I enjoyed this book. Among its strong points are the interesting material about common knowledge, very conversational tone that Pinker uses, the glimpses into Pinker's life, and the humour, including the comics and cartoons. Also helping are some explanatory illustrations, references to pop culture, and great examples. Pinker refers to his research frequently, explaining how some of the studies discussed were conducted, which on its own is interesting. Sometimes the information can be befuddling, as in multiple rounds of things like I know that you know that I know that you know. The book is not a casual read; it does take work to parse the text. Overall, I found this book well worthwhile reading. Thank you to Netgalley and Scribner for the advance reader copy.
