Still excellent upon rereading, and I foresee this excellent adventure blowing up in popularity again once the movie comes out!

Artemis Fowl is everything a fresh new book should be! Full of adventure, clever word play, unique and satisfying world building without over-complexity, and especially memorable characters!
Artemis is one of my favorite characters to come on the scene in a long while. He represents the flawed protagonist so well. The armor of his intelligence and resolve never quite disguise the fact that he's a child yearning for his family. And that core desire gives this amazing book plenty of magic and wings to fly!
As well, the supporting cast of characters are presented with such wit and humor that I'd happily settle down to read whole books just about them and their back stories.
Artemis Fowl is an absolute success!

Have read several books in this series and have enjoyed them all. I enjoyed this one as well. Fast paced and easy to read. Highly recommend.

Fun read-was happy to revisit it in time for the movie. 12 year old genius kidnaps a fairy to revive the family fortune!

My brother read Artemis Fowl and loved the entire series and now I know why. This book is fun, interesting, a little sad and an adventure. Artemis is a twelve year old genius from a family of criminals. His father is missing presumed dead, his mother cannot handle the reality of her husband's loss. Artemis is looking for gold, lots of it and kidnaps Holly Short a fairy to restore the family's fortune setting off a conflict between humans and the fae that Artemis might not be able to contain. This book has everything action, adventure, fun dialogue and it's also a complex, emotional story about a boy trying to fix his family by hook or by crook.

Having always been curious about this book, I am glad NetGalley offered me the opportunity to read it before the movie is released. This fascinating story will quickly draw you into the possibility that fairies really do exist.. My only criticism is that the descriptions of the unfamiliar fairy world did not flow smoothly. It will be fun to see if the pictures in my mind are reflected in the movie.

I absolutely can see why middle grade readers would love this. I did not. But that's ok - there are books for everyone! Artemis is a 12 year old genius-turned-criminal mastermind. It doesn't hurt that he's a millionaire, too! Readers will love all the hijinks and and poop jokes, not to mention international travel and fantastical characters (fairies, trolls, and more). Definitely a must read for middle graders

12 year old criminal genius Artemis Fowl goes up against the LEPrecon, the Fairy police, in a plot to steal Fairy gold. This is a quick read, full of action, and I'm sure most kids love it. Ten year old boys in particular will love the occasional crass humor, but for me it was just. . . . crass. It's also very heavy-handed with it's anti-human ecology statements. But it does have a good storyline, and good dialogue and sassy banter for that age range. This should make a fun Disney movie. I was going to give it only 3 stars due to the crass humor and environmental propaganda, but will give it 4 due to it's originality and potential. Many thanks to NetGalley and Disney-Hyperion for the e-book in exchange for a review.

12 year old criminal mastermind, Artemis Fowl is trying to restore his family and their fortune by extorting "fairy-folk" and the like. Middle graders will love this book. There are a few places that seem to be a bit intense for the youngest readers. Overall a decent book and hopefully they pull it off with the movie adaptation.

Twelve-year-old mastermind, Artemis Fowl, and his lifelong companion, Butler, take on the Faerie world in Eoin Colfer's 'Artemis Fowl'. I read this as a middle schooler and remember just loving it. This novel has stayed with me ever since and I was thrilled to re-visit this action packed, humor-filled world created by Colfer. Highly recommend for readers of all ages.

Artemis Fowl is a 12-year-old criminal mastermind. He lives in a mansion owned by his family with his bodyguard, named Butler. His mother and Butler’s sister also live there. Artemis is cooking up a scheme to steal some fairy gold and Butler is his accomplice in this fantasy tale.

How does one learn about fairies? Well, Artemis begins by obtaining the fairys’ book of rules and translating it from the Gnommish language. This guy is a genius, of course. And he’s got plenty of resources at his fingertips. He then kidnaps a fairy, who happens to be a LEP officer, Holly Short. She is an elf who works as a leprechaun. (Don’t worry, it’s explained in the story.) LEP stands for Lower Elements Police. LEPrecon was the origin of the word leprechaun.

Artemis hatches a very complex plan and finds that things can still go wrong. Will he survive this scheme?

This is an excellent fantasy novel with very interesting characters. The plot moves along smoothly with plenty of twists and imaginative happenings to capture the interest of any reader. There are gadgets and tricks and lots of very cool background about the creatures who live under the earth.

The reading level may be a bit high for children in younger grades, so I recommend this book for ages 11 and up. The fast-moving story is enough to hold the reader’s interest. Characters are given detailed backgrounds that make them come alive on the pages. The underground characters include fairies, trolls, centaurs and much more. They have a well-developed civilization to rival that of the humans who live on the surface of the earth in this tale. In fact, they may have better hardware and gadgets!

This was a thoroughly enjoyable novel and should be of interest to a wide range of readers.

I read this book to my children aloud (12 and 13 year old boys) and we all loved it. It was a fun book, with a unique storyline, and it sparked my children's imagination! I would definitely recommend this book for the age group I had read it to.

This is a really fun, funny book. My only gripe would be that I’m not 100% sure who the intended audience is because it’s a bit crude for a younger reader and would be a bit boring to a more mature reader.

What a fun entertaining read! Perfect for middle schoolers. With his father gone and his mother slipping in and out of reality, Artemis, a 12 year old criminal mastermind, and his trusted Butler take on the underworld’s LEPRecon to replenish his families fortune. Packed with action and humor, it is an adventure not to miss.

What can I say? Any book with a dwarf who eats dirt and expels it like a rocket is going to catch any ones attention. When you also have a prepubescent mastermind trying to take over the world, you have a hit. Love this book.

I am a big fan of Eoin Colfer and having the chance to revisit this novel was a lot of fun. Artemis, a super-rich 12-year-old evil genius, already has his hands in the underworld, but he is about to venture into the 'otherworld' by capturing and ransoming a fairy. Of course, everything that can go wrong will go wrong! This is a story suitable for middle school students, is fast paced, action packed, funny and charming. The dialogue is interesting and helps maintain a fast pace. All of the characters seem to develop well and show signs of moral improvement, even the evil Artemis, who does 'bad' in order to save his mother. This is a fun series, and it was very enjoyable to revisit the book and remember how much it is enjoyed by this age group. It is really rewarding to see reluctant readers chuckling over the dialogue.

I read the entire series a few years ago and offer it to my students frequently. When the title was offered by NetGalley, I was delighted to revisit the story.

Artemis Fowl is a delightfully arrogant young man who has it out for mythical fairy creatures. This story is like pre-teen Sherlock Holmes mixed with Batman and Percy Jackson. Kids will love the mix of Artemis' extravagant life and razor sharp deduction as they plunge themselves into the clandestine and surprisingly updated world of the fairies.

Honest review given in exchange for an advance copy of the story.

Artemis Fowl is an inventive series that engages the reader and sparks the imagination. This is the first book in the series and is destined to become a classic.

Artemis Fowl is a twelve-year-old criminal mastermind. When Artemis’s dad goes missing, and his mom starts to go crazy, he knows that it is up to him to restore the family fortune. Then Artemis hatches a master plan to acquire the fairy’s sacred book so that he can steal their gold. All they need to do is kidnap a fairy. But, things don’t go as planned. Could they be on the verge of an inter-species war?

This fun filled fantasy will keep readers involved in the action and rooting for their favorite side. Artemis is an endearing anti-hero that will make you want to read the rest of the series. This is a great book for fans of Skullduggery Pleasant, Magyk, or other heist based fantasies. Due to minor incidents of violence and language this book is recommended for ages nine and up.
