"I hate to spoil the ending
but You is fine
You is still here
You is going to make it"

I like how each section is labeled on what you are feeling right now and what mood you are in when you read it. I have always wished there were poems books that were like this because it would be so helpful. . . and now I found one.

Some of the poems were too straight forward for my taste and I was not a fan of all of them. This was actually my only main problem the whole time I was reading it. But there were ones that really touched me (lliterally one tear drop down my eye type) and I liked how the poems are not just thrown together and there is actually some find of flow to it in each section if you pay attention to it enough. A lot are pretty much related in a way. If ever the reader gets to reading everything.

"Be you, when its hard."

The bluntness of this is not all bad because it actually tells the readers straight up what the author thinks and feels. It does not sugarcoat anything, especially the topics here that really matters (loneliness, heartbreak). This is what I interpreted from it though. And that last poem. . . pure. Just, pure love.

Poems are always your own interpretation of what you are reading. . . practically all books are.

And can I just say. . . the jellyfishes. are so cute. they stole me and sold me into reading this and finishing it. And that metaphor? The jellyfish tends to hurt everyone, but inside, they are soft creatures.

As the book said, you just have to have people with the same heart as you.

This is definitely a book I would go back to again and again.

"But all I was trying to do,
was show you that even a monster can be loved"

Peppernell's poetry dwells on many emotions like love, heartbreak, longing and loneliness. I quite enjoyed it as a reader of contemporary poetry. The book is inspirational and touching.

You remind me of home,
of all the simple things in life,
of light and love and the reasons I am not alone.
You remind me of hope,
of the sea and the sky,
every hug and every kiss from your lips to thighs.
I have flown around the world and met no one like you
because you are all the things that I keep coming back to.

A beautiful collection, and one that I could envisage picking up and dipping into at a variety of moments, this little gem of a book speaks to anyone who has loved, lost or longed for someone. In a mix of poetry and prose Courtney Peppernell bares her soul in a way that is immediately recognisable to the reader, and I defy anyone not to be moved by her beautiful words.

I love the cover. It's simplistic but very striking. I liked that you could dip in and out whenever the mood took you, and the way the poems were arranged made it easy to select specific ones.
I enjoyed the second half of poems more than the first, but in all honest I really liked most of them. I haven't read many modern poems, but this has definitely ignited a new interest.

Spellbinding, enriching, magnificent, and lovely. I felt myself engaging with her word and every emotion.

"I have been a little off balance since the day I met you. This is because I had never known what it was like to be perfectly aligned."

These poems made my heart sing, my soul weep, and my love for poetry grow. The raw emotion was palpable as I read through each section. The one section that really hit home for me was, "If you need a reason to stay." As someone that has depression and anxiety, these poems described what's going on in my head in ways that I've never been able to articulate. I would recommend this book to every girl or boy that's ever been in love, has ever been heartbroken, loves poetry, or just needs something to read. These poems will stay with you long after you finish the book.

"I never expected you to get under my skin, but now your name runs through my veins and I can't help but let every part of you in."

"I have been a little off balance since the day I met you. This is because I had never known what it is to be perfectly aligned."

The poems are divided into sections on what you needed to hear. I loved the self-help part but I can also relate to the relationship based poems especially the one for the broken hearted.

"in the end
we
as in you and me
were never
meant to be"

I'm still lost right now and this book made my soul weep for hours and left me with a lot of questions to myself. Enriching and simply beautiful.

"You are a battlefield. Never will there be a greater war than the one you hold with yourself"

Rating this was hard. I'd like too give this two different ratings, where some of the poems get 2/5 stars but some are strong 4/5 stars. Let me explain.

I almost DNFed this after 20 or so pages, because the beginning just didn't interest me at all. The metaphors felt poorly executed and the poems had the feel of inspirational quotes you find online. I also had difficulties understanding the structure and to find a story within the poems. They kind of felt like randomly put together diary entries. BUT THEN, the last part! Maybe it had to do with the themes, that they resonated more with me, but they were actually really beautiful. The last part saved this collection for me.

I'd recommend it if you're in love, or heartbroken, or just a little lost.

3/5 stars.

I discovered this book by chance and now I want to read every book that Courtney has ever published.

You could taste the overflowing emotions, the pain, the happiness, the longing and love. I really did enjoy reading it, and getting to know the person that wrote those poems, exposing herself out for everyone to judge and see. The fact that the author shared so intimate thoughts about people she was in love with and the pain she has gone through and the happiness that little things in life could give you is really admirable and I could relate to that.

The book is divided into sections, a touch I found to be lovely.

Here are some of the poems that stuck me the most:

"I hate to spoil the ending
but You is fine
You is still here
You is going to make it"

"I have been a little off balance since the day I met you. This is because I had never known what it was like to be perfectly aligned."

''Here are some nice things: warm nights after the rain, old books, new books, tea in the afternoon, snow angels, palm trees, smiling, laughing, hugs that make you feel like you are combusting, we-nose kisses from your dog, waterfalls, sunsets, a clear night sky, the hopes and dreams of you and me. A kitten curled in you lap, fresh laundry, favorite songs, the morning birds in perfect harmony. Nice simple things to remind you to stay.''

(from my Goodreads review)

Pillow Talk is a poetry book for young lovers. Its a collections of poems of young girls laughing and drunk in the intoxication of initial new love while on a sunny beach with an endless summer ahead of them. It is of all young girls laying in bed and dwelling over a smartphone; obsessing with old photos and text of lost or betrayed lovers. It is of young souls missing the love in their lives and isolated while surrounded by people everywhere. It is a maelstrom of every shade of passion and positivity that a young woman is confident of and preaches for all to hear. And it is her confused and doubt when that confidence is lost. All these poems seem written on worn notebooks of doodled page tears and colour.. and transferred into a published collection for others to encounter and witness.

And the best part is that it is all written and expressed very well. It’s nicely satisfying to see this much depth from a writer so young and not ancient with age (full of old love, pain, experience and goodbyes). Kudos for Courtney Peppernell for conveying such depth of feeling of lesbian love, loss and support. Proving to the world that we all feel the same way about the affairs of the heart, no matter your age or orientation. The artwork is cute too!

I loved that this book is divided into sections with different themes. There's a section for if you're lonely. Another for if you need a reason to stay. One for if you're sad. While not all of the sections resonated with me, reading this book did, overall, feel like sipping a mug of hot tea. It was warm and encouraging and comforting. It was like flannel sheets and an afternoon snuggle on a rainy grey day. Read it if you feel alone, feel sad or are in need of comforting. Choose the section of the book that you feel applies best and settle in. This book won't make the bad things disappear, but it may just give you hope for the future.

Thank you Netgalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for allowing me to read this ARC. This collection of poetry is being published August 29, 2017. I am going to pick myself up a copy when it is released.

Pillow Thoughts is a collection of poetry. This collection is uniquely divided into section for however you are feeling. The poems are beautiful and so relatable, I found. Every section hows its unique poems and no poem is the same. I bookmarked many pages to go back into to reread because they are so true to how I am feeling right now. I think everytime you read this collection different poems will standout to you and mean a lot to you depending on the time of your life. I would recommend this to anyone, even if you haven’t picked up a poetry book before, you have to start somewhere.

I had just finished reading another book of poetry by Courtney Peppernell before venturing into this ones inner workings. I have to say, while I really enjoyed "The Road Between" I think that I loved this one even more. "Pillow Thoughts" had a bit more of the uniqueness I craved from her other book.

Just so that I can give a little glimpse into some of my favorite parts of her writings I'd like to show you one of the very short poems that I very much loved:
"We should kiss.
Not because you passed my way by chance
but because you stopped
and i haven't been the same since."

and I would also like to share a little snippet of another that absolutely touched my heart:
"You remind me of hope,
of the sea and the sky,
every hug and every kiss from your lips to your thighs.
I have flown around the world and met no one like you
because you are all the things I keep coming back to."

I highly recommend to anyone looking for a good poetic read to let sweep across their soul in the depths of the night (as I did).

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book Via NetGalley.

Although I'm not one for poetry usually, I enjoyed this book very much.

I think it was well-written and cohesive, and I liked the fact that the poems were split up into different sections based on theme (or emotion, rather), allowing the reader to pick a section that correlates to how they are feeling at the moment. It made the book more engaging as a result.
I also liked that the illustrations separating each section corresponded to the section's theme, as well as the cover; it was a nice added touch.

Although the majority of the poems in this book had a distinctively melancholy feel to them, at least to me, there were a decent number of uplifting and encouraging poems to choose from as well--so no matter how you're feeling, there's something in this book for you!

As I was reading Pillow Thoughts, I kept thinking what a nice gift it would make for a friend or loved one, especially if that person was going through a rough patch in life. Or, of course, if they are a fan of poetry.
It's basically a little bit of encouragement in the form of a book. :)

After reading the contents page I instantly fell in love with this collection. It tells stories fit for every moment, it’s a collection made with everyone in mind, at any stage of one’s life. Every section has a beautiful illustration that beautifully matches the cover that alludes to the emotion that is about to be channelled through the following poems. I truly recommend this to anyone who enjoys poetry and flash fiction, but is it really fiction if it makes your heart feel so much? Every word is simple, yet filled with raw emotion, it forces you to think and feel. This was a very enjoyable read.

This was such a beautiful book. It was filled with raw emotions and text made into vivid pictures. I fell in love with this book form the first section. It contains smal poems on each page, all of them fit perfectly into its section. This is the type of book I would love to have on my bedside table to read when I cannot sleep. Just to realize that I am not alone with my feelings.

Make yourself a cup of tea and take a big blanket over you, get ready to get your feels on!

f rom this first poem, I felt as though my feelings were etched and replicated on every page. Courtney is in touch with all aspects of love, be it happiness., unrequited love., love lost, or the excitement of finding new love

Poetry usually isn't my thing, but after skimming through a collection in a bookstore, I decided to give it another go. I found Pillow Thoughts on NetGalley and decided to request a copy of it.

I'm really so glad that I did. I'm a big fan of those heart-wrenching ballads of the 90s, the kind of songs that make you want to ugly cry because you can relate to longing and the heartbreak. This collection is a lot like that. There were so many of the poems that I felt like I could relate to, which to me makes a reading experience that much more enjoyable.

I also liked that Peppernell wrote with such rawness. Through so much of this collection, there's no second guessing the meaning or need to analyze, which is what I typically struggle with when it comes to poetry. She outlines feelings and thoughts exactly, throwing in some beautiful imagery along the way.

If you're a reader like me who typically goes for the straight-forwardness of fiction, you can give this collection a shot. I think it's worth it!

Thank you so much to Andrew McMeel publishing via netgalley for sending me an ARc copy of Pillow thoughts by courtney peppernell. Pillow Thoughts will be released on August 29, 2017.

Pillow thoughts was beautifully written, very descriptive and with any poetry collection hopefully certain poems speak to you.

"I have been a little often on since the day I met you this is because I've never known what it was like it to be perfectly aligned"

Pillow thoughts was something i hadnt heard anything about and was amazed at how complex, deep, and emotional her poems got.
Everyone is going to view poems differently because we have all been through different things in life but i think this book has something for everyone!

"I hate to spoil the ending but you are fine you are still here you are going to make it"

Like many of the other modern poetry collections out there, Pillow Thoughts is not so much a collection of poems, but a collection of mini guides to get through specific moments in time. Much of this collection is focused on the reader and less on the experience of the poet, however, it is that initial experience that leads the poet to be able to dole out advice, love, and wise words to the rest of the world.

I will say that you have to be in a certain mood to read this book. I read the first half of the book during a pretty bitter time, and I spent most of the time reading this scoffing and rolling my eyes as I turned the page. The bitterness in myself eased up, and I read the second half of the collection, completely open to what it was trying to tell me. I can't say that it's a cure-all for a bad mood, but if you pick it up at the right time, you can help your soul find some perspective.

I am going to admit something that should make me ashamed: I picked this book solely off the cover. I do it so often that my friends are just used to me picking up books as we walk by displays in the library and leaving before we even make it back to the stacks. How could I pass up on this cover? I love it and it looks exactly like something that would drag me in. Why would a jellyfish have pillow thoughts? I was immediately drawn in. Goodreads and Amazon have different covers for the book, but I refuse to acknowledge them or use them.

To follow the jellyfish motif, there are little drawings of a jellyfish between the sections that match the sections. I have no idea why I love it, but I do. I didn't know that jellyfish would be a good way to sell me on something until this book. It might not hurt that I then imagined every poem was written by a jellyfish, which in the end just made me worried about jellyfish culture and very impressed with their emotional depth.

The poems were very striking. They ranged from one line to paragraphs. I was finding myself relating to most of the poems almost immediately. This book became a very personal and visceral experience for me. It was shocking that a jellyfish could understand me so well. I found so many of the poems allowed for multiple expressions of love. There was an openness that allowed them to apply to my long distance best friend that I love, as well as to partners I have lost. I love how it fit into a more modern view of love.

I also requested another book by this author. I am excited. NetGalley might be morphing me into someone who looks forward to poetry.

** I got an Ecopy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review **

I liked this one. It contains lots of poetry and prose inside which I think very relatable with my own life. Somehow I could see myself in it. I don't know whether it's such a good sign or not. Hmm.

The book's divided into some parts which each part told another part of life. All I can say is the book seemed so real, you need to check it out though. Everything that's written inside like did happen to us and still does.

Pillow Thoughts is a collection of short poems about love, the beginning of romantic love, the end of one, the ability to sustain it. It's an easy but thoughtful read.

Beautiful and heartbreaking. I adored this collection.

This is a lovely collection of heartfelt honest poems and streams of thought that are very easy to relate to. The wording is simple and reflect all those feelings everyone struggles with sometimes.

I like this because the title tells you exactly what this is. Thoughts. Little bits of prose to cope with every life. I love that it is divided in sections that you can read when you need them. Sometimes it is a bit cheesy, sometimes a little too simple, but that’s fine.

No, the words and ideas won’t astound the world, but why do they need to? If you are in love, miss someone, or simply struggle sometimes to find your inner peace, you will probably recognise these words.

I really love the content, the poetries are well constructed and I can feel what the author is trying to convey.

This was a beautiful collection of poetry! It is split into sections based on emotion, which I thought was an interesting aspect and I appreciated it. Of course, it was a quick read and nice to read before I went to sleep. You could tell the author was really pouring her heart out, and she made me feel. I do recommend!

I believe poetry is a personal form of art that is subjective. It makes you feel things when it hits close to home. This book is no exception.

I found out about this book when I saw a post from a Twitter account I follow called Poems Porn. I read the last entry in the book entitled Looking for Ice Cream and I knew I needed to read more.

I wanted to like this more than I did. But for me, this is the kind of poetry that you either relate to or you don't.

The book is divided into different chapters depending on how you feel. Since I am neither in love nor heartbroken at the moment, the entries in chapters related to those emotions didn't hit me as hard. However, the chapters about soul searching and encouragement are what I really needed.

I think there's a right time to read this book. As written in the back cover,

"It is divided into sections to read when you feel you need them most."

Truer words have never been spoken.
