On August 3rd, 2014, the Islamic State attacked the Kurdish

About the Author:
For the past decade, Susan Shand has worked as a television producer in the Near East and Central Asia Division of the Voice of America. This division covers news and events in Kurdistan (northern Iraq), Turkey, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan. While working at VOA, she has reported on political and refugee stories from Turkey, the West Bank, Israel and Jordan. She has traveled to the region several times to cover the story of Yazidi and Christian refugees. She lives in Washington, DC.Available Editions
