Stone Cold Christmas is the third in the Pelican Chronicle series. The protagonist, Kathy, is a pastor in a small town not far from Lake Wobegon. The idea for the series came from readers who often commented that while they love a good mystery, they were tired of murder and bloodshed. First Stone is a story of Kathy's conflicts with a few not so Minnesota Nice citizens of Pelican Falls. With the assistance of other clergy, they resolve their conflicts with cunning a few tricks that perhaps are outside the norms of her profession. In Stoned Too, Kathy is confronted with a series of calamities, not the least of an enigmatic newcomer to the village stalking her, the church is insolvent, and a warlock has placed an evil curse on the pastor. Stone Cold Christmas opens with the holiday only days away and a raging blizzard bearing down on the village, Kathy rescues a runaway teenage girl being pursued by relentless outlaws. As the blizzard clears, Kathy finds that not only is the teenager missing but an unidentified body rests frozen beneath the snow bank just outside the church door.
The stories will appeal to those of us who love a cozy mystery and the allure of small town America.

For anyone who's a fan of Prairie Home Companion or Fargo, this book's for you! It centers around Lutheran Pastor Kathy Johnson, who just can't stay away from solving a murder. It includes all sorts of hilarious references to those quirky Minnesotans (of which I am one). The plot is relatively simple, yet the characters and the cultural themes keep it interesting. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and hope there's a second one to come!
