I think that it's really awesome to take a classic and turn it into a manga. My biggest issue is that it's hard to read on a tablet/phone. Since they are read back to front, you have to scroll all the way to the bottom to start the book. Also the page breaks are not very easy to see so sometimes you can not tell what page you are on.
Orphan Pip becomes a wealthy man despite his upbringing. The problem is that he deserts his friends and become truly arrogant. He's story is very relatable to kids. I like how the writers decided to leave the ending open instead of picking one of the two wtittens endings to allow everyone to think about what it could be.

Manga Classics: Great Expectations

Another great volume of comic book classics. This is a great way to introduce teenagers and older children to literary classics.Yes, it may not be as complete as the whole book.
Somebody Recommended as a gift for someone else or for yourself (the picture is beautiful), but be careful of the sweet and sour ending. Manga Classics is a great addition to any collection. Non-manga graphic novel retellings can be very successful, but comic book classics are more consistent in artwork and quality. High expectations are no exception. I always seek out all new manga classics released in my collection to help my ailing readers! Pip is an orphaned boy who is being raised by his older sister and blacksmith husband. He helps escaped prisoners by giving them files and food. He occasionally visits an elderly woman named Miss Havisham and is in love with her adopted daughter Estella. Pip becomes an apprentice blacksmith, and four years later a mysterious benefactor (whom he believes is Miss Havisham) buys his contract and sends him off to be trained as a gentleman. He continued to visit Miss Havisham occasionally over the years. He still loves Estella. Pip eventually discovers that his benefactor is actually the prisoner he helped. The prisoner is also Estella's biological father. Pip tries to help his benefactor escape her pursuit, but fails when her enemies reveal her, her benefactor died before her execution date. Years later, Pip visits Miss Havisham's abandoned house and sees Estella again. They part as friends.

I really hat great expectations for this one (see what I did there?^^) and Manga Classic didn't let me down! I must say, I didn't really like the story, but that is another thing, but I loved the art in this one a lot (no one is surprised by this I guess?). Manga Classics just always bring me so much joy to read and admire the character designs and everything. All the little details are just so pretty, I can't say that I would ever not like the drawing style of Manga Classics. Thank you so much for this review copy!

👐🏼 So good that it brought back my hate on Estella. Seriously, Pip?!

My thoughts…
Jazz Hands 👐🏼 I’m a huge fan of Manga Classics now! And the above classics were familiar to me but yet, reading them in this format gave me new thoughts and feelings. The illustrations were incredible that brought characters I’ve met before even more alive. If you’re not use to manga comics, reading back to front, will need getting used tobut it’s not a big deal. If you’ve been meaning to read classics, these are great introductions to them. I want to start collecting them now!

I think that the manga format works well for this terribly tragic novel. As I read the book, I remembered why I did not really like the novel when I had to read it as a sophomore in high school. Again, I do appreciate the manga adaptation.

Gorgeous rendition of a classic. Do I have multiple editions of the same story? Yes. But I did I have a manga version? No.

We all know the storyline at this point. But this art style is perfect for the story and they have all my favorite lines! Great job!

I have a love/hate relationship with classics - books, movies games, etc. Some age well, some like curdled milk. However, having a manga adaption of classics brings them new life. Highly recommend to anyone who feels the same!

Magna is hard enough to read backwards, but it’s even harder on an e book. The format made it difficult to understand the story as an ebook. The story itself was good, but I think magna needs to be in paper format.

I liked the art of this and how the characters were easy to tell apart.  It gave me a good idea of the storyline while making it a much faster read.  The storyline wasn't my favourite, but I am glad that I will be able to understand the reference to Great Expectations in The Outsiders now.  The manga style was the real star of this adaptation.

I enjoy reading the occasional classic story but sometimes they can be a challenge be it their use of language or style of writing. Having these classic stories told via Manga makes them so much more accessible. We can appreciate the classic and well loved stories in a new and interesting format. I would highly recommend Great expectations in particular. I really enjoyed the characters - they were all very original and interesting. It also tackles some of the issues of the day such as social class and how people of different backgrounds were treated. a very good intro to this story - I think I may have to rad the original text now!

Another great manga classics volume, this is a great way to introduce teens and older children to the literature classics, yes I know they cant possibly be as complete as the whole book, but it sure gives a tease and helps us live the story.
Highly recommend this as a present to someone or even as a self gift (the drawings are gorgeous), beware of the bitter sweet ending.

Thank you NetGalley for the free ARC, I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Manga classics are a great way to revisit classic stories in a new format. Great Expectations was always one that was difficult for me to get into but in this format, it was a breeze. I tried to read it twice in high school and eventually succeeded if only by audiobook. I was surprised to find out that there were actually 2 endings published for this novel originally.

The art is definitely cute. I just hope that it was much more longer than what it is and have been much elaborated in it's plot.

There is something a bit jarring about seeing a classic story like this in a Manga format, but it's also a wonderful way to connect this story to reluctant readers, or just people who want to read it the story with a fun new visual element to it. I can't be mad at something that gets kids reading.

This manga classics are my thing.

Normally, I will skip this classics, but this way to tell the stories are really friendly with the reader, so, thank you.

I think that the publisher achieve the objetive of "introduce these classic stories to a new reader who may then go back to read the original texts". I'm buying a copie of Great Expectations. Congrats.

Thanks for the arc. It was amazing.

This retelling is a great introduction or retelling of the classic by Charles Dickens. Boiled down to its essential elements, readers learn the story of Pip through modern language and visuals rather than 19th century British English. The Japanese manga format that reads back to front and right panel to left is a fun twist for readers of English.

Manga Classics are such an amazing addition to any collection. Non-manga graphic novel retellings can be very hit or miss, but Manga Classics are great for their consistency in artwork and quality. Great Expectations is no exception. I will always request each new Manga Classic released in my collection to help struggling readers!

I love this artwork, so clean and pretty to look at. Having read the original novel in high school and hating it, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I greatly enjoyed the manga adaptation. The style was approachable and engaging, definitely something my students will like.

Great Expectations by Charles Dickens is beautifully illustrated. Our library has a few Manga Classics on our shelves, and this one will be added to the collection as well.
