Despite this sampler being available to view and request on NetGalley, it isn't possible to download it so unfortunately I couldn't read it.

I’m so addicted to these I’ve even been hunting down the old ones to see if there’s any interesting books I’ve missed!

I was looking forward to reading this book of samples. Unfortunately, this book of fiction samples could not be downloaded. This should probably be removed from the selections of available books from Netgalley.

I couldn’t download this file because it’s from 2016 and seems to have been removed. I love reading this samplers to try out new books.

Not sure why this is still marked as "Read Now," since it looks like PRH unfortunately removed this content. Was interested to try out some samples of backlist titles, but downloading is no longer possible.

Thank you NetGalley and Penguin Random House for this sampler. I actually wasn't able to download the file but since the Sampler is from 2016, everything is out and I read the samples available on Amazon.

I follow genre fiction more closely than literary fiction, so I guess it wasn't a surprise to me that I'd only heard of three of these books -- THE BEAR AND THE NIGHTINGALE, THE MOTHERS, and BEHOLD THE DREAMERS -- and of those I'd only read the first.

The beginning to THE BEAR AND THE NIGHTINGALE is a great introduction to the story -- we get fairy tales within this fairy tale, we get mothers dying to bring a destined child into the world, we get ominous encounters with villains -- and the atmosphere of the story, all the snow and cold and straitened circumstances, carries through the rest of the story.

I'm not sure I will read the rest of any of the other books as they were just not to my taste. My favorite part, though, was the portion of THE NIX where the phases of a student worming her way out of a plagiarism accusation are labeled with the same logical fallacies she was supposed to write a paper about, that was a nice ray of light in an excerpt that I think is supposed to be over-the-top and satirical but also came off as depressing.

What a fantastic selection. 6 hits for me including The Mothers, and Behold the Dreamers. Even thought I am surprised to see samplers from past years, I love the opportunity to catch up with titles I may have missed the first time around.

I believe these samplers would be wonderful to offer to book clubs--gives debut authors exposure to readers and opens up possible title choices to dedicated reader. I also appreciated the opportunity to preview quality fiction, even if already published. It helps me make choices in my future reading.

So thrilled to have the chance to read excerpts of nine great titles from the FALL 2016 DEBUT FICTION SAMPLER from Penguin Random House. Will definitely help drive my next fiction choices. Highly recommended!

Thanks to NetGalley and Penguin Random House for the chance to read these fine selections.

Thank you so much for posting these to look through. It introduces me to books I may not pick up before and gives me a chance to get a taste for what's to come later this year. It gets me so excited! I wouldn't have known about these otherwise. I'm a huge fan of Penguin Random House and I cannot wait to read The Mothers after seeing this!

Review of 2016 works. Didn't include works that should have been included but hindsight's twenty/twenty.

Samplers are so helpful to prioritize what new books to read next. This way I can spend time with books I already know I can really dive into!

It is always nice to get an idea of what is coming up but very hard to write a review on a bunch of samples!
Honestly these samplers shouldn't count against you percentage on netgalley!

Always keep an eye open on debut authors. A surprise is always a promise in these guides. So much talent out there to choose from, but this helps narrow down a few favorties.

Thank you, Penguin Random House and NetGalley for the sampler. The strength of the sampler is that one can read a chapter of a book, and that gives a real taste for the language, genre, themes, etc. A criticism (at least for me) is that it's a lot of reading. As a librarian, I do not have time to this kind of reading; I need something shorter. Along those lines, it would be helpful to see the verso/citation so I can see subject headings, etc. at a glance. And while this is a galley sampler, so it may not be far enough along in the process to add anything more, it would also be helpful to me to have some info on the author (other books they wrote) or potential read alikes.
