Description

The Sermon on the Mount, one of the most influential portions of the Bible, is the most studied and commented upon portion of the Christian Scriptures. Every Christian generation turns to it for insight and guidance.

In this volume, a recognized expert on the Gospels shows that the Sermon on the Mount offers a clear window into understanding God's work in Christ. This is a great resource for preachers wanting to know how to connect the sermon the mount to the lives of those they are ministering to. The key motif used throughout is the theme of flourishing - the awareness that the sermon offers a shape of living that enables humans to live fully and fruitfully. The book introduces the themes well - with careful attention being given to key terms and disputed areas. A close exposition section follows that allows you to get to grips with each of the sections of the sermon.
I found the book to be rich in insight, helpful to broaden your grasp of the text, and a catalyst to thinking about how to re-present material that is often a well-worn path for many congregations.
