Description

Zentangle® - a craft that's fun, easy and good for clearing your mind

New book teaches the practice of meditative drawing

(LANCASTER, PA) Have you heard about Zentangle®? Developed by Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas, Zentangle® is "artistic meditation." In Yoga for Your Brain:TM A Zentangle® Workout (Design Originals, January 1, 2011) readers will discover a craft that is easy to learn, requires just paper and pen, and calms the mind. Much like yoga, which has been practiced in many forms since ancient times, Zentangle® is a wonderful daily practice, which has been shown to quiet thoughts, relieve stress and create incredible focus.

Sandy Steen Bartholomew's third book on this creative drawing process, Yoga for your Brain, introduces readers to 60 new tangles that are broken down into easy-to-follow steps, and include beautiful zendalas, curvaceous lines, nature-inspired tangles, paisleys, circles, flowers, snowflakes and richly shaded layers.

The author shares some of her creative inspirations as well as other ways to utilize the beautiful art of Zentangle®. Artists will be inspired to turn their little works of art into prints, transfers, journal pages, and to appy them to other surfaces, like stones. The seemingly complex, intricate examples of the author's work will inspire readers to try their hand at this fun and therapeutic craft, which just starts with one line of ink.

Unlike doodling, the relaxed, repetitive pattern style of Zentangle® awakens practitioners' ability to really see their surroundings. They begin to notice new tangles everywhere: a column on a building, a light fixture, even a common kitchen tool. Their world takes on a whole new perspective, which explains why Zentangle® has become so popular among crafters, artists and even people who never dreamed they could draw.
