4.5- I messed up and read this before reading the first one. That made it harder for me to follow some parts of the story but once I figure out everything I immersed myself in the story. I am now going back and reading the rest. The story flowed amazingly and the characters were brought to life o every page. Thank you for allowing me to read this and write about it.

This is the sequel to MURDER IN THE MIST. Although second in the series, it is easily read as a stand alone.

Laura Friday is an investigative reporter on assignment in El Paso, Texas. She has changed her name and moved from her home in Maine along with her Aunt. She meets up again with Sheriff Mitch Carter, who was once a deputy in Laura's hometown in Maine.

She has no intention of acting on her attraction for the Sheriff, for her own reasons, but when her Aunt is violently attacked in her hotel room and then the discovery of a headless corpse, she feels she has no choice. The two crimes may or may not be connected, but Laura wonders if this was a message for her specifically.

Throw in a couple of warring drug cartels, and the mystery only deepens.

This is an action-packed page-turner creating chills and thrills for Laura and Mitch, especially when they have to deal with a stone-cold assassin who likes his job. With a little romance thrown in, this well written story leads to a very satisfactory ending.

Many thanks to the author / The Wild Rose Press, Inc / Netgalley for the digital copy of this Romantic Suspense and follow-up to MURDER IN THE MIST. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
