Description

Thirty-something, Cecelia Laramie, strives for excellence like the other housewives in her quiet suburban neighborhood. Cece’s a bit eccentric with her elaborate doll collection and bouts of OCD, so when she finds out her well-to-do husband is misbehaving, she decides to nip it in the bud—with a baseball bat.

Getting revenge on her husband for his indiscretions becomes Cece’s newest obsession, but when another jilted housewife joins her cause, things go awry. Cece’s cutthroat accomplice pushes her to commit crimes throughout Manhattan, sabotaging her husband’s real estate business. When her counterpart introduces deadly weapons into the mix, Cece knows she's in over her head.

Pretty Dolls and Hand Grenades is a brilliantly crafted, unputdownable, complex thriller. I was captivated from the very first page.

Cece Laramie’s life was spinning out of control. Her perfect family was disintegrating. Cece caught her husband, Mitchell, cheating on her; anorexia was stealing her daughter’s life and her loner son was obsessed with weapons and terrorism.

Cece was fighting to keep her OCD from taking over her life. She didn’t want to become like her impossible, crazy mother. But, she was rapidly losing that battle. Her OCD was spinning out of control, blinding migraines were crippling her, and all she could think of was getting revenge. Cece wanted her old life back, but first, she wanted Mitchell and his playmate, Kate, to suffer.

Cece figured that Dinah, her new Russian friend, was probably a psychopath. She was cold, calculating and downright scary. She promised Cece that if she followed her instructions, Mitchell and Kate would get their comeuppance. Cece was petrified carrying out the things Dinah was mandating her to do, but crossing the Russian mastermind wasn’t a comforting option, either. Cece sincerely hoped that prison time wasn’t in her future.

Pretty Dolls and Hand Grenades is a cleverly written, character-driven, edge-of-the-seat psychological thriller. If you enjoyed Gone Girl, you’re going to devour this novel. I can’t wait to read more by this talented author. This book gets 5 shining stars from me.

Thank you, Wild Rose Press and NetGalley, for my advanced review copy. I loved it!

This was a good read with likeable characters.  Little bit slow in places but still a good read. Although I didn't see that coming.  4*.
