If you want to have a good cry, this book is for you. I SOBBED! Since this is based on real royal couples, I knew what was coming but Queen’s Match by Katharine McGee, had me so hooked I was desperately wishing for her to change the ending for my girl, Hélène. Thankfully not all of the couples have a sad ending. This book was beautifully written and I recommend it to any history or royal fans.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC. Opinions are my own.

This is an excellent sequel to “A Queen’s Game” and the authors end note on what inspired these books was fascinating! I had no idea that any of this was based in historical fact. HIGHLY recommend this series!!!

Not as good as I'd hoped. Very unfair to Queen Mary. As a lover of history I know how everything turned out. But would have liked a more balanced portrayal.

I received this copy from Net Galley in exchange for an un biased review.

Three princesses. One throne-shaped chessboard. Hélène, Alix, and May each play a different power game in a court where love and ambition are mutually exclusive. McGee pulls no punches in this finale—just when you think you know where it’s going, it swerves. Messy, glittery, emotionally brutal, and surprisingly satisfying. These royal girls are playing for keeps—and they do not miss!

The thrilling conclusion to A Queen's Game. May of Teck, Alix of Hesse and Helene d'Orleans are back and ready to change the European monarchies forever. A sweeping historical novel of romance, intrigue, and betrayal. May of Teck's scheming may finally give her everything she wants-but it may also lead to her downfall. Helene d'Oreleans is still in love with Prince Eddy-can she win him back by pretending to court another prince? And Alix of Hesse is still in love with Prince Nicholas of Russia, but when she meets another suitor, she questions whether life would be easier to marry them. Will these three princesses find their happily ever after?

A Queen's Match - the sequel to A Queen's Game - was such a joy to read. It picks up where the first book left off with three princesses, Helene, Alix and May keeping secrets, telling lies and doing whatever it takes to be with the princes they love. I was totally immersed in this book from the very beginning, leaving other things undone just so I could read. It is by turns, funny, sad and infuriating - ALL the emotions play out in the pages of this book. The fact that it was inspired by true events, makes it even better in my opinion. Five stars all the way!!

A Queen’s Match
The sequel to “A Queen’s Game” brings us back to the world of Hélène, Alix, and May of Teck. The book sucked me back into their world from the first page as only a Katharine Mc Gee book can. Her writing style is fresh and had me wishing I had taken a European history class in school. While the framework of the story is based on historical events the behind the scenes dialogue is all Katharine. The story kept me engaged through the conclusion and had me wanting to learn more about the women in this book.

In the final book of this historical romance series Katherine McGee does a great job of balancing true history with the imagined personal thoughts and actions of the young royals involved. She writes each character with heart, wether it is the villain or the person you are rooting for to find their love match. In each of her books, this series and the American Royals, the reader learns about the world or royals and how they are "real' people as well as their public facing image.

A Queens Match reigns again! The sequel to A Queens Game is a perfect edition to the story.
Queen Victoria is busy match making her grandchildren to form powerful marriages all across Europe. Matters of the court and matters of the heart collide for three princesses; exiled French Princess Helene d’Orleans, Princess Alix of Hess, and Princess May of Teck.
Love, deceit, familial obligations and blackmail all play a role in their courtships. The question is will they be able to marry the ones they love?
My favorite book thus far! Katharine McGee just keeps writing the most perfectly enticing and entertaining royal stories. Whether you’ve read her other series, The American Royals or just love anything Royal, this is a book not to be missed!!

A worthy conclusion to a riveting story. I constantly found myself Googling the characters to see how close to real life the story was. I wish there could have been a little bit more of a happily ever after at the end. But overall I very much enjoyed that. Thank you netgalley and the publishers for the free e-arc.

I was hoping for a Bridgerton-esque romp, but instead got a pseudo-Austen slog. From the start of the book we knew where our was going… but I persevered and it is perfect for my classroom library! I loved the twist at the end (no spoilers here!). Thank you NetGalley for the the sneak peek!

Full of royal drama and sparkling romance, this entry into the American Royals universe is both juicy and emotionally satisfying. McGee continues to deliver compelling alternate-history intrigue.

Héléne, Alix, and May are back in the duet book for "A Queen's Game" published in 2024. The first book left us right after all the upcoming betrothals shattered and the girls were all mismatched again. In this book, May is still looking to escape her Father and determined to marry well and powerfully. Alix and Héléne wished to marry for love, but were fighting seemingly losing battles against protocol and the Crowns.

Based on true history of the lives of these three women, this book will may find some readers in middle school grades, but will likely appeal to teenagers looking for romance stories with more conservative content. I enjoyed the history, which led me to do a little research on my own about the main characters.

This if the fifth McGee book I've had the privilege of reading, and I've loved every single one of them. The author does such an amazing job of taking these real historic figures and bringing them to life for readers to understand that history was _lived_ and experienced by people much like themselves, rather than just being paragraphs in a stodgy textbook. I have enjoyed this series much more than the American Royals for that reason alone, though both are fantastic series for YA readers!

Katherine McGee is brilliant! This was a fantastic read from start to finish; an incredible sequel to "The Queen's Game". The plot was well-paced and captivating. This is definitely one I'll read again! Many thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the advanced copy of the book.

I did not want this book to end! I am a big Katharine McGee fan and I adore her writing style. I finished A Queen's Game and was elated to receive this ARC of A Queen's Match so soon after finishing. I am only sad there is not a 3rd book! I loved the interwoven stories of the 3 women and spent a lot of time during and after reading researching these historical characters on my own. KM does a wonderful job of adding humor and humanity to the most often thought out-of-touch royals. The suspense (although not completely since I looked up the stories but that was my doing!) and scandal that circulated these stories both factual and fantasized made for a great read!

Every book by McGee is fantastic! She has such an expert way at weaving interesting characters throughout a fast-paced, didn't-see-that-coming plotline.

I love every single one of Katharine McGees books! This one is definitely another fantastic read by this author. After her first book in this series, we were left in such a cliffhanger and I was so excited to see what would happen in this story. Helene, Alix and May are all well developed characters with stories I found captivating. I love how she took these real life characters and made this story captivating for the reader. I finished this book in a day as I could not put it down. I wish there was a third book in the series to further follow these wonderful characters. Thank you netgalley and publisher for the advanced read. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of this book.

The first book in this series left on such a cliffhanger - while I could see the actual outcomes of these real characters, I needed to know how they got there in the eyes of Katharine McGee. The author brings the characters to life and you feel all of the love, anguish, and betrayal that each character feels. I hated May in some chapters and felt sorry for her in others.

While I don’t normally love historical fiction, I truly enjoyed looking at actual royals from the last 130ish years through the eyes of a modern storyteller.

Brava, Katharine McGee. I still think American Royals is her best series but this one hooked me. I can’t wait to see what she does next!

As Queen Victoria works to secure powerful alliances through royal marriages, the final days of the season bring high stakes and tangled hearts for three very different princesses.

Exiled French princess Hélène d'Orléans never wanted to end things with Prince Eddy—but duty left her no choice. Now her parents are eyeing a new suitor…one whose heart belongs elsewhere.

Alix of Hesse may have escaped a match with Eddy, but the Queen isn’t pleased with the man who holds Alix’s heart. Without her grandmother’s approval, can love survive?

And then there’s Princess May of Teck—ambitious, calculating, and crown-focused. With Eddy single once more, she’s watching and waiting, ready to turn heartbreak into opportunity.

McGee brings this duology to a heartbreaking and happy ending. Talk about keeping your friends close but your enemies closer. I loved how she pulled all the characters and storylines together. Just when you think you figured out who will end up with who, she flips the script. These princesses may come off as oh so sweet but they know how to turn the tables and slap back at those who believe they are just that, princesses. They each fight for what they believe in and who they love, while exacting revenge on those who think they have gotten the best of them. I will say I did cry towards the end (no spoilers) and rooted for most of the princesses...This is a nice wrap up of the series!
