A beautiful book. A brave young girl gives her parents a second chance. The story was so well portrayed following an emotional journey. Really lovely book but have some tissues

This book will stay with me for a long time, it was so sad and beautifully written, I really enjoyed reading it.

This book really tugs on the heartstrings and stays with you. Rosie and Nate had the perfect relationship, totally in love with each other and their life together. A baby will just cement their relationship. But Emmie is suffering from an inoperable brain tumour and this book explores the world that no one wants to enter. You feel the total anguish, the toll it takes on everyone including close friends, the medical world that you never wanted to learn about. Emmie is a wonderful little girl who wants to bring a little happiness back into her parents life and see the smiles she sees in photographs back on their faces.

I had tears in my eyes reading her plans with the counsellor who sounded quite dreamy! The characters are all wonderful- Emmie has a lovely little friend and Rosie has a great sister. I also loved Ella’s writing style and this is the second book I’ve read and loved.

A lovely, touching book, which I enjoyed so much. While the subject matter might sound very sad, the book is actually uplifting and a pleasure to read. All of the characters were people that you would care about and want things to work out well for. Beautifully written and very engrossing. Highly recommended.

It's every parent's worst nightmare to be told, with heart-breaking honesty, that your precious child is facing a terminal illness. For Rosie and Nate this becomes the reality of their lives, and even though they realise that every single second spent with Emmie is precious, they also have to get on with daily life. But this is never going to be easy because as Emmie grows she is determined to live what remains of her life in her own inimitable fashion. However, it must also be said that Rosie and Nate live in the shadow of Emmie's illness every single day, and they find to their cost that even the best of marriages can falter when confronted with such a huge emotional hurdle.

I thought the story of a family facing such a crisis was handled really sensitively, and what could have developed into a mawkish and overly sentimental tale soon became filled with the strength and purpose of a remarkable child who was determined to do everything she could to leave her own lasting legacy in order to keep her parents together. I really enjoyed watching Emmie's character progress, she is feisty, intelligent, with a maturity beyond her tender years, and I think that the author perfectly captures the fear and also the emotion of living with such a challenging prognosis.

Rosie and Nate could be any parent living with a such nightmare and their own fierce determination to allow Emmie the chance to be herself, meant that unfortunately, that they lost sight of what was really important to them as a couple.

The book is both happy and sad in equal measure. There are some nice touches of light and shade and I think that the author has succeeded in creating some powerful characters who really make a difference to the story. Doctor Tom is a delightful character, and I would hope that all NHS hospitals have counsellors like him, who with sympathetic consideration really helped to make a difference.

I finished the book with a whopping big lump in my throat but with joy in my heart for a story well told.

I was rather intrigued when reading the description of this book, it was seemingly a non sad, sad story! I wasnt entirely how convinced I was that the author Ella Harper would be able to stop it from becomming too maudlin, after all its about a young girl having an inoperable brain tumour. However I stand corrected, this story isnt about making the main character Emmie a victim it was about maming her a heroine and somebody to be admired.
I wont give the story away but you wont regret reading this book. I smiled and had tears in my eyes at the same time more than once!

A heart wrenching but also heart warming story that made me feel extremely grateful for my family.
I loved this story, it was great how it was told from Rosie, Nate and Emmie's perspective. This story follows Rosie and Nate as they try to come to terms with the fact that very soon their daughter Emmie will die, they are in pieces about this yet Emmie isn't scared she is more worried about her mum and dad falling apart. Can she fix them before she goes ?

I really enjoyed this book. Tears were in my eyes at many parts but the story of a family facing an unimaginable dilemma was inspirational. It makes you appreciate your own life.

Rosie and Nate are parents to Emmie who has incurable cancer. This tests them on all levels and puts their relationship to the test. Caring for their daughter is tearing them apart.

Emmie is determined to bring them back together by reminding them of the love they shared and what had brought them together. Emmie shows maturity by being strong and putting her parents happiness as her priority.

I really enjoyed this book my first by Ella Harpur and it won't be my last.

Emmie, who is eleven, has terminal cancer, she’s known for a while that she is going to die. Her parents are struggling to cope with her diagnosis and it’s tearing their marriage apart. Emmie thinks it is her fault because she has cancer.

Emmie has a new therapist, Dr. Tom, who she discusses her feelings with, about her death, her funeral and the fact that her cancer is causing problems within her parent’s marriage. They set out to show her parents, Rosie and Nate how they fell in love with each other.

This is a powerful story, it shows how a couple can fall apart but in the end love conquers all. It was a terribly sad story, I was hoping for a different ending the whole time and although the ending was not what I wanted, it was still a great book that moved me to tears.

Emmie was only five years old when her parents were told that all the chemotherapy and radiotherapy that their child had been through hadn't worked and she now had an inoperable brain tumour.
Emmie is now eleven years old and every minute of everyday her parents are expecting the phone call that says the brain tumour has grown enough to end their daughter's life. Emmie is worried too,she's worried that her parents will not stay together after she is gone. Emmie is going to do something about it.
Yes,this book is very sad and I cried at the end. This book probably mirrors what lots of parents are going through right now.
The story is told through the voices of Rosie,Nate and Emmie. Rosie feels she can't speak to Nate anymore and Nate feels the same about her. There are so many misunderstandings between them that make matters worse and I wanted to get them both together and bang their heads.
Rosie has a lovely twin sister, Lily, who is everything a sister should be and it's a pleasant change to read about sisters who get on with each other. Nate is a policeman and he confides in his partner Gill who is so supportive to him.
Along the way we meet Dr Tom who is Emmie's new counsellor. She feels at ease with him from the beginning and he is able to help her in her quest.
I don't want to tell you anything more about this story apart from advising you to have a box of tissues at the ready. I can see this book being made into a film. Although it's a sad subject it has a feel good factor about it. The way Emmie dealt with her diagnosis and how lovely the other characters in the book were. They were all people you would welcome into your life.

Wonderful, heart-breaking and poignant. The novel introduces us to the inevitability of death and what the thought of losing our loved ones can do to us. The emotions were so powerfully described, it was as though you were living them.The story touched me to the core with its deeply moving plot,beautiful characters and a unique, inspiring and insightful plot.

A passionate story which you know will end in tragedy but you just have to keep reading. Beautifully written with compassion. very thought provoking.

This book was heartbreaking but beautiful. You have such a harrowing story of a young girl who has a inoperable tumor, but while terminal she isn't wallowing in her diagnosis. Her focus is one getting her parents to fall in love all over again after they have lost focus on their relationship while worrying about her care.

It really makes you think how you may handle the same situation. How would you cope? How would you live knowing that you had a limited amount of time left?

Emmie the young girl was adorably sweet, full of energy and selfless. Such a joy to read, while holding back tears.

Very moving story about loss and the endurance of love. A powerful novel that will touch your heart.

One Last Wish is an extremely "ugly cry" and would be best among great books such as If I Stay, Everything Everything and The Fault in Our Stars.

One Last Wish was a great book which from the first few pages you know will end in tragedy but still you are drawn to read to the end. I loved it and will be looking for more books by Ella.

Gruelling. That's all I can say. But I couldn't stop reading, even though it tugged at my heartstrings and made me gather my own daughter to me and hold her tight, and I thanked my lucky stars that she is healthy.

The worst thing that can happen to a parent is the death of a child. Whether suddenly, or long and drawn out, whether by accident or intent or disease, it really doesn’t matter, but Ms XXX skilfully illustrates the issues of relatively imminent death from a terminal tumour, and how the child and the parents cope (or don’t cope) in the face of such catastrophic events.

God, I felt for them! I really did. It broke my heart and made me cry (I must stop reading these type of books – I’m becoming an emotional mess!), and I have a feeling this book will stay with me for a long time.

An emotional story - how could it not be after a child is diagnosed as terminally ill ! A roller coaster of a read with a wonderful twist at the end.

When Rosie and Nate's daughter Emmie is diagnosed with incurable cancer they are obviously devastated and like many parents try to work through it without any idea how. Emmie however seems to accept the diagnosis better than her parents and her major concern is how they are reacting

Emmie is concerned that the way they are each coping is pulling them apart rather than together and so she devises a plan to bring them back together so that when she is gone they will not be alone but will remember the love that they had for each other.

Although a very emotional book it had lighter moments as well and such great characters it is one of those books that stay with y0u long after you have finished reading it

This is a heart wrenching read, so be warned!
Emmie has an inoperable brain tumour and after lots of treatment decides she doesn't want anymore and the specialists agree with her even if she is only a child. Emmies parents Rosie and Nate struggle to resume normal life and find themselves drifting apart from all the stress and emotional turmoil they are both in and this has a negative affect on Emmie. The book is well written and I liked the alternating chapters that are seen from each of the 3 main characters viewpoint. This was an emotional read but as much as I did have a few tears there were some funny moments so it was broken up well. I shall be reading a lighter read next to get over this book.

This tells the story of Emmie - a little girl living with an inoperable brain tumour. For every parent, this would be your worst ever nightmare to face - for Rose and Nate this is their living, breathing nightmare. Emmie has decided to live each day as normally as possible and goes back to school and carries on.
So live goes on for them all - although every day for rose and Nate comes with the usual fear of Emmie dying.
This story however does not so much focus on the little girl and her tumour but the family dynamics and how they have changed since her diagnosis. Emmie realises how sad her parents have become and sets to work (along with the dashing Dr Tom, the counsellor) to do something about it before she passes away.
This story is so much more than a sad tale - it is heartwarming and lovely and for that reason it choked me up at times. It is so beautfully told! 5* for me!

This was a beautifully written insight into an impossible situation. The characters were many layered and believable and I truly felt their anguish. A sad book but inspirational.

What a thought provoking book, I was totally engrossed from start to finish and what a brave little girl. I cried bucket loads at the end
