Description

Making a Murderer meets Scandal in this story of police corruption, family secrets, and illicit affairs from bestselling author K.A. Tucker, celebrated for her “propulsive plot twists and searing seduction” (USA TODAY).

Noah Marshall has known a privileged and comfortable life thanks to his mother, the highly decorated chief of the Austin Police Department. But all that changes the night she reveals a skeleton that's been rattling in her closet for years, and succumbs to the guilt of destroying an innocent family's life. Reeling with grief, Noah is forced to carry the burden of this shocking secret.

Gracie Richards wasn't born in a trailer park, but after fourteen years of learning how to survive in The Hollow, it's all she knows anymore. At least here people don't care that her dad was a corrupt Austin cop, murdered in a drug deal gone wrong. Here, she and her mother are just another family struggling to survive...until a man who clearly doesn't belong shows up on her doorstep.

Despite their differences, Noah and Gracie are searching for answers to the same questions, and together, they set out to uncover the truth about the Austin Police Department's dark and messy past. But the scandal that emerges is bigger than they bargained for, and goes far higher up than they ever imagined.

Complex, gritty, sexy, and thrilling, Keep Her Safe solidifies K.A. Tucker's reputation as one of today's most talented new voices in romantic suspense.

Just like the other K.A. Tucker titles I've read, this book kept me on the edge of my seat. I raced through it in one weekend, desperate to find out the truth of what happened to Abe. One of my favourite 'new adult' authors.

Keep Her Safe, a new suspense novel by best selling author K.A. Tucker came out today! As many of you know, I love this author. The talent she exudes in her work is amazing. (Ten Tiny Breaths series will prove this). So obviously, I was happy to get the ARC of Keep Her Safe and provide a review for you all.

Noah Marshall has had an easy life. His mother is the chief of the police department and they live a pretty normal life in Austin. Friends, sports and school are life for him. He is a polite, handsome Texan with a good head on his shoulders. One night Noah's mom, Jackie, in a drunken state reveals some things to Noah that he doesn't quite understand and brushes off but in a flash his life is turned upside down and he comes to realize that it wasn't all just gibberish.

Gracie on the other hand lives in a trailer park where she doesn't know if her mom will make it day to day, or even hour to hour sometimes. Life has been harder for the both of them since Abe, a loving father and husband was murdered on the job on the Austin PD. Gracie is tough and sassy (she has to be to keep her neighbours honest). She takes care of her mom, herself and a stray one-eyed dog. So on the day Noah arrives on her doorstep, all guards go up and Gracie reverts to her protective self. Little do they know that their lives are about to change forever. From that moment, it will bring Noah and Gracie together in ways they never thought possible and will reveal answers to questions neither of them ever thought the need to ask.

Keep Her Safe is written through many POV's. We get Noah, Gracie, Abe and Sheriff Marshall. I love when authors do this, and can pull it off. I love how we get a full 360' view of the story being told. I did find a few of the parts of the book to be predictable early on, but it didn't ruin it for me. I still felt it when K.A. Tucker confirmed in writing what was going through my head.

Keep Her Safe has been listed as a romantic suspense, and yes, there is romance but it doesn't overpower the book. And it's not super gushy romance either. It's a mature, ever developing kind between some pretty awesome characters. There was enough to remind you that you are reading K.A. Tucker. (Again, read Ten Tiny Breaths series!)

While I wasn't a huge fan of K.A. Tuckers thriller, He Will Be My Ruin, I was a tad worried Keep Her Safe wouldn't live up (being it was a suspense novel) but I was wrong. Keep Her Safe was written with more finesse, more"umpf" and way more wow factor in my opinion. And I would happily recommend Keep Her Safe for any fan of K.A. Tucker, any fan of suspense or romantic suspense.

Keep Her Safe by K.A. Tucker is the first book of Tucker's that I have read. It is a great romantic suspense novel.

Noah Marshall is a young man whose life is turned upside down. His mother, the police chief of Austin, Texas, kills herself. Noah is left with a puzzle on his hands. He needs to find the daughter of his mother's old partner and bring her a package...with $98,000 in it.

Noah finds Gracie in dire need of the money. Her mother is a heroin addict who is always one hit away from death. Why are the FBI involved? And is the City of Austin ready to deal with the mess that has been revealed.

There are lots of twists in Keep Her Safe. I had a hard time putting it down.

Highly recommend Keep Her Safe.

Over the years I have become a huge K.A. Tucker fan. First stumbling across her Ten Tiny Breaths Series I have devoured each and every book she has released since. Keep Her Safe was no exception. While this isn’t the first time Tucker has written a Romantic Suspense it felt as though she cranked up the intensity in this one. I found Keep Her Safe to be a little darker than her previous books and I loved every minute of it.

Tucker draws us in to this stand-alone novel with characters Noah and Grace. Noah and Grace are both bound to the same web of lies and deceit. As they go down the rabbit hole to find the truth they uncover things that have the power to tear them apart forever or bring them closer. Both were such dimensional characters that showed true growth over the course of the story. I loved Grace, she was such an independent and strong character. Noah and Grace complimented each other in a way that made the relationship between them feel authentic.

Tucker plays on every emotion throughout this story. You can feel the struggle the characters each face as they uncover the truth. This novel had a bit of everything. The story line was well thought out and throughout the book I second guessed myself multiple times trying to figure out how everything was connected and who was involved. I find that a lot of Romantic Suspense novels have a difficult time balancing both the romance and the suspense aspects. Tucker did an amazing job of keeping this balance. I never felt like one outweighed the other and it made for such an addictive and enjoyable read. Keep Her Safe has so many little details that draw the reader in. I would have loved to have seen Tuckers Google history while researching for this book!! After finishing this one I can’t wait to see what she has in store for readers next.

I started Keep Her Safe by K.A. Tucker the same way I start most books, a little hopeful but mostly cautiously optimistic. This was marketed as a romantic suspense, and the romance part made me a little hesitant. I’ve made this mistake before and ended up reading more erotica than anything else, but the further I read with this, the further drawn into this story I was.

Corrupt cops, a supposed set up, a huge sum of money showing up out of nowhere, this had every element of an action read and I whipped through it at a rapid pace.

I loved how this worked, told between timelines of what happened in the past and then what was happening in the present, where we followed Noah and Grace as they tried to uncover the truth. I really came to care a lot about these characters, Tucker did a great job of bringing them to life and uncovering a backstory that hits deep and makes you care about the outcome.

The author straight up says she was trying for a romance story written in among this corrupt crime book, so there is no surprise that Noah and Grace gravitate towards each other while they work closely with each other. It compliments the story well enough and adds that second layer that she was going for.  I didn’t find it too overbearing or overly gratuitous, though sometimes it came close. But I really liked their chemistry and it felt like a natural romantic progression, nothing forced or written just to be graphically sexual.

I was pretty much kept on my toes this whole book. Some aspects you could kind of assume, but for the most part I was as in the dark and Noah and Grace and eager to find the truth. However, I did predict the twist in the end about half way through, so that was too bad, but that didn’t take away from what that twist meant and how it cemented all the pieces together.

I really quite enjoyed this book and the direction it took. It wasn’t light-hearted and definitely had some awful moments, but it was well written and well thought out and made for a really fast paced and interesting read.

I was given a free copy of this book from Simon and Schuster Canada for an honest review. This book held my interest from beginning to end. There was a lot going on and quite a few twists and turns. This book deals with death, grief, drug addiction, police corruption and more. Early in the story Noah, our central protagonist, is faced with the death of his mother Jackie, the Chief of police. Further adding to the situation is Jackie's final messages to Noah which were incoherent sentences. This leaves her son having to piece together what it all means. Additionally, Jackie leaves behind a bag of money to take to the daughter of her deceased police partner. Noah gets the task of delivering the money and meets up with the daughter, Gracie. Together the two of them try and solve the mystery behind the death of Gracie's father while also trying to make sense of Jackie's final words. The deeper down the rabbit hole they go the more they uncover police corruption and inconsistencies. While they are doing their detective work, Noah and Gracie also begin to develop a romantic relationship that is written in a charming way. Overall, I really enjoyed all the twists and turns this book takes you on and all the interesting characters it introduces to the reader.

K.A. Tucker, I love you!!! I discovered this author recently, and I loved everything that I read so far. This book is so good! A thriller with a romantic twist, alternating between the present and the past, to uncover a story with many, many developments. I loved every bit of it, and didn't see how I would end at all.

Loved, loved, loved!

I received an e-copy of this book from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Keep Her Safe has been a much anticipated book for me for 2018. I was eagerly anticipating release day. Wouldn't you know I went on NetGalley and it was there for review. I requested a copy and in no time it was approved.

I love Ms. Tucker's YA romance novels but I must say she has outdone herself with this mystery romance standalone. Now there is a touch of romance but it's not what the basis of the book is. The mystery/suspense is off the hook. You'll be chomping at the bit trying to figure out the whodunit in this one.

I love how Ms. Tucker gives us tiny hints along the way without divulging too much info. The twists & turns will have your head spinning. When all is revealed at the end it's a huge "WOW" moment. Some mystery books I can read & figure out what's going to happen or figure out whodunit but not with this one & for me that's huge points for the author.

It's so good to see an author who can step outside their wheelhouse and still give you a tale so intriguing & compelling that you lose time with your head & mind engrossed in the building storyline.

Keep Her Safe was a great way to begin my reading for 2018. It has set the bar high for all of the other books that I will be reading this year. I was expecting a riveting, suspenseful book with twists and turns that would keep glued to the pages, and that was exactly what I got.

This is a superbly written novel that pulled me in immediately and didn’t let me go until the very end. K.A. Tucker has given her readers a story that is as intricately woven as the finest web. Half of the fun of reading a suspense novel is attempting to figure it all out before it unfolds at your fingertips. With several twists and turns along the way, I was kept on high alert, suspicious of almost every character that I encountered. I wasn’t sure who I could trust, what their true motives were, or what was awaiting me on the following pages. I think that we all like to fancy ourselves as being pretty good amateur detectives/sleuths when reading a suspense novel, but at the same time, nothing is better than having an author pull the rug out from under us, completely surprising the reader with a twist that we never saw coming. K.A. Tucker succeeded at shocking me, taking me completely off guard, and making my jaw drop. Thank you!

I was instantly invested in the story and the characters. From the main characters to the minor characters, the author created them all with such care and depth. I felt as if I knew them, they became familiar to me, I cared for them, and I was drawn into their lives. Throughout the entire book, I was able to visualize every part as it played out. It all flowed effortlessly, with a perfect pace, building up the story and the anticipation for what was going to be uncovered.

While reading Keep Her Safe, I wanted nothing more than to be convinced that there is still some honest, good, true people out there. It made me doubt the characters, their honor, and their respectable positions that they held in their community and in their own families. I think that it’s human nature to want to believe the best in people. We need to see the tiniest shred of light and goodness, despite all of the dark and ugly parts of the world and humankind. We want goodness to prevail over evil. K.A. Tucker touched on the dark and disturbing nature of the people that we hold in the highest esteem, she made it realistic and completely plausible.

Keep Her Safe is a fantastic suspenseful novel that just hit all of the marks for me. It is an intense, intriguing, and consuming reading experience, but throughout all of the intensity, there are still a number of lighthearted scenes which left a smile on my face (shout out to Cyclops). While it is a suspense novel at heart, there is also a budding romance that added a little something extra to the overall story. I felt a plethora of emotions while reading this novel, but the final one was just being happy to be a reader.

*5 Stars

A tangled web of lies and corruption is slowly spelled out through flashback and present day chapters. Romantic suspense at it's finest...complex, mysterious, thrilling and so well written. With each page, the intrigue becomes more intense.

Noah and Grace are unwittingly caught in what their parents were involved in years ago, and now they're trying to right a wrong...a story that'll captivate you and keep you reading, needing to find out how it plays out!

What can I say about this story that will do it some justice. To start it was a great honour to get to read it before it comes out to the general public. This 4.5 star really consumed me all through out the reading of this amazing story.

I believe in spoiler free reviews. In this case it would need to remain so. This is an intense romantic suspense that sucked me in, twisted me and left me baffled. There are so many twists and turns in this story that I wasn’t sure who I should trust or not. The surprises kept coming. When I thought I had it all figured out, BAM!!! A shocking 180 degree turn that left me speechless.

It was a lengthy book, it was slow easing into the story but things started to pick real quick. I needed to really be focus in order to not miss any valuable information in this web of deceit and lies. I was hooked.

The author did a tremendous job with the storyline that was quite complicated. The author needed to know her characters, plots and the numerous twists. It seems like time and effort were put into creating this intense novel.

There were quite a few key players in the story. To get into it would reveal far to many spoilers. For those who love romance, Noah and Grace are our main focus. Grace was a witty, smart and say as it is kind of girl. I liked her very much, no beating around the bush. Noah was the silent type who wanted to protect the ones he loves.
For those who love suspense, it was mostly centred around the police.

This is a standalone told in multiple POV that goes back in time a few times. It does have an HEA for some. I highly recommend this story.

K.A. Tucker has proven herself to be a versatile author with Keep Her Safe. Tucker usually writes romance and has cemented herself a go to author for many. Not all authors can be versatile in their writing and there’s nothing wrong with that because we all play to our strengths. Luckily, for Tucker, suspense has been added to her repertoire.

Keep Her Safe balances a very difficult line between suspense and romance. Tucker balances this line expertly since Keep Her Safe can be recommended to fan of suspense and romance alike.

The mystery slowly unravels throughout the novel with twists and turns you won’t see coming. You think you have an idea about what happened, then Tucker pulls the rug from underneath you by adding an unexpected layer to the mystery. This extra layer was methodically sowed within the text, but masked behind the story. Keep Her Safe will keep you guessing until the very last page.

Keep Her Safe is written from multiple perspectives. The two main perspectives are the main characters, Noah and Grace, and the occasional chapter from their parents’ perspectives in the past. The intersecting chapters from multiple perspectives and timelines are easy to follow despite the change in dates. Noah and Grace are very different characters, so their differing views on the unfolding mystery were interesting to read, especially concerning the big reveal.

The only issue, for lack of a better word, I had with Keep Her Safe was the romance between the main characters. I wish there was a little more of it sprinkled throughout since I’m a fan of Tucker’s romance writing style. I just wanted more of it!

Overall, Keep Her Safe is a well-written romantic suspense novel that can be recommended for fans of each genre. If you’re looking for and intricate mystery with a romantic spin that isn’t shoehorned in, look no futher.

A tightly wound circle of corruption, romance and family. What more could one want? This book kept me guessing the whole time - just when I thought I had figured it out, there was a left turn out of nowhere. This should be on the top of your 2018 reading list. Even after finishing this book, the story stayed with me for a couple of days inside my head as I replayed scenes. It was that good. Thank you for the opportunity to read this advance copy!
