Description

The Harmony Paradox is the second installment of the Virtual Immortality

Lieutenant Nina Duchenne has almost come to terms with her life―but isn’t sure she still has one.

Eighteen months ago, she awoke as a doll, a living brain inside a military-grade artificial body. She looks human in every way on the outside, but dreads the thought of what lies beneath her skin. Her role as a field agent for Division 9 has exposed her to depravity unlike anything she thought possible. Building darkness clings to her heart, until a tiny orphan girl reminds her that more than a body defines humanity.

A new case falls in Nina’s lap when electronic evidence links Harmony, a fast-spreading new recreational drug, to a foreign government. She hopes for a nice ‘normal’ investigation that won’t blacken another slice of her soul. The straightforward case turns into a balancing act as she exposes an infestation of enemy agents within West City.

If the spies see her coming or if she takes too long finding them all, a drug meant to provide peace of mind may bring about the downfall of society.

ABOUT THE SERIES

By 2418, technology has made reality a question of desire rather than circumstance. With enough money, even death stands aside. The Corporate War resulted in the emergence of two new superpowers: the United Coalition Front, a military-industrial society, perches on the edges of a destroyed North America, while the capitalist runaway of the Allied Corporate Council dominates most of Europe.

Nina Duchenne thought she could make a difference as a cop, but one mistake left her with a robotic body and the rank of lieutenant in the Division 9, the shadowy arm of the National Police Force.
Joey Dillon, a hacker living on the fringe, stuck his head in the wrong rabbit hole and wound up fleeing Mars to the slums of UCF Earth.
Masaru Kurotai is the second heir to the vast fortune of Kurotai Electronics, useless unless his elder brother dies. With unlimited resources and a father he cannot please, he devotes his time to the pleasures of wealth, and his blade.
Kenny Marlon makes his living by running into the haunted Badlands for valuable pre-war artifacts. Most call him crazy, as few who venture out there ever return.
Katya Volkov grew up as an owned asset of the ACC’s intelligence community, trained as an infiltrator and spy. When an opportunity to escape presented itself, she took it.
These five individuals cross paths in a world where all bow to the god of the new age―technology.

The Harmony Paradox (Virtual Immortality #2) by Matthew S. Cox is book 2 and continues where book one takes off. Love it! Nina is mostly cyborg due to an attack that nearly killed her. She looks and feels human. She was a detective but now works for a special division for the government. This book has several separate stories that start blending together and come together with twists and turns. Masterfully done. Lots of action, adventure, intrigue, and suspense. Scattered bits of humor to lighten the load too. Love this authors books! Great second book!
