ARC Review
Overall rating: 2

If you were to ask me is this a good book, I would say no. BUT somehow, I kept flipping the pages and all of a sudden, the book was over. So I can’t necessarily say I enjoyed my time reading this, but it was weirdly addicting and I was kind of intrigued to see what would happen next.

Now I know this was indie published before, but this review is based on the arc of the traditionally published version. I previous read Blood of Hercules by this author, so I kind of had an idea of what her writing style would be like, but you could definitely tell this was one of her first books. The pacing was all over the place and it felt like we were spending no time in any scene, but then we would spend pages describing what the MMC’s looked like. There was also way too much modern language for me personally. It really took me out of the book and honestly gave me the ick. Also in reference to the writing, the word “numb” was used so many times, it was starting to drive me up the wall. It felt like the author didn’t trust the reader to understand what was going on in any scene, so she would reiterate the same thing like three times over.

I despised every single main character in this book. None of them had any redeeming qualities whatsoever. They were all super surface level with barely any depth, and their single descriptor was how big or small they were in comparison to each other. I know that that specific trope in books is quite popular, but there is no way the length of the MMC's hand is as wide as our FMC’s back. It simply doesn’t add up. The FMC was always trying to act like a super badass, but she just came off as annoying and borderline insufferable.

The only reason this book wasn’t a 1 star is because I was weirdly addicting to it and it read INCREDIBLY fast. If I had to describe it in one sentence: it was kind of a dumpster fire, but I couldn’t look away. Will I be continuing this series, maybe? Although I’m unsure as to why.

Thank you so much to Netgalley, the author, and publisher for an early copy of the book in exchange for my honest review!

I really enjoyed the power of a female Alpha as well as the dark bully theme. While there is plenty of spice, it's a very slow burn for the FMC and with the ending on such a cliffhanger I am going to need to read the next book to manage my feelings!

"Psycho Shifters" by Jasmine Mas is a paranormal romance novel, the second in the "Future Proof" series. The story delves into the lives of shifters grappling with mental health issues, offering a unique twist on the genre. I appreciate Mas's exploration of darker themes and her engaging characters. However, the intensity of the subject matter might not be for everyone. Overall, it's a well-received book that stands out for its distinctive plot and thoughtful approach to sensitive topics.

I read this when it first released in 2021 but rereading it again was such a joy!

This story and its characters are so unique and the world is entirely different. The world building is something that, because it’s so original, is hard to grasp at times but the characters and the plot are so engaging that it makes up for it. I can’t wait to own the new edition!

3.5 on StoryGraph

All these characters just need to have a conversation and 75% of the conflict in this novel would be resolved.

I found the world in this book interesting. The take on shifters and fae was interesting and the magic system was intriguing. This book also is super easy to read. It only took a day to fly through and things moved along quickly to keep my interest.

Now each of the characters are interesting by themselves. They all have sad and complex storylines but UGH they are all just terrible to each other! (Except Jax and Arenthey can stay.) The name of the book is Psycho Shifters though, so I guess you get what’s on the tin, these people are psycho. I was just hoping for some connections to be built instead of everyone running through the same circular arguments the entire book as to why no one tells each other what’s going on.

There’s a lot of jumping around in this book too. Things felt a bit jumbled and skipped over at times. I found myself flipping back to reread passages to try and remember the sequence of how things happened. It helped move the book along quickly but sacrificed clarity at times.

The world is interesting, the premise neat, but man I wanted more from these characters and their relationships!

WHAT!? WHAT?!

I am completely and utterly obsessed, and I’ll never be the same again.

This was everything. It felt like watching reality tv but with shifters and in a fantasy world. If you’re a fan of the Bonds That Tie series, you’ll eat this up.

I literally couldn’t put this book down. It pulled me out of a reading slump in the very first sentence, and I became addicted. When I wasn’t reading it, I was thinking about it. I’m finished and I’m still thinking about it.

The tension between the fmc and three mmcs is absolutely delicious. I was dying for something to happen, and now I’m dying for more.

Details: first person pov, multi pov (1.5/5 spice)

I’m buying this entire series immediately. I’m going to go stare at the wall for a while thinking about that cliffhanger.

Thank you so so much to Harlequin Trade Publishing and NetGalley for an ARC of this book. All opinions are honest.

It's been a minute since I have read a book this fast! It was completely addicting and I could not put it down.

Like Blood of Hercules, I love how Mas incorporates humor into wild and depressing situations. Sadie's thoughts are hilarious and her interactions with the guys are even funnier.
And... there was one twist I really didn't see coming this time.

I'm not always the biggest fan of bully romances but it works in this scenario and I'll be diving into the next book immediately.

Thank you to Canary Street Press/Harlequin Trade Publishing for the eARC in exchange for my honest review, to celebrate the release of Psycho Shifters.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Dark, twisted, and addictive.

Psycho Shifters by Jasmine Mas is not your average paranormal romance—it’s sharp-edged, emotionally raw, and packed with characters that feel like they could leap off the page (and maybe tear your throat out in the process).

One of the biggest strengths of this book is the character development, especially when it comes to the heroine. She starts off guarded and rightfully skeptical of the dangerous new world she's been dragged into, but over the course of the story, we see her strength evolve—not in a cliched "strong female lead" way, but through layered vulnerability, resilience, and grit. Watching her stand her ground with the Psycho Pack, who are volatile, intense, and often morally grey, makes for an incredibly engaging arc.

Each member of the Psycho Pack is distinct and deeply flawed, and while some initially come off as irredeemable, Mas does a great job peeling back layers to show trauma, loyalty, and complex emotional dynamics beneath all the growling and chaos. Their interactions are messy, sometimes toxic, but undeniably compelling. No one is safe from emotional unraveling here—and that’s part of what makes it so fun to read.

Why not five stars? A few moments felt slightly rushed, and I wished for more background on certain character choices that would have added more emotional weight. But overall, Psycho Shifters is an intense, character-driven read that delivers on dark romance, found-family vibes, and emotional evolution.

Highly recommend for fans of RH/paranormal romance who like it gritty, dramatic, and unpredictable.

Psycho Shifters by Jasmine Mas was a delightfully weird and surprisingly captivating dive into the omegaverse/shifterverse genre. As a newcomer to this world, I found myself quickly drawn into its unique premise, even if it's a bit out there.

The story follows a heroine who initially believes she's a "null," only to discover she's actually an Alpha—a revelation she struggles to accept. While emotionally strong, she's physically unprepared for this new reality. Her journey takes her to a training facility with other shifters, including three intriguing male Alpha shifters who begin to capture her attention while they are complete assholes to her. The book cleverly weaves in perspectives from these three male leads, offering glimpses into their thoughts alongside the heroine's dominant POV.

One of the standout elements for me was the world-building of the omegaverse itself. It's fascinating and well-developed, and I enjoyed exploring its intricacies through the heroine's eyes. The narrative also features a truly excellent twist near the end that I absolutely did not see coming, brilliantly setting the stage for future installments in the series.

While the plot is engaging and the pace is fast, making it an easy and fun read, it's not without its minor flaws. I did notice some repetitive writing in describing details, which occasionally pulled me out of the story. The dynamic between the heroine and her potential mates is a compelling mix of enemies-to-lovers and why choose, though this aspect feels like it's still blossoming, with current miscommunication and secrets adding tension.

Despite its eccentricities and a few stylistic quirks, Psycho Shifters offers a fresh take on shifter romance. It's an intriguing, fast-paced read that provides an entertaining escape without being overly heavy. I genuinely enjoyed this first foray into Jasmine Mas's work and will very likely be reading the entire series to see where Brielle's journey takes her next.

Haaaaa thank you NetGalley for this book, and the publisher, in exchange for an honest review.

I don't think I'm the intended audience for this, and also, I think I didn't fully know what I was getting into. I don't know that this is my genre or my vibe, but I definitely enjoyed this more than I thought I would have at the beginning of this journey. This was wild.

It's erotica, which I guess I didn't realize when I started, but like, it's good. It is kind of dumb, for sure, and initially I was like, what the heck is happening here, but it's also funny so I stuck it out. The premise is interesting, although the main character is a bit of a Mary Jane, and the writing is pretty damn clever, so that kept me going.
And yes, it's kind of ridiculous, but it takes you right up to the edge of 'this is too wild I think I'm out' and then brings it back. There are monsters and action and a great deal of really goofy sex and I just enjoyed it more than I expected?

I don't know that this is my genre, and I don't know that I'd keep reading this series or this style of book, but I did find this one amusing.

In classic Jasmine Mas fashion, we get a fierce FMC who’s been through it but keeps showing up for herself. Add in the broody, hot alphas who refuse to admit they’re into her, and the sexual tension is off the charts. That twist and cliffhanger at the end? I was full-on screaming!!!! I need book 2 ASAP!

3.5 ⭐️ Guilty Pleasure Alert 🚨

Unparalleled prose, this book was not. However, it was fun, easy, and filled with just the right amount of Alphaholes and snark. SUCH a good time, and the easiest, most lighthearted read. The worldbuilding was fun, the twists predictable, but a good time.

Love that we have some sword-crossing and possessive Alpha vibes.

I wasn't sure whether to laugh, cringe, or keep devouring it – so I did a little of them all. Low expectations = high reward with this one and honestly, not mad about it.

The slow burn on the road to Shifter Reverse Harem ABSOLUTELY has me reading the next one.

I didn't think I'd love a Jasmine Mas books more than Blood of Heracles but THIS was AMAZING! Jasmine has a way with creating a world that pulls you in and characters that are so lovable!

Welp I read this in one sitting. It's not a short book either. I literally couldn't put it down. It's face paced and the characters are hilarious, sometimes without meaning to be. It's like a shaken up bottle of coke being opened. It's absolute chaos and I loved every second of it. The name says it all. Everyone is a little bonkers and it was truly a breath of fresh air. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series. I'm giving it five stars because of the vibes.

Psycho Shifters was the closest I’ve read to the Twisted Sisters yet—from the bully romance setup that harkened to Zodiac Academy, to the relationship dynamics of Ruthless Boys—and was exactly the fun, dynamic read I’ve been missing since Tory & Darcy’s story ended.

Above all—which I’ve found so rare in fantasy, outside of Peckham & Valenti—this book was funny. The humor here made this infinitely more readable and enjoyable, and I audibly cackled several times throughout. Is it the best writing ever? No. But it doesn’t need to be, to be thoroughly enjoyable and devourable.

Sadie is giving everything I want in a FMC—badass, take no shit energy with the kind of wit that made clapbacks land hard. It’s alpha energy in every way and works incredibly well here. I loved her interactions with the boys and am excited to see where we’re going in the next book.

It’s hard to pick a favorite of the MMCs here… which I suppose is the point of a Why Choose? In general, they had me feral and laughing and thirsting—particularly at every possessive Alphahole jealous reaction.

Jasmine Mas’s world here isn’t complex, but it isn’t trying to be, and it isn’t boring either. The shifter dynamics were interesting and the twist on an “Omegaverse” political structure worked well.

TLDR; Ate this one up. Excited to dig into the rest of this series! This has also made an excellent case for why I need to finally bump Blood of Hercules up my TBR.

Thank you Harlequin Trade Publishing, NetGalley and Jasmin Mas for the ARC of Psycho Shifters!

This is a fast paced, dark, but humorous, why choose shifter romance. Jasmins writing really sucks you in. It’s like her words compel you to keep reading. I call it the “one more chapter” spell and this book is enchanted with it.

We get just the right amount of world building to have a bigger understanding of the turmoil between the shifters and fae but not so much that is bogs the story down. This book is spent focusing a lot of character building and the budding alpha relationships.

We start off the story with Sadie, our strong, speak her own mind FMC. She grew up an indentured servant to an abusive man but soon finds she’s an alpha shifter. And here is where everything changes. She’s thrown into a world of war with 3 alpha male shifters as her colleagues. Each of the well toned, muscular shifter men have a unique personality and complement each other and our FMC. Together, the chemistry sizzles!

I loved the unique shifter qualities and forms that are shown. We don’t have a typical animal creature but rather a ginormous bear, a half devil ram creature and a man who shifts into a serpentine form with shadow snacks. Did you hear me?! SHADOW SNAKES!

Why choose shifters are my love language and this book checked all my boxes. It’s more of a slow burn, there is an “I loath you” to love you vibe, it has forced proximity and the spice is spicing.

I definitely recommend this book and can’t wait to read the next one!

What would I say if someone asked me if I liked this book? I would say that it’s a fun time, but don’t go into it expecting a literary marvel. It’s just a joyride, which I like so 3 stars.

This book is straight-up chaos—i loved every second of it. Psycho Shifters throws you into a dark, twisted world full of unhinged shifters and one badass FMC who’s not here to play nice.

The guys are intense, obsessed, and kind of nuts, but somehow you still end up rooting for them. There’s drama, danger, spice, and serious enemies-to-lovers vibes. It’s fast, it’s messy, and super addictive.

If you’re into reverse harem with dark vibes and don’t mind things getting a little crazy, you’ll eat this up. Just don’t expect anything soft or fluffy—this book is all bite.

10 stars! This sets the standard for dark, extreme, amd totally addictive shifter romance, with a kickass FMC and very diverse RH. Nothing compares to this one. You will want to read it again as soon as you finish the last page and sit there stunned, it is that good.
