Okay, so I knew getting into reading Animal Planet's Baby Animals that there was going to be much cooing and squeeing from me. I just didn't know exactly how much. Turns out, there was quite a lot. Baby Animals is the next entry into the awesome Animal Bites series from Animal Planet that aims to educate young readers about the cool things in nature around them.

Each book (Animal Babies is no exception) lays things out in simple terms, is jam-packed with lots of high-quality pictures, and is intensely engaging. Well put together, well thought out, and educational as well as just being absolutely adorable, the whole series is a must-read.

Cutest Baby: Baby Red Panda

Coolest Fact: That there are front and rear facing pouches! I would have thought they were all front-facing. (Makes total sense that they aren't, but lets just hope the rear-facing pouchers don't have gassy mommas!)

I'm glad they included: The Buddy System. It introduces young readers the proper adoption process for getting a family pet. One that begins with researching the right animal for your family.

Overall, Animal Planet Animal Babies is a worthy entry into the Animal Bites series!

I was captivated from beginning to end and my son loved it!
Magnificent book, fantastic photographs that will cause you emotion and expressions of tenderness, Ahhh, of laughter, of surprise ...
Puppies and baby animals look so funny, but the best thing is that they are photographed in their natural environment. It's a lovely book for kids to learn about how baby animals grow and learn. What I consider relevant are the facts about the interaction of animals with humans and the efforts of some centers to protect species and to preserve their habitats.
I found very useful that the author makes a comparison of the behaviors of the animals with behaviors of children, that may generate a very valuable approach to sensitize them to observe that the animals are intelligent and sensitive beings.
I recommend this book to astonish us along with our little ones of the wonders of life on our planet and to foster a culture of respect for wildlife and ecosystems; It can also be part of an education that shows the children that we can both appreciate and love all the creatures with whom we share the planet.
My gratitude to the Publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to review the book

This book is exactly as the series says, Animal Bites. There are so many facts in this book that something will draw in any reader. This book describes various animal species family life. It talks about live and egg birth, how long babies stay with their parents, what they eat, where they live, how they travel and more. The photos in this book are amazing. They are so close you feel like you can touch the animals. The special sections on the side that include cool animal facts, simple infographics, and illustrated maps of the Earth and the habitats as well as the short bits on "All Grown Up" are sure to invite discussion and further investigation. They even have bits on "Just like Humans" where they show how human families interact in some of the various topics. The back of the book includes activities, further resources and an extensive Glossary. I love that a portion of the proceeds will benefit Animal Planet's R.O.A.R. (Reach Out. Act. Respond.) project which partners with leading animal organization to make the world a better place for domestic and wild animals.

This book would be a great addition to a school or class library, especially those learning about animal species, habitats, and even families.

Baby animals! What’s not to love? Seriously, this is a wonderful book for kids, but adults will enjoy the incredible photography as well.

Every single page of this book is chock full of beautiful pictures and educational text that tells kids some amazing facts about the animals. For example, did you know that opossum babies are the size of a bee when they are born and that they live in their mother’s pouch for about three months? Or that giraffes spend up to 20 hours on their feet a day? There are facts like these sprinkled all throughout this book. As you admire the stunning photos, you will learn a little bit about each animal. What could be better?

What kinds of animals will you find here? A lot of books focus on baby mammals since they tend to be charming, but this book features them all. You will learn about baby mammals, birds, insects, spiders, fish, marine mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and more!

There are handy color-coded tabs that organize the book. A sampling of the tabbed subjects is as follows: how they grow, where they live, how they live, animal gallery, living/working and more. If you want to learn about a particular species, follow the yellow tabs, which give you a closeup look at a species.

There are side boxes called Info Bites that give detailed facts about an animal, such as its name, the type of animal, where it lives, and a cool fact about that animal. There are also inset boxes that ask funny questions that will appeal to the younger readers. For example, would a red panda be “sleepover-worthy?” The answer is given next to the question and each answer helps the reader understand more about the animal. For example, in this case, it says that red pandas sleep half the day in slippery trees. These insets make the learning fun and are in eye-catching colors to attract the reader’s eyes.

Full-page color photos are fun to look at and many have callout boxes to show various interesting features of the animal. Such as the “panda thumb” or the teeth that the red panda uses for chewing bamboo.

The “Vista” sections show a full two-page photo spread of a particular animal. You get to see that animal in its natural habitat, engaged in its normal behaviors. Any one of these photos would certainly be poster worthy.

Overall, I liked the design and layout of the book. The text is short and easy for young readers. The facts are clear and indicated in a manner that will help readers retain the information. I did find one mistake in the book. There is a photo on page 45 that indicates it is a baby bobcat, but the photo actually shows a baby mountain lion. For a book of this scope, with the number of photos that had to be correctly identified, I think that one error is nothing to be concerned about. It’s a great book and has very high quality layout, so I am not complaining.

Of course, there’s no denying the universal appeal of baby animals! That will make this book an instant favorite. It was a thoroughly enjoyable book and I recommend it.

I’d like to thank the publisher, author and NetGalley for providing an advance reader copy in exchange for my honest review.

Animal Planet Baby Animals by Animal Planet is an adorable book for kids of all ages! (Adults too!) It covers a variety of babies from the animal kingdom doing things baby animals do. The images are amazing, clear, and so fun. Most pages have more than 2 pictures on them. Lots of info is included, little tidbits are added tastefully here and there without being cluttered. Very well organized. Colorful, bright, and informative. The incredible images and great info is a big winner! A must have for the kid that has everything. Thanks NetGalley and the Publisher of this book for allowing me to read this astounding animal treasure!
