We are a homeschool family, so my children will love doing some of these labs along with their schoolwork. I've always loved collecting rocks and have passed on this love to my children.
Geology Lab for Kids included photos with to help explain each lab. The labs are separated into topics that include crystals, sediments, space rocks, as well as others. Each section includes a group of labs to help the student learn about each topic in a hands-on way. There are many edible labs included, as well as non-edible ones. I can't wait to do some of these with my children. I may have more fun doing them than the kids!

Cool experiments to entertain kids--whether they be future scientists or not.

A fun book full of easy sciences projects for kids and parents. My galley was optimized for digital reading, which was nice, but I would like to see the full pages. It comes across with lots of white space, and makes it seem blank.

Geology Lab for Kids by Garret Romaine is one of a series of titles (from different authors) all released by Quarry Books. The 'Lab for Kids' books have various fun and instructional exercises aimed at a younger audience.

This particular book has 52 fun projects which are arranged thematically in units. Kids can learn about crystals, geodes, different types of rock (sedimentary, igneous, metamorphic), fossils, metals, space rocks and more. I'm something of a science fanatic (admittedly more of a bionerd) and I learned a fair bit from this book. (It's been some *cough* decades since my last earth science class).

I even learned two Hawaiian words for lava "aa (pronounced “ah-ah”) and pahoehoe (pronounced
“pa-hoy-hoy”)" from the introduction.

I can see this book being quite useful for an introductory earth science lab or as a homeschooling resource. The photography is beautiful and the experiments are fun and interesting and each one includes a conclusion with questions and the "science behind the fun".

It's also worth noting that each exercise includes a safety section.

Classic as well as new experiments featured in this book include easy to follow directions with clear pictures and information about rocks and minerals. If you're looking for some fun while learning a thing or two about geology I recommend this for you. 5 Stars

I got excited when I started reading this book. So many exciting and happy memories around rock collecting, and identifying the type.
This book has 52 projects you can do, which just so happens to match the number of weeks we have in a year. How about that? Turn of the devices at home and go exploring. Make some experiments in the house. You will have so much to talk about later. Your family will treasure these times like I do

Geology Lab for Kids is a great resource for classrooms, homeschooling families, and kids that just love science and experiments. The photography and explanations of the experiments are very well done, accessible to young readers and the adults by their side. In the book there is information that will help readers identify the most common rocks and minerals, maintain and display a rock collection, understand insects are trapped and preserved in amber, understand how geysers and volcanoes form and erupt, understand how layers of rock reveal a record of time, and how to pan for gold like a real prospector. The activities are creative and fun, including some edible (and plenty on inedible) experiments and projects. I think that this is a perfect resource for getting children excited and engaged in science.

First impression flipping through this book was that it had a lot of pictures to reference, which is great because it makes it easier for a child to see what they're doing in the experiments/projects. Upon actually reading the book, I fell in love with it even more because of not only the easy-to-follow instructions but also all of the additional content that includes facts, conclusions and questions after.

As a homeschooling mother, I can see this book being a great hands-on book that could be a nice introduction to earth science – or even just fun projects to add along to your curriculum, which would be easy to incorporate considering the book is divided into topics. Not all labs are created the same, you have quite a variety – including edible labs!

This book isn't just great for parents and teachers, the incredible information included in this book is sure to wrangle in kids who love science quite easily.

Loved this book! The experiments were simple and AMAZING! My nieces n nephews loved every bit of it!
