Good commentary, the writer submits to God's revelation and isnt part of the unbelieving rationalist movement, so the commentary was very informative

I really like this commentary on Isaiah, which is one of my favorite books of the Bible. The author opens with backgrounds on history, the place of the book in the Bible (a prophecy), information on the writer and other prophets during his time, historical background,, theme, and a basic outline. Being a prophetic book, he shows how much of the prophecy of Isaiah points to the coming Messiah, Jesus.

The book breaks Isaiah up into sections rather than covering it chapter by chapter. Each section is outlined and then each point in the outline is discussed. It's very well organized.

This is a real thorough commentary which I will find very helpful as the prophetic books can be hard to understand!

This is a great little commentary, giving an great summary/overview of what is important in Isaiah. From the book.... "the purpose and desire of anyone using this study is to get an overall picture of Isaiah and especially to see the teachings in the book concerning Christ." The book definitely focuses on the messiah/servant aspect of the book of Isaiah, and considering Isaiah's place in the 66-book canon, I think this is a great focus for the commentary.

Isaiah Is a great and total study about Isaiah. It tells you not only about how he began but his whole life and his prophecies. It also goes into the life of the kings who were reigning while he was alive - about how he was a prophet and how he died - O my word how he died - unreal - I loved this book - learning all of this stuff.

3.5 stars. A re-issue of a 1956 commentary. This is a big-picture overview of the book of Isaiah in the Bible. This would be good for those new to Isaiah or as background for a class or small group that is studying Isaiah. Bible references are generally in KJV or NKJV. I found a couple instances where the language felt outdated (This might have been revised during final edits), and I would have preferred a more contemporary translation for the Bible references (personal preference).

I read this after having completed an excellent study of Isaiah. While some of the history on authorship debates was new to me, the rest was too big picture after having gone carefully through the material. There's an emphasis on tying Isaiah to the New Testament, especially in the author's discussion of who wrote the book of Isaiah, as well as emphasis on God's love in the midst of judgement and our need to depend on God. completely.

It is no accident that the name Isaiah means "The salvation of the Lord". Men yearn for peace, but they will not acknowledge the hopelessness of their own efforts to achieve it. It is only when the word of the Lord goes forth from Jerusalem, when He Himself is reigning over the nations, that lasting peace will come. Disarmament will would be a foolish procedure for now for peace loving nations, because of the presence of greed and aggression in the world. When Christ reigns, the can be disarmament because he will enforce righteousness in the earth.

The book of Isaiah can be somewhat hard to grasp, but this short commentary puts Isaiah in perspective. In outline form, the reader is introduced to the purpose of the calling of Isaiah. "Send me Lord". A call that was not well received among the people of God however, call us all to know him and be comforted. The main emphasis of the book of Isaiah is the judgment of God and the comfort of God. Two contrasting concepts however needed for our hearts to be bend toward him. Isaiah is the prophecy of Christ and the work of Christ.

Isaiah teaches the heart of those that that do not trust and put their dependence on the one who holds it together. It reminds us that the cross is not the great tragedy but the great victory. Death could not hold him. It is this power that we can put our trust in.

One of the things that I gleamed from this study is that I must bear the judgment so that I may know the comfort of the Lord. This study is a great resource for those that are encouraged by bible study. Highly recommend.

A Special Thank you to Moody Publishing and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review

This is another great volume in the Everyday Bible Commentary series. I love this series because it discusses the subject matter of the book of Isaiah in a way that plain and clear for the lay person or even for the person leading a class or small group study.

With Isaiah, there is so much depth that some people may get discouraged before they get too far into the book. This study aid will assist the interested student by providing background information as well as a clearer understanding helping them to better connect with the book.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advancer Reader’s Copy of this book that was made available by Moody Publishers and Net Galley. However the opinions expressed are my own.

This is a reprint of a commentary written in the 1950s. The voice of the author came across as old-fashioned, not addressing our contemporary world. This is a good, rather basic introduction to the book of Isaiah. Do be aware that the author only presents his interpretation of texts, dismissing others who disagree with him. Not a first choice. Review based on an ARC received through NetGalley.

This is a very short commentary on the book of Isaiah that's 144 pages. I was personally shocked when it came in the mail because of how thin it was. With the book of Isaiah being 66 chapters long, I expected this to be at least around 250 pages of jam packed info on the book. Isaiah is full of prophecy, so why not a large commentary? This book contains 21 chapter that breaks the book of Isaiah into a smaller understanding for the every day person.

It dives into a summary of the book of Isaiah and each individual chapter. I enjoyed the smaller breakdowns because they helped me understand the basics of Isaiah as a whole. Isaiah can be a tough book to study because it's heavy with prophecy. It focuses on the prophecies while still being easy to understand.

I love that it divides Isaiah into two parts with mini section. It highlights the key information. This is great for on the go Bible study and personal use. It may not be ideal for a group study, but for those looking for a quick understanding this does well.

Do I recommend it? Yes, if you're looking for something quick and simple. No, if you're looking for something more in-depth.

A brief but accessible guide to the book of isaiah.
The book is compact and offers a one page per chapter guide to the book of Isaiah. Chapters concerning the Messiah have slightly more with an entire chapter devoted to Chapter 53.
I enjoyed this overview of Isaiah but can see many people wanting more.
I was given this book by Netgalley and the publisher. This is my voluntary review.
