Abbie Roads takes a thriller of a plot and infuses the story with pain, redemption, and salvation through love. The paranormal thread was intricately woven throughout the story and added so much to both the characters and plot. The villain is three dimensional, the danger real, and the tension deliciously thick.
I hope she’s got more in this Fatal Dreams series, but I’ll definitely pick up SAVING MERCY, the first in her new Fatal Truth series, coming out in April.

What a fabulous story! This book has it all...the suspense, mystery, love. Latham and Evanee both have "special" abilities that add to the tale. While this is the second book in the series, it doesn't have to be read in order but it helps. Ms Roads writes this so well that you feel you are a part of three story. There are so many layers that keep being pulled away with each chapter You will feel so many emotions. You will feel a part of all the twists and turns happening. A truly amazing book.

Abby Roads sure likes to write thrilling books, full of romance, and very dark moments!!

The book, grabbed me right from the beginning, It might be that now that I know Abbie, I love her books, or that I knew it would not disappoint, but let me tell you, the book delivered!!!

In this journey, we have Lathaniel Montgomery, a guy thats had it rough since childhood, because he can’t be with many people, and he can't touch anything because it triggers his SM, he has an extraordinary sense of smell, it is so developed, that by smell he can actually see memories of people. Can you imagine suddenly being thrown in the memories of other people??

He has been an Ace up the FBIs sleeve, because he helps them with cold cases, but he has a very secluded life. In addition to his SM, he is almost deaf because of a trauma he suffered as a child.

Lathaniel has been following and trying to stop a serial killer, “the Strategist” but hasn’t been able to catch him or a break.

And we have Evanee Brown, or as she is called throughout the book Honey!

She has the most horrifying nightmares, except they are not ordinary, she can bring back certain items with her when she wakes up.

Suddenly life throws them together and something new for both of them happens… they find home!!!

The problem is, other people are not so happy, and their pasts hunts them….. Can they overcome and survive? Can they even overcome death???

This book has it all, this series is dark, thrilling and compelling! I really can't wait to read the next one…

DNF. From the beginning, the story was too fast, too dark and too edgy for my tastes. I struggled to find the romance between the characters to no avail.

Latham and Honey just broke my heart. I love them so much and confess I was in tears at least 3 times in this book. The mystery in this story was solid and I really enjoyed all of the secondary characters. Even the villain in the story was superbly written. I did feel there were some loose ends toward the conclusion of the story (what happened with Honey's stepfather and how did they prove her innocence) but they in no way detracted from what was an emotional, engaging story of love conquering over evil and two broken people finding their soul mate.

Hunt the dawn is definitely one heck of a page turner of a suspense novel! Honestly, I probably should have read the first book first, as our hero Lathan with introduced there. He's an almost deaf, normal kind of guy who does his best to save the girl. The girl, Evananee, has been sold to a monster when she was 5. Now, she's hunted by him.

Just incredible suspense.

So fantastic, Abbie Roads has nailed the dark, disturbing, and sexy. What's nice is that you don't have to read the first book of the series, Race the Darkness, in order to read this one; it helps but it's not required. This book was everything I hoped for and more when I thought about Lathan story. Evanee I really love her, she did what she had to do to survive and even when at her lowest it didn't stop her.

Lathan is unbelievable with his overactive olfactory being able to see memories and feelings from a person's smell. He works with the FBI as a special consultant he helps track down killers and he's one the path of one who is constantly changing his MO but the nose knows and Lathan knows all these victims were killed by the same person. Lathan because of his talent doesn't get close to people for the exception of one, his childhood friend and FBI contact. Evanee is working at a truck stop diner surviving on tips trying to avoid the pervert who has been harassing her. Evanee's car stops working she pulls off into a rest stop and who should show up but her step brother the pervert. Lathan happen to be riding by and he smelled Evanee's fear he pulls over to help. Everything about about Evanee calls to Lathan, he instinctually trusts her and knows he must protect her at all costs. Evanee is in shock by the time the stranger rescues her she allows him to take her to his home until she feels better. Evanee, like Lathan, trusts him she knows that she should know better but it's an instinctual need to be with him. Lathan can drop his guard around her and not get bombarded with scent memories. Evanee, on the other hand, her dreams start getting worse, she's connecting with the murdered victims in Lathan's case and leads to evidence. The serial killer figures out who but not how, but at all costs he must stop Lathan from exposing him so he focus on the person closest to Lathan; Evanee.

Overall, this truly exceeded my expectations for the book. L

Well, this book was very promising, it just needed something more.

Lathan, was developed very nicely, I liked him, I believed him and I wanted to know more about him.

Evanee, I just couldn’t relate to her. She is abused by her stepbrother repeatedly and horribly. I don’t know how a woman who was abused since childhood would behave because thankfully it didn’t happen to me, but I would guess that at some point you wouldn’t let any other man do the same. She just went through a traumatic experience, is “rescued” by a man, that claims is helping her, takes her to his “house” and proceeds to clean her by touching her everywhere and pleasuring himself at the same time. Later he “helps” her again and she thinks that is okay because he is being nice, uhhhh, wth? She just wasn’t strong, I needed her to snap out of it or at least be afraid because a guy she doesn’t know is touching her, and she is naked and in a strange place.

Evanee’s mom, how can a mom think that her only option is to do that to her daughter so they are safe and still claim she loves her, I was just mad about this woman, I hated her.

The story was promising, having a guy that can tell your secrets by smelling you (new to me) and a woman dreaming about murder victims and be able to help them find their murderer is something I like and I wanted to explore more of it. It was just some characters that weren’t suitable for this story.

The romance, it was a bit odd and I get why the insta-love. I guess I just wanted Lathan for me, hehe.

Overall interesting approach and great Hero.

A wonderfully well written and engaging unique story from a new to me author. I absolutely love it when a good author puts loads of time and plausible story behind a science fiction piece like this. Hunt the Dawn is the second book in Abbie Roads’ Fatal Dreams series. You do not have to read the first book, Race the Darkness, to understand this one. There are some overlapping characters but their relationships are clearly explained so you don’t really feel like you missed something that happened earlier. The hero in this book was only mentioned briefly in the previous book.

Lathaniel “Lathan” Montgomery collaborates with the FBI on special cases. He does this because he has such an extraordinary sense of smell that he can actually smell your memories. While he is trying to catch a prolific serial killer, Lathan comes across a damsel in distress named Evanee Brown. He rescues her when she is about to be assaulted by her own stepbrother. Although his special ability has always came with a certain level of pain, he notices that when he is around Evanee his world is calm. Conversely, Lathan seems to have a similar effect on Evanee. As they spend more time together, it becomes apparent that Evanee has her own gifts that manifest while she is in a dream state. Together, Lathan and Evanee inadvertently garner the attention of the very serial killer that Lathan has been trying to capture. As he tries to keep her safe, the couple fall in love and establish a bond that can’t be broken.

I really enjoyed Hunt the Dawn. After reading the first one, I was concerned that I may be disappointed since there are similar themes. I was pleasantly surprised. The characters had a lot of depth and it was interesting to see how their unique gifts had an affect on them and their families. I was hoping that the author would write a third book but I think this may be it for this series. I may just have to see what else Abbie Roads has to offer.

Hunt the Dawn is the second book in the Fatal Dreams series by Abbie Roads. The first book was reviewed by Jen and it wasn’t for her, but I really enjoyed it so I jumped in to read the second installment. In order for me to enjoy a book with psychic elements, the story must be really good, and I liked Hunt the Dawn even more than Race the Darkness. The heroine has survived hell and come out on top and while she lets the hero help her, she is a badass in her own right.

We were introduced to Lathan Montgomery in Race the Darkness, but very little was revealed about him. With the ability to see other people’s memories through scent, he is a very valuable asset to the FBI. Unfortunately, this ability hits him at times when he cannot control it and the sensations are overwhelming. This has led him to a very lonely life. All that changes when he comes across a scene where a woman is being attacked, and he intervenes.

Evanee Brown had a horrible childhood at the hands of her step-brother. Her mother was never there to help or protect her, so at a very young age she learned to fight and stand up for herself. When said step-brother corners her and begins trying to attack her again, she refuses to go down without a fight. Luckily for her, Lathan rolls up at the exact right time. She instinctively trusts him even though it sounds crazy, and despite his overwhelming size and the tattoo on his face. When he takes her back to his house to clean up, Evanee falls asleep and into a nightmare. Only when she wakes up from the nightmare, she’s holding a human eyeball.

When Lathan and his friend and partner Gill realize that Evanee has somehow gotten ahold of the eyeball of a victim of a serial killer that to date only those two even knew existed, things turn even more bizarre. Evanee continues to have her dreams bringing back pieces of people that were brutally murdered by a serial killer they have called the Strategist. Between the dreams, her mother dying, whatever this thing is with Lathan, Evanee is working on overload. Gill then suggests that she go to the dream clinic that was founded by the hero from the first book, Xander’s father.

Some things I really enjoyed about this one were that for once it wasn’t the innocent virgin heroine and the experienced but now suddenly reformed hero. When Lathan experienced his first kiss my heart melted a little. I also really liked that the story didn’t drag on – the action kept going and kept me interested. I read the whole thing in one sitting. And I loved both the hero and the heroine.

There was one big thing that irked me at the end but I don’t want to give away too much about the ending. Let’s just say that I was not impressed with Evanee’s handling of a certain situation. Also she never finds out that Lathan was a virgin which seemed like a potentially emotional scene but then it never went anywhere.

Overall I really enjoyed this one and I hope there will be more books in the series. The story moved fast but not so fast that it felt overly rushed, the hero and heroine were great, and I enjoy the mystery surrounding the powers these couples have.
