I am typically such a fan of Katharine McGee's work, especially her American Royals series, so I had such high hopes for this duet. Unfortunately for me, this one fell a little short. I'm not sure if it's because these characters are truly rooted in history so she had less leeway with the "fiction" aspects, but I found this one less entertaining and just a slog to get through at times. It was still enjoyable, but I didn't love most of the characters and felt like there was too much going on and lot thrown in just for the shock value. For what it's worth, I felt the same way about the first novel in this duet so I should've managed my own expectations better, but I think this one wasn't for me. At times, felt like she wasn't sure how to wrap up - maybe could've been better developed had she not limited herself to just two books.

The sequel to Katharine McGee's A Queen's Game, this book was wonderful from start to finish. It brings back such nostalgia from growing up reading The Princess Diaries, and I absolutely love the way that McGee uses historical imagination with a firm foundation in actual events to tell the story of the romances of some of Queen Victoria's grandchildren. McGee transports readers to the 19th century and the fascinating social atmosphere of the royal court, and I found myself yearning to read just one more chapter each time I picked up the book since it switches between different perspectives of characters. Overall, a great YA historical fiction that weaves in romance. 4.5 stars!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to read and review this ARC.

I was excited to read this book, the sequel in a historical fiction, YA-ish/new adult duology. This book continues the story of three royal women in the late 1800s who were all prospective brides for Prince Eddy, the heir to the British throne and Queen Victoria's grandson. One loves him but hides a secret past, one is desperate to escape her family of origin, and one is in love with Eddy's cousin.

I love learning about British royalty - they're just like us (jk). I didn't know much about any of these women and I spent a lot of time reading about them on Wikipedia in between chapters. It was a little tricky to figure out how they were all connected; I would have loved a family tree as part of the book.

The writing is a bit frothy and the story is a little far fetched but I enjoyed the book. I definitely recommend reading the prequel. 3.5 stars.

Did not expect this storyline to end the way it did. So emotional and loved how the plotlines intersected at the end. Great ending to the story.
Loved it!

What a terrific follow-up to “Queen’s Game.” The best of both books were the author’s notes detailing which parts of the story were embellished and tease that were true. I felt genuinely connected to the characters and spent lots of time googling images a biographies of the royals.

This clever Historical Fiction duet, based on real people and events, was so very well done! Even if you don't know what actually happened in real life, this series is an amazing YA read! It's about three princesses and several princes and has all the humor, romance, cunning, and schemes that Katharine McGee readers have long enjoyed.

In this 'Queen's Duet,' Queen Victoria of England tries to play matchmaker for her many grandchildren, spread throughout the thrones of Europe. Her favorite granddaughter, Alix of Hesse, rejects the proposed match to the future king of England, Prince Eddy. Prince Eddy, meanwhile, has fallen in love with a French princess, whose family is banished from France. And May of Teck schemes in the background, determine to secure a crown for herself at any cost.

I love how the author tied everything up, to align with real-life events, while also granting readers a satisfying conclusion to the spin she put on all the characters.

Highly recommended YA reading!

I adore all the booikis Katharine McGree writes and this one was no exception! Thanks Netgalley for this ARC, This book starts where the first book in this duology ended. I love that the story picked up right away. I love the marriage season timeline and the "pressure" it put on Helene, May, and Alix. This book was heartwarming, charming, at time frustrating, and a great cozy weekend read.

The final book in the historical ficton/romance duet following three princesses in their quest for love. Plenty of twists, scandal, and sweet moments round out the engaging story. Recommended for high school to Adult readers, contains off-page and fade-to-black scenes. I love the historical truths and enjoyed researching secondary characters to see what happened to them in real life.

This novel follows the story of May, Helene, and Alix, all connected to different royal families in Europe during the late 1800s. Each of the women are trying to find their place in society and choose the one they will marry through many turn of events.

This was such an interesting read, as it was based off of true events! I loved that each of the main characters had such different stories, but were very entwined with each other's. The author did such a good job of creating exciting, yet believable, backstories that could have explained much of the history we don't actually know for ourselves. I enjoyed the changing of perspectives and that none of the three women were comparable in not only their histories, but their personalities either. This made the change of perspectives and the growth of their characters that much more exciting.

This book is a great sequel and end for the "Queen's Duet" and is in a very unique genre of historical romance. This is a great New Adult book for those that are interested in historical romances and especially European themes in the late 1800s.

I received a temporary digital copy of A Queen's Match from NetGalley, Random House Books for Young Readers and the author in exchange for an honest review. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Helene d'Orleans, Alix of Hesse and May of Teck are closing in on the end of their marriage season. Helene is trying to outwit May and her threats; Alix is hopelessly in love with the future Tsar of Russia; May is determined to escape her horrible father and sit on the throne next to the future King of England. Who will win in the battle of love and power?

McGee did an excellent job with A Queen's Match. Of course you want the love matches to win out; however, May's determination and grit is admirable, it's hard not to root for her. I highly enjoyed McGee's ability to take real life situations and interpret what could have happened in those in-between moments. A Queen's Match is an excellent ending to the A Queens Duet series.

I have been looking forward to "A Queen's Match" since the second I finished "A Queen's Game". I was so happy dive back into the world that Katherine McGee has created. The three points of view can get to be a bit confusing but doesn't take away from the book. Overall I very much enjoyed it.

I love McGee’s books! Her take on royals and their stories, focusing on the women who we don’t know was great.

A Queen’s Match, the sequel to A Queen’s Game, was an absolute delight from start to finish. Picking up right where the first book left off, we follow princesses Helene, Alix, and May as they hide secrets, spin lies, and do whatever it takes to be with the princes they love. From the very first page, I was hooked — ignoring everything else on my to-do list just so I could keep reading.

The story is at times hilarious, heartbreaking, and maddening — a full rollercoaster of emotions. Knowing it’s inspired by real historical events made it even more compelling, and Katharine McGee’s clever twists bring these figures to life in such a vivid way. While I already knew where history left them, I couldn’t wait to see how her version unfolded. She makes you feel the love, heartbreak, and betrayal each character experiences — I went from despising May in some chapters to feeling sympathy for her in others.

I especially loved how the author wove actual history into the plot while making it her own with fresh, unexpected turns. It’s a story that manages to be both bittersweet and charming, and while I enjoyed it immensely as an adult, I know younger me would have devoured it too.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Huge thanks to NetGalley and Random House for the opportunity to read this fabulous e-ARC!

I've been eagerly looking forward to this since I first picked up "A Queen's Game." This is the conclusion to the duology, once again following the three noblewomen as they navigate courtships and life in high society England. This book picks up almost immediately where the last left off, and is still told with compelling language that's fun and witty. It reads quite quickly, as readers continue on following the lives of these engaging FMCs as they each try to balance what they want with family obligations and expectations. Both novels are, obviously, based on real people yet the stories do feel original. It's a perfect balance between fiction and reality. It's so dramatic that it feels fictional, yet it's not. I was so enthralled, like, I couldnt put it down.

If you want to have a good cry, this book is for you. I SOBBED! Since this is based on real royal couples, I knew what was coming but Queen’s Match by Katharine McGee, had me so hooked I was desperately wishing for her to change the ending for my girl, Hélène. Thankfully not all of the couples have a sad ending. This book was beautifully written and I recommend it to any history or royal fans.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC. Opinions are my own.

This is an excellent sequel to “A Queen’s Game” and the authors end note on what inspired these books was fascinating! I had no idea that any of this was based in historical fact. HIGHLY recommend this series!!!

Not as good as I'd hoped. Very unfair to Queen Mary. As a lover of history I know how everything turned out. But would have liked a more balanced portrayal.

I received this copy from Net Galley in exchange for an un biased review.

Three princesses. One throne-shaped chessboard. Hélène, Alix, and May each play a different power game in a court where love and ambition are mutually exclusive. McGee pulls no punches in this finale—just when you think you know where it’s going, it swerves. Messy, glittery, emotionally brutal, and surprisingly satisfying. These royal girls are playing for keeps—and they do not miss!

The thrilling conclusion to A Queen's Game. May of Teck, Alix of Hesse and Helene d'Orleans are back and ready to change the European monarchies forever. A sweeping historical novel of romance, intrigue, and betrayal. May of Teck's scheming may finally give her everything she wants-but it may also lead to her downfall. Helene d'Oreleans is still in love with Prince Eddy-can she win him back by pretending to court another prince? And Alix of Hesse is still in love with Prince Nicholas of Russia, but when she meets another suitor, she questions whether life would be easier to marry them. Will these three princesses find their happily ever after?
