Sage Collins left a data analyst job that was killing her soul to write a book, which happened to do so well that she gets invited to Comic Con in New York. After she meets a cute, but irritating guy on the plane, someone takes a photo of them leaving the airport at the same time. No big deal, except the guy is Theo Sharpe, a breakout actor on the cusp of fame, and the internet has decided they're dating and Sage is using him to get ahead in her writing career. Now, Sage has to deal with writer's block, her parents' disappointment/lack of understanding about her career, and trying to forget the charming man she felt a spark with but can't imagine being with. Cue her escaping to Scotland for a change of pace to help her write the much-anticipated sequel, and having fate have her run into Theo once again.
It's a super sweet story of two slightly broken people finding each other and it inspiring them to work on themselves, not for the relationship, but because they've found the courage to face the things they've been running from. Both Sage and Theo have their flaws, yet being together helps them live with them. It's really sweet to see them both work hard to make the other one happy, even as they're hiding their own hurt.
Sage also has great friends, and I kind of want to read their stories too, because Dramis takes the time to develop even those characters who are only there for support. You really do get a feeling that life is happening outside of the pages, which might make for some fun reads.
Overall, it was an entertaining, romantic, and memorable read that left me full of happy endorphins.
Delighted thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Griffin for the fantastic read!
