Kay Sullivan Lynch, reinstated to the Chicago Police Department after two years as a widowed mom of four, not only plans to excel on the force, but to show her brothers--who opposed her return to "the job'' that she's up to the challenge.

Captain Flynn Dowd, battling demons of his own, empathizes with Kay's struggles--but Sidewalk Santas collecting for the hungry are dropping dead all over Chicago. No apparent motive, no identifiable MO. It's up to Kay and Flynn to stop the "Santa Slayer."

Kay Sullivan Lynch has been a widow for 2 years. She's worked really hard to get re-instated to the Chicago Police Department. She's learning to balance her job with her home life. But she knows it's time to start living again.

She hadn't counted on Captain Flynn Dowd, tall, dark and handsome, sexy as sin. He, too, has lost people he loved .. his wife and son. So he's very much sensitive to Kay's needs.

They are immediately attracted to each other .. at the worst possible time. Someone is killing Sidewalk Santa Clauses and that's taking up a lot of their time. Kay's son is not thrilled with the fact that Flynn has been making eyes at his mother. He feels that his mother's reactions betray his father's memory.

They are working non-stop to catch the serial killer, and when Flynn dons a Santa suit and beard to go undercover, Kay is fearful of something happening to him and she's not sure she can handle a loss of someone she loves.

This is a terrific Romantic Suspense .... it's mainly romance with a little suspense thrown in. It's a feel-good story with family dynamics, love & loss, and seeing a bright future ahead. This would be a great book to read around the Christmas holidays.

How could anyone not like these characters .. full of fun, joy, and small instances of sibling rivalry. Highly recommended for anyone who likes Romantic Suspense.

I chose to read a digital copy of IN THE NICK OF TIME. All opinions expressed are my own and unbiased.

Santa's are dropping dead at an alarming rate and Kay a widowed mother of four begins too suspect foul play. She's newly back on the force after losing her husband and dealing with her boss who happens to be her brother and is beginning a new romance with a coworker. This was a good short romantic suspense that was more romance then suspense. I would have liked more suspense but if you're a romance lover you'll probably disagree.
