Pomona Afton learned what it truly means to have nothing, and she's changing her ways to be more considerate of others. One of those ways is a nonprofit she's hosting a massive gala for, which should be a breeze, considering her party-girl past. But one of her major donors is murdered during the gala, and now she's got to figure out the who and why of it if she hopes to salvage her new life path.
The premise remains a basic whodunit, with someone who has no skills or savvy when it comes to murder trying to figure it out, yet the glitzy world of the uberrich that Pomona lives in makes it stand out. You get pulled into it not so much by the mystery as by the people involved.
I love that Pomona truly figures out how she wants to live and that it's based solely on what makes her happy and not what the different cliques of society expect of her. Even better than the interesting case she's entertainingly bumbling her way through, it's the character growth and connections that made this a great for me. Yes, Pomona continues to be a bit self-centered in her reasons for wanting to solve the murder, but the more I read about her family and social circle, the more I respected her for being able and willing to change.
Very happy thanks to NetGalley and Atria/Emily Bestler Books for the fun read!
