Two years have passed since we last met last with Paula Maguire, forensic psychologist and missing persons expert. She has had lots of changes in her life, she now has a daughter Maggie, she’s living with Aiden who she is about to marry, and Guy Brooking has gone back to England.

A university student, Alice, has gone missing, on the same day that another girl went missing from the same church in 1981. There is blood found at the scene and an ancient relic is also missing. It’s Paula and DS Corry’s job to discover why she has vanished and if she is still alive and does one missing girl have anything to do with the other one from 30 years ago.

They question her friends at the university who tell Paula and DS Corry that Alice, who suffers from an eating disorder, has run off before and she will come back when she’s ready. The police are sceptical of her friends as it appears that they are keeping something back. It seems that nobody is really bothered that Alice is missing from her parents to her supposed friends.

This is a story with several different themes, we see Alice’s life through her eyes and the reason for her disappearance, what happened to the other missing girl and how Paula’s life seems to be going from bad to worse.

This is an excellent well written series, it gives you an insight into the troubles that have plagued Northern Ireland and how all their lives have been affected.
