotions each situation calls for. The balance of keeping the suspense taught while still giving the relationships time to breathe is a big part of why I enjoyed this so much.

I do recommend reading book 1 before this one, mainly because it sets up the throuple and how they relate to each other plays a big part in this book.

Delighted thanks to NetGalley and Angry Robot for the excellent read!
