Description
The occasion of a birthday provide the opportunity to look back at the long days spent waiting patiently for the baby to be born, the special day it arrives, and the miraculous perfection of every stage of its growth. Soft, warm colors and cozy images are accompanied by a spare text that perfectly captures the all-encompassing love parents for their children. This birthday book will resonate with anyone who has loved a child. It is a gift that every child deserves.
A Note From the Publisher
Mamoru Suzuki is the writer and illustrator of picture books, for which he has won many awards, including the Akaitori Award for Illustration and the Kodansha Award for Picture Books. After moving to the Izu Peninsula—an area known for its natural beauty—he became fascinated by the various forms of birds’ nests and has published many books and articles about them. His deep love of nature is reflected in his art. He is the author/illustrator of You Belong to Me.
Advance Praise
Suzuki’s
Happy Birthday! is a book solely designed to reassure the young child
listening to it that she is loved and adored by her parent. I don’t frequently
showcase those types of unconditional love-themed picture books, because
they’re not always interesting, especially to children (though, sure, they can
be comforting). But this book has more than one thing goin’ for it.—Kirkus Reviews
Praise for You Belong to
Me
One of the pleasures of reading aloud a certain tender
type of baby book is that in doing so we literally speak words of love to the
infant in our care. . . . The love language in Mamoru Suzuki’s “You Belong to Me” is direct and
affecting in this way. —Wall Street
