Detective Tracy Crosswhite returns in The Trapped Girl, the fourth in this excellent series. This time she and her crew are confronted with the body of a woman which has been found in a crab pot in the Puget Sound. It becomes clear that her identification will not be easy and in fact it appears she might have tried to conceal who she is. Why? Who is she fleeing from? Finding the answer will lead Tracy into a maze of greed and betrayal. The writing is excellent, as usual, and the plotting fast and convoluted. Loved it.

Thomas & Mercer and NetGalley provided me with an electronic copy of The Trapped Girl. This is my honest opinion of the book.

In this fourth installment of the Tracy Crosswhite series, Tracy and the rest of the Seattle PD's Violent Crimes Section are involved in the case of a woman who was found submerged in a crab pot. Before they can chase down the criminal responsible, the team must use all of the tools at their disposal to determine the woman's true identity. As the case brings up feelings in Tracy regarding her sister's murder years before, will it compromise her ability to let go of the case? As the investigation heats up , with regards to the woman and her past, will the detectives be able to sift through the layers and get to the truth?

Tracy Crosswhite is the type of main character that I love getting to know. It is refreshing to have a strong female lead character who does not have a tragic flaw. The dogged determination for the truth is not clouded by drugs or alcohol, like many main characters as of late. Her empathy towards her victims and their families is a real asset and comes through clearly in how she tackles each case. It does not seem like the character is slowing down any time soon, so I look forward to reading more about her in future books. I would recommend The Trapped Girl to readers who like police procedural/thrillers, regardless of whether they have read the previous novels.

When a woman’s body is discovered submerged in a crab pot in the chilly waters of Puget Sound, Detective Tracy Crosswhite finds herself with a tough case to untangle. Before they can identify the killer, Tracy and her colleagues on the Seattle PD’s Violent Crimes Section must figure out who the victim is. Her autopsy, however, reveals she may have gone to great lengths to conceal her identity. So who was she running from?
I really enjoy the Tracy Crosswhite books and this is up there with the best of them. With a convoluted plot and a cast of strong, believable characters, Robert Dugoni explores not only crime, but the human psyche. Fast paced and believable this is another winner!

I bloody love this series!! I am always patiently waiting for the next Tracy Crosswhite book!

She is such a strong and feisty character, not giving a shit when it comes to something she is passionate about and going above and beyond her role to make sure she can do everything in her power to solve a case.

This is such a good series!!

A girl trapped in every sense of the word. A body is found in a crab pot in Puget Sound, a female with a bullet hole in the head. The detective, Tracy Crosswhite, has to try to identify this woman in order to figure out who murdered her but it seems like the victim was trying to hid who she really was-- reconstructive surgery on her face, brand new birth certificate and driver's license, and no friends or family coming forward to claim her. A break comes in the case when a state park ranger calls, saying they may have found the body of a woman who disappeared while hiking Mount Rainier with her husband. The missing woman seems to have plenty of reasons to want to escape her life: a failing business started by her volatile, smooth talking lawyer husband who forged her name on bank guarantees on the business and was cheating on her. Her trust fund also mysteriously disappeared when she did. This case with the seemingly straight-forward clear motive has so many twists and turns that Tracy start to question everything about this case and what the police think they know. This mystery keeps you guessing to the very end on the "who done it" and why. None of my guesses throughout the book were correct. I had only read the first book in this series last year and it in no way affected me understanding the plot or the characters by not reading the rest of the series before reading this book but now I want to read the other books.

I gave this 4 out of 5 stars on Goodreads.

I received a free advanced copy of this book from NetGalley for review consideration.

An woman's body is found inside a submerged crab pot in the icy waters of Puget Sound. Detective Tracy Crosswhite of the Violent Crimes Section of the Seattle Police Department is called to the scene to investigate. When trying to determine the identity of her victim, she learns that the victim has gone to great lengths to conceal her identity. Through the course of her investigation, Tracey begins to believe that her Jane Doe may be a woman who disappeared months earlier while hiking with her husband. Could these two cases be related?

During the course of Tracy's investigation, the reader also gets to see Tracy as a person and we learn that she had a sister whose murder has gone unsolved. I should point out that this is the fourth book in the Tracy Crosswhite series but read as a stand alone novel for me. Some readers may already know about Tracy's past but as a first time being introduced to Tracey, it served to show why she was so driven to solve this woman's murder case and what personal demons she may be carrying around with her.

We also get to meet Andrea Strickland. The woman who went missing while hiking with her husband. She works as an insurance agent at day and prefers to be a homebody at night. Andrea's story is told mainly though her journal entries. There we meet her husband, Graham who is a fast talking attorney who believes image is everything. He wants to "get rich quick" and has no problems breaking the rules to do it. Andrea and Graham have a rocky relationship and they went hiking at a time when their relationship was at a low point. It is understandable that the police would want to look into him as a suspect. He is an unsavory character and I loved reading what other characters thought of him (suit looking on size too small, his mannerisms, etc).

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I loved how the story unfolded. Both women's stories are told so brilliantly together. Reading Tracy's investigation and interviews with witness sprinkled with journal entries really kicked this book into high gear. I think this book has a little bit of something for everyone: betrayal, lies, greed, manipulation and secrets. As the investigation continued, it became evident that there was more going on with Andrea and her husband than originally met the eye.

What I really liked was riding along with this investigation. I got to put my detective hat on. I thought I had this case all figured out and then the case did a 180 on me. I LOVE how the Author pulled this off. I love a book with great plot twists and turns that I did not see coming but feel completely believable. There was no pulling a rabbit out of the hat ending her. And speaking of the ending!!!!! What a surprise!

This was my book in the series but will not be my last. I plan on going back and reading the first books in this series. The pacing of this book was great - nothing lagged or dragged on to long. The characters were strong and believable. The writing was good. Will this book be considered a great literary work of art, maybe not but it is an exceptionally told book that never disappointed. I love mysteries and this is one the best ones I have read in a long time. Highly recommend!!!

I received a copy of "The Trapped Girl" from the Publishers and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Robert Dugoni has done it again with another in the Tracy Crosswhite series. Has Andrea disappeared or is she the woman in the crab trap? Tracy and her homicide colleagues try to navigate the complexities of jurisdiction and confusing clues in order to learn the answer. This series features a strong female protagonist who just won't let go of a case when it involves a young woman, going back to the days when her sister was missing and presumed dead. The supporting characters add interest, along with Tracy's romance with her attorney boyfriend. The Pacific Northwest setting also adds appeal. The plot has several twists and turns, and the ending was not entirely expected! I highly recommend this new addition to the Tracy Crosswhite series!

When I requested this book I actually was not aware it was a series. I was a little worried that I wouldn't like it because I hadn't read the previous books. However, this book can 100% be read as a standalone. I do think it would have been more enjoyable for me if I had read the others, but still good.

This was a really great suspense story. There were many twists and turns and omg what moments. The writing is incredibly clever and my initial worries were quickly squashed. By the end I truly wanted to go back and read the previous 3 books, which is saying a lot for me.

Dugoni does a great job of exploring the backgrounds of the characters making the story more relatable and enjoyable to read. The only thing holding me back from a 5-star rating is at times there was so much going on that I found it hard to keep everything straight. Bigger picture though this is a minor flaw, and others may not feel the same as I did.

Highly recommend to lovers of mystery.

This is the fourth book in the Tracy Crosswhite series. Hopefully unnecessary caveat: There may well be spoilers in here for the first three books in the series.

When a high school student takes his boat out to an uninhabited island to poach crabs, he has no idea what he’s getting into. Tangled up in his trap line is another crab trap, one with the body of a woman inside . . .

Enter detective Tracy Crosswhite, still recovering from the events of previous novels. Crosswhite, who has a soft spot for young female murder victims after the death of her sister, is determined to find out who killed this woman and stuffed her body in a crab trap in Puget Sound. But identifying the victim turns out to be only the beginning. The more Crosswhite learns about the young woman in the trap, the more intricate and convoluted the mystery becomes.

I’m going to come right out and say it: I did not finish this book. The synopsis sounds great, and for the most part the mystery was intriguing. I was getting flashes of “Gone Girl” while reading certain parts. But I just couldn’t get behind Crosswhite as a main character. We just didn’t have any chemistry. Towards the middle of the book, I found myself skipping over page after page of baby-crazy contemplation on her part, and after a while, I just felt that life is too short to keep reading a book I’d lost interest in.

This doesn’t necessarily mean that this is not a good book. A mystery aficionado should give The Trapped Girl a try. I have mixed feelings about this book. I, personally, did not like the main character, and I also don’t crack open mystery novels to hear a central female character pine about wanting a child. Yet the mystery, without the added-on drama, was an interesting one, and one that unfolded in unexpected ways.

So, long story short, I didn’t like this book very much, but I certainly don’t discourage others for giving it a shot.

An advance ebook was provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. The Trapped Girl will be available for purchase on January 24th, 2017.

Although not a cold case it becomes an investigation that resonates with detective Tracy Crosswhite. Another great police procedural set in and around Seattle. The team in Violent Crimes Section take another early call and have the difficult task of identifying a dead woman found in a crab pot. It looks like a professional hit but there is little to go on.
When a link is found with a missing person in a neighbouring county the magnitude of the crime and the players involved weaves an intriguing mystery. Just when Tracy feels they are getting somewhere; and not impressed by the original missing person inquiry they lose jurisdiction on the case as the missing person changed her name and ended up buried with the fishes.
Meanwhile Tracy's captain, Nolasco is back to his usual obstructive self and quick to find fault. The team feel he did not bat for them, regarding keeping the case and Tracy is again accused of not being objective and treating every case so personally.
This is the driver though that makes this series so special and the reader longs for a new development where Tracy can find out the truth and bring closure to the families involved. However, including myself few will guess where this thriller is going or how it will eventually end.
This ability of Robert Dugoni to flip a story and reveal evidence that was always in plain sight is one of the reasons this novel works so well. The characters are believable and stimulate empathy and at times displeasure by their ways and choices. We are left with thinking if a missing person is not dead then they'll do anything to fashion a new identity and make a new life, especially where money is involved. Hold that thought and the emotions it will bring in the reading of this fine book because it provides sympathy, sadness, hope and injustice in various measure.
For me this author can do no wrong as I have now read three of his books in a short time. There is no sense of a repeating plot with each book, great thought and plotting is helped by thorough research to provide original and disturbing mysteries. At the heart is Tracy Crosswhite the first female detective in Seattle's PD. The journey she has travelled in these novels enables them to be fresh and her relationships and hopes for herself and others makes the reading experience a profoundly enjoyable one. When she calls her fellow police officers in the A team at a celebration meal with their spouses as her family you barely hold back a tear. I like a book that shocks, stuns and stimulates me but when it also strikes a chord with my own humanity I know the time spent in a novel wasn't just entertaining but thoroughly worthwhile.

So many twists and turns that it was hard to keep up. Good mystery, though!

Once again, Robert Dugoni has written a wonderfully exciting thriller with interesting characters. Tracy Crosswhite is an admirably talented and highly principled police officer. She is also a compassionate woman who's own experiences colour her interactions with others. This makes her very easy to relate to. The reader is engaged not only in the progress of an intriguing criminal investigation, but also in Tracy's touching personal journey. Highly recommended. Thanks to Thomas and Mercer and NetGalley for the ARC.
