Description
Hired as the town’s school teacher, Maria O’Donnell and her sister Abigail arrive in the Colorado Territory in 1875, only to find the uncle they were to stay with has been murdered.
Rancher Tye Ashmore is content with life until he meets quiet and beautiful Maria. He falls in love at first sight, but her reluctance to jeopardize her teaching position by accepting his marriage proposal only makes him more determined to make her part of his life.
When their lives are threatened by gunshots and a gunnysack of dangerous wildlife, Tye believes he is the target of an unknown enemy. Not until Maria receives written threats urging her to leave does she realize she is the target instead of the handsome rancher.
With the help of Tye, Abigail, and a wily Indian called Two Bears, Maria works to uncover her uncle’s killer and put aside her fears. But will she discover happiness and true love under Colorado’s starry skies?

2 sisters journey out west to be with family who they discover deceased. These 2 feisty females follow their hearts to make a future one as a schoolteacher who falls in love with Tye and the other , Abigail, to find her own path. This was the first book I've read by this author and really enjoyed the setting and the characters.
Ebook from Netgalley and publishers with thanks. Did purchase my own copy. Opinions are entirely my own.
Under Starry Skies is about two sisters who head to the Colorado Territory in 1875 to live with their uncle. The sisters are very different. Abigail is more confident and determined whereas Maria is more reserved. Abigail hires Tye Ashmore to drive their flatboat to their new home. He is a rancher who lives in the same community they are headed to. He is quickly smitten with Maria who is going to be the new school teacher. The sisters soon learn their uncle has been murdered and they find their aunt is less than happy to see them. Despite that, each sister begins to settle themselves into their new community. Maria excels as the new school teacher. She also finds she is needed to teach some of the adults in the community to read as well. Tye begins to court Maria but during their courtship they are met with some challenges in the form of gunshots and rattlesnakes.
Under Starry Skies is packed with romance, suspense and action. It was a book that kept me engaged and had some humor to it which I greatly enjoyed. The characters were entertaining as well.
