Description

Their first mistake? Kidnapping her lover. Their second? Thinking she wouldn’t do something about it.

The black-ops government agency known as Sigma has shattered the resistance, destroyed its infrastructure, and taken its best operative captive. It’s about as bad as it can get, but Sigma’s forgotten one thing: Rowan Price.

Rowan is no longer a civilian in the shadow war. Her talents are fully trained, and she’s become something she never dreamed of—a cool, clinical, lethal psionic operative. Working as Henderson’s second-in-command, she’s utterly focused on two things: repairing the Society’s infrastructure and rescuing Justin Delgado. Yet under her shell of calm and gentleness, her rage is simmering . . . and it’s about to break loose.

Delgado knows he can’t remember something important. He puts up with Sigma’s beatings and questioning, the pain and the torture. Sigma keeps asking him the same question—where is Rowan Price? He doesn't know who this woman is or where she is, but if he can escape Sigma one more time, he’s damn sure going to find out. Because Price, whoever she is, holds the key to his fractured memories and destroyed soul.

But first, he has to get out. Then he’ll find Rowan Price.

Unfortunately, that may be the one thing Sigma’s counting on.

This is the second book in this series and whilst it can be read as a standalone I recommend reading book one first as it sets the scene .

Sigma , the black-ops government agency has dealt a massive blow to the Resistance ....... they are scrambling to consolidate their resources and personnel ............one of their own is missing , presumed captured .
Rowan's talents are now fully trained, and she is become something she never dreamed of a cool, clinical, lethal psionic operative.... BUT she feels that a part of herself is missing , she is losing her focus .
Delgado , held captive by Sigma , is being constantly beaten and tortured - reintroduced to Yed , a drug that is highly addictive ...... they keep asking 'WHERE IS ROWAN PRICE' , he does not know what they are talking about . All he knows is that he must escape and try to find this Rowan Price and warn her about Sigma .
To help re-finance the Resistances infrastructure she reluctantly agrees to go to Las Vegas and play the tables , but finds that Sigma is on her trail - Delgado is one of her trackers !!.
On seeing her and hearing her voice he realises that he has built a wall in his mind to hide all information about Rowan and the Resistance = he breaks free of his constraints and helps Rowan escape the trap .
Sigma are determined to capture them and wipe out the Resistance once and for all - so set a notorious tracker and his minder on their trail .
The resistance must use all their skills and ingenuity to evade them and decide that NOW is the time to take the fight to Sigma , rather than fight a rear-guard defense .

A well written paranormal thriller , the fast paced plot twist and turns with unpredictable results .

My Thoughts - 4 out of 5 Unicorns - I really liked it!!!
***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!! Yes, I got a review copy of this book, but no one tells me what to think, feel, or write about any book!

The cover is very nice with that washboard!

This is the 2nd book in the series, and it is for adults only due to the violence. This is my first time reading Lilith’s work, and I definitely liked it! I haven’t read book 1 yet, but I had no trouble with picking up this book and understanding what was going on.

This is definitely an interesting world! Some people are gifted with psychic abilities, and a government agency is using and enslaving those with abilities through nefarious means. Whenever you have people being exploited, there are people who rise up to fight for those who are being exploited. Rowan is part of the group fighting the good fight. I really like her because she has inner strength that is amazing considering all of the things that have happened to her. Justin or Del is amazing, and he doesn’t even realize it. Together they make a great pair, but they bad guys are trying to get them both! This is an action packed adventure!

I recommend this book to all readers who believe in psychic powers and fighting for what you believe in because it is an awesome adventure! Can’t wait to check out more of Lilith’s work in the future!

Hunter, Healer is the second - and currently, last - book in the Society series. Reading book 1, The Society is a must for understanding the plot and characters though. The series is more of a paranormal thriller with a side of romance than a romance with a thriller plot.

But, it is emotionally gripping, I suspect at least partly because Del (Justin/Delgado) is exactly my kind of catnip. I read the books back to back, so my thoughts about Hunter, Healer are heavily influenced by my thoughts about The Society, and Del is about as broken as you can get. He's been tortured, forcibly addicted, forced into a slavery where he was also forced to kill to survive. He's not exactly in the best of headspaces, even now out of that slavery and living a life saving others from it.

And enter Rowan, who he is made to pair up with. Or rather, he's desperate to pair up with her and told to at the same time. But, at the end of The Society, Del is right back where he started: trapped in slavery. And Rowan is left behind, hating the government agency doing this and desperate to save Del.

If The Society was more Del's book, then Hunter, Healer is more Rowan's book. And Rowan is... something of a Mary Sue character. In the world of psions, she's pretty hefty weight. She's off the charts powerful (but was never found by the baddies). Unlike most psions, she is also capable of several things. She can heal bodies, and mostly heal minds. She has some small pre-cognition abilities. She's a strong and projective empath. She can negate or heal addiction. But best of all, she and Del can merge minds without pain; that's a big deal because he can enter minds but it always hurts him and the other person. She is also the glue that holds everything else together.

That's not to say that I didn't like Rowan. Despite the Mary Sue aspects, I liked her. She's gentle and vulnerable. She's mad and kick ass. She works hard and thinks of others. She loves Del and she is determined to save him.

The action is pretty much non-stop but seeing it through the eyes of both Del and Rowan and seeing how they feel makes it feel a little less break-neck. I really enjoyed the wild ride. I'm just sorry the story seems to be over. I'd love to see more books set in this universe.
