This book is packed full of information about teeth - I learned a lot reading it, and there was much more information than I imagined it possible to compile together just about teeth. This is a fascinating read!

Dental health is SUCH an important topic for anyone, and especially young children who are learning to look after their teeth. This book covers pertinent topics including what their teeth are for, how to look after and clean them, and even what to expect at a dental check-up. This is really useful as some people have a fear of the dentist, and this helps to normalise the experience and prepare them in advance.

There are plenty of other topics, such as teeth in animals, dentistry over the years, and even nutrition. Who would have thought you could put together so much information about teeth!

I'm not sure which age range this book is targeted at, but I'd imagine the older primary years. I was a little sad to see the tooth fairy myth de-bunked, as there are some young people that will still hold on to this belief, so that's a shame! Otherwise, this book is packed full of bright images and photos, plenty of relevant text, and a whole wealth of useful sub-topics.

Open Wide is a bull full to to the brim with information on teeth, how to clean them, what foods to eat, about animal teeth, braces and the list goes on. I was quite surprised at just how much information was in the book and liked that there is a balance between the serious side teeth and the fun side such as brushing your teeth in space.

One of the most positive parts of the book is the 'when you see a dentist'page. It is very thorough and would assist with relieving an anxiety that a person may have. Knowing what to expect can make dentist visits so much nicer.

Depending on the age of the child reading this book, I recommend this book being read by parent and child together. I suggest this because pages such as those showing dentistry tools is both great and a little scary. Great because it gives children insight in what to expect at the dentist, but it may also scare some of them. Being able to talk through those types of pages as parent and child (or adult and child) would help diminish any fears.

This book gets a big tick of approval for being informative.
