Peigi Grant saved the life of the Comyn heir when they were just children. He stood accused of murdering her father and another laird. No one believed her when she said he was innocent, so she helped him escape. Another meeting, fourteen years later, sets the stage for their grand love, but they get separated before they can elope. Now, he must decide if the love he feels for Peigi is enough to set his lust for revenge aside and set down his war scythe forever.

It's a very solid romance that suffers a little from Peigi having a martyr complex the size of Scotland. Alex is always praising how she's strong in spirit, but her acting like a kicked puppy and always saying that everything is fine when it clearly is not is a character trait that got annoying fast. It's a pet peeve of mine that not even the fun action and a solid mystery were enough to fully beat back.

That said, Alex is fun and charming, and the romance between the two of them is insanely sweet. The blurb promises you some sweet Highland romance, and it more than delivers on that, along with tons of swoony moments bracketed by action and even a little intrigue.
