I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. This was such a good book! I loved the storyline of trying to figure out what really happened to Luna and who Grant’s new lady is. I was constantly trying to figure things out as I read to see if I would be right. An amazing plot, this book was a little domestic drama, buried secrets from the past, and a crime/mystery.

Money, secrets, and betrayals collide and combust in Lisa Kusel's taut and emotionally charged Long Way Down. This suspense novel delivers more metaphorical explosions than the Cooper family quarry at the center of their fortunes and misfortunes.
Reading this tale is like trying to solve a Rubik's Cube—just when you've got one side figured out, everything shifts and you need to rethink it all. I love a book that keeps me guessing throughout and this one does just that!
This story explores the ripple effect of greed, lust, bad decisions and how far characters will go to protect themselves. Each chapter reveals another twist, peeling back the rotting layers of this wealthy family's problems to expose all that festers just below the surface.
The ending? Chef’s kiss!
I'm rooting for a follow-up featuring Detective Robyn Torres, who can quote Walt Whitman while solving crimes. Can't wait to see what Kusel, author of the deliciously unique and provocative The Widow on Dwyer Court, cooks up next!

This book is filled with lies and secrets. There are so many twists I did not see coming. While some of the characters are not likeable that makes the story even better because you want justice served. I really could not put this book down because I needed to know what was going to happen next. Thank you to Crooked Lane Books for my copy. I look forward to more books by the author!

This book sucked me in from the first few lines. I am not sure what made me so intent on finding out what really happened but my need to find out made it a fast read. Many of the characters were jerks, which as a reader often makes me disinterested in what happened, but there was enough humanity in the characters to make me care. After reading this book I wonder if the author's social circle is filled with people who are disingenuous and narcissistic. I will be recommending this book to patrons of my library. Thank you Crooked Lane Books for the advanced copy of this book on Net Galley. #LongWayDown #NetGalley #LibrarianReview

I really don't have much to say about this book because I found it to be just okay.
I didn't find the characters very interesting or that story to be very compelling.
The characters were a bit flat and stereotypical of the genre, and maybe that was on purpose, maybe that was a commentary on something or was supposed to help make a point, but it just read as being flat and not very fleshed out. I really am such a character-driven reader, I need the characters to feel real and to have depth. I love to love characters and want to root for them and learn more about them, but I really couldn't do that much here at all.
I also found the pacing of the story itself to be quite slow. And that makes me lose interest often. I could see the potential of the story and what it was going for, but it wasn't fast-paced enough to grab and hold my attention . I want to get incredibly invested in thrillers and I just couldn't with this one.
This is a super quick read, it is rather short, so I can see people picking this up for a nice little spooky read when they don't have a lot of time to read (or if longer books are intimidating), but it just wasn't right for me. A solid 3/5.
This is all just about personal preference, so I'm sure someone else will absolutely love this book. Sorry that it wasn't me.
Thanks to NetGalley for the e-ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review! My Goodread review is up and my TikTok (Zoe_Lipman) review will be up at the end of the month with my monthly reading wrap-up.

Deni’s dreams are shattered when her fiance and his wealthy parents are killed in a plane crash. She decides to seek comfort from his brother, Cal, but Cal has another woman in tow when he arrives at the family home. An unreliable narrator, jealousy and a nasty family secret made this an engaging read
