Description

Previously published as Shadows from the Grave by T. L. Haddix.

When it comes to murder, the past is never really dead. Attorney Chase Hudson learned that lesson the hard way. The weight of his college girlfriend’s unsolved murder has sat like a lead cape on his shoulders for ten years. Just when he’s starting to move on with his life, the past comes calling with a vengeance—Chase’s loved ones are now the targets of a serial killer who’ll stop at nothing to make him suffer.

Annie Tucker has been burned by romance more than once. She’s careful to keep her lovers at a distance—at least until Chase manages to slip inside her heart. Terrified of being hurt again, Annie must choose whether to let him stay or to close him out and let her insecurities destroy their shot at happiness. With the killer closing in, she may not get to make that choice.

They say third times a charm, in this case, I think not.

After Hunted, the second in the series, I wasn't feeling very optimistic about continuing on with the series. However, I decided to give book three a try and see if all hope could not be lost. I wanted to be wrong, I did, only in the end, it wasn't true.

To be entirely honest, I did actually like this one better than the second, but, that's not saying much because this wasn't without it's flaws. In truth, Vanishing Point lacks in originality. I'm starting to see a pattern emerge. Each novel seems to share the same theme. There's a killer on the loose, he seems to target women, in which, he goes after the main female in the novel. There's a complicated romance that takes place, which ends with ultimately the same results, marriage. In the beginning of the novel the main female, in this case, Annie experiences a devastating accident to her place of business, a fire. In book one, Homecoming, Lauren's business, The Brown Bag is trashed, and in book two, Beth, her home office is also trashed. So you see... it's all very redundant. It's like reading the same romantic mystery over again, only with different characters and a slightly different plot.

In this novel, I did enjoy some of the dialogue, I found some areas to be quirky and entertaining, which helped to hold my interest. I also enjoyed the cat, Murphy, which belonged to Chase, but if you've read number one in the series, Homecoming, again, this is very been there done that as Charlie, the main male character also had a cat, Rumble. He also won over he hearts of many, mine included. Though I must admit, I can't understand how a cat could steal a cell phone, I did find this to be unbelievable in the storyline and it didn't quite work for me. I felt like the author was just reaching for a reason for Annie to of had Chase's phone, but honestly she was trying just a bit too hard here.

I think this will be the last in the series for me. I just get the sneaking suspicious that all the others are going to have the same overall effect on me. So all in all, I do recommend number one in the series, Homecoming, aside from that, I can't recommend books two and three.

I want to thank NetGalley, Streetlight Graphics Publishing, and T.L. Haddix (aka Alex Collins) for allowing me the opportunity to read this novel in exchange for my review.

I have read the entire series and this was my least favorite. I am not saying that I did not enjoy reading it but it just did not grab hold of me like the other books did. This book was fill of some twists and turns that were surprising and that was enjoyable. Thank you for allowing me to read this and write honestly about it.

This is set in a small town where everyone knows everyone or they think they do, Chase is a still under suspicion for a murder that happened 10 years ago to his then ex girlfriend. He has a perfect alibi but her family are convinced he murdered her. Annie has er own shop which is unfortunately damaged and has to be rebuilt. Fate pushes them together but they are both carrying lots of baggage so things are not smooth. I wasn't aware this was the 3rd book in the series when I read it only when I came to do this review but that didn't distract from my enjoyment.
This was a really easy read and I devoured the book in two days it had romance, mystery and murder what more could you want.
Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of the book.
