SO many thanks to NetGalley and St. Martins for the opportunity to read Stolen in Death by J. D. Robb. I will never get tired of this series. Reading the series in order could easily be a master class for writers in character development, not just for Eve and Roarke, but for supporting characters as well.

This mystery with stolen treasures brings Roark’s past deeds into light. The dynamics when Roark and Eve work together are brilliant. It was a good mystery but the characters make the books a continued pleasure to read.

This is not the first Robb book I have read. They have become predictable. Not the mystery solution but the rest.. idyllic relationship of the two main characters, lavish lifestyle, beyond lavish, and after several novels boring. This last one is centered on such incredible rich characters and their lifestyles I almost did not make it to the end. I won’t be reading another. .

First of all, I still can’t believe I was lucky enough to get the e-ARC of Stolen In Death! I was super stoked to read it. As always, the futuristic world-building of the In Death series just bowls me away. The technology, the futuristic info—it’s all so clever and seamless. 62 books in and it still fascinates me.
I loved the opening of Stolen In Death and the story was a bit slow at first but I had no idea I was in for a long-awaited conclusion—a very satisfactory one. I was also happy that my gut was right about the killer and that I got a vibe about what was coming. J.D. Robb built up this new case in such a way, giving us die-hard fans a gift. Longtime fans who remember the previous books are in for a treat and will totally understand the satisfaction I’m getting out of this.
I wished though, that there were some additional scenes added in—like an insightful convo between Eve and Peabody, and between Roarke and Summerset to address the elephant in the room. That some of the characters from before would have mentioned something as it felt odd no one did, like say, Nadine, when the plot twist was revealed. I don’t want to say anymore without giving away any spoilers but I believe these additional scenes would have added value and turned the book into a 5-star.
Overall, Stolen In Death was way better than the last book and I was glad to see some of my favorite characters. I am definitely excited to re-read the book again when it is released on Feb 03 2026.

Eve and Roarke are all dressed up for a charity ball. They get through most of the dinner before she’s called to a murder scene. Probably the first time Eve has been to a murder scene in a ball gown. The victim is dead and has a grieving family and no one can figure out who killed him. Eve and her team and Roarke are working very hard to find out what happened. A great mystery!
