Advance Praise

“If you love Jayne Anne Krentz or Linda Howard you’ll adore this series.”  – Beth I., Amazon Review

“I loved Hollie and Nick as main characters. They work really well together, and they understand each other. I liked their maturity and that neither was rushing into anything. With her writing, Jacki gave me a clear picture of these two…both their backgrounds and their presents. I was very intrigued and had to keep turning the pages.”  – Sue P., Amazon Review

“Hollie and Nick’s journey is fun, heartwarming and surreal. The journey that these two take together in getting to know one another at the same time in helping their friends finding their way back is totally and emotionally draining at times but the hearts that open up between Hollie and Nick are trueness of heart.

The author is amazing in this read. She hit on more points in this read than I can say and my heart was right there with Hollie and Nick the whole time. Get enthralled in this amazing read.”  – Babiessmile, Amazon Review

Hollie proves that first opinions of people might not be correct. Nick falls for Hollie at first glance, but falls in love with her softer side.

While I've enjoyed this series, this book was a bit of a let down. basically this is book 2, from Hollie's point of view. While I like Hollie and glad she met someone, the whole suspense bit is lost if you've read book two because it is the exact same story. If you haven't read Women Under Fire (book 2), then this is a good story.

Amazing! This well written and entertaining story captures your heart and your head. From the onset, the characters jump from the page and appear real, familiar and like friends. I loved the book’s description and chose the book based on what I read – I wasn’t disappointed, and would certainly read more of the series, especially as the background characters in the novel were as entertaining as Holly and Nick.

I had not read other books from this series and still lost myself in the story.

Highly recommended.

I have mixed feelings on this book. It has for lack of a better term good bones. I like the premise and how it touches on a very real but little acknowledged crisis for the men and women in the armed forces. Also the brave dogs that go to war with them. I really liked Nick and Talley. I found them wonderful and lovable. Most of my problems with the book was with Holly. I just did not connect with her character. She came across as trying to hard to be tough. There was also the fault of the author trying to make her sound young and hip. What it really came across as was dated. Twenty somethings may have talked that way in the 70's but not anymore. There was too much repetition to the writing. The same woman's name was mentioned 6 times in one paragraph. We know what her name is no need to bludgeon us with it. With a little judicious editing I think the author could really have something.

Not as action packed as I thought it would be, but still a great read. I wish there had been more of a storyline about how Tally and her handler were hurt, and what the injuries were. PTSD is what I assumed was part of the problem, but it was only alluded to.

Even though I liked the storyline, I couldn't really get into the book. I read about the hero and the heroine falling in love, okay, in insta-love, actually but I couldn't feel it. The hero, Sergeant Nick Welby is rather determined in his pursuit of Hollie, our heroine and even though I understand where he is coming from and I read all about his reasons for acting the way he does - I don't really get it. It's just a bit too much, a bit too determined, too strong.

When Hollie's boss, the veterinarian Grayce Walters, is threatened by terrorists, I can't really understand why she becomes a target because, well, it didn't make sense in my eyes.
With Grayce and Hollie's lives on the line, Nick and his bomb-sniffing dog Talley have to work hard to prevent the worst - and somehow without really knowing anything about the situation, those two save the day despite other equally trained people being around who know much more about everything that's happening. That might happen but... well.

Soooo... I liked Hollie and I liked Nick and Talley - and I even liked other books by Jackie Delecki that I've read but somehow this book and I, we were not a good match. I'd rate it weak three stars, rather 2,5 actually.

Nick has returned home and is attempting to resume life after fighting in a war that claimed the lives of his unit. Taking each day as they come he meets Hollie. Just a single look captivates his attention and he begins to feel a sense of peace that has been missing from his life. Hollie’s life has been a whirlwind of despair and she immediately clicks with Nick. They work together to save one another from situations that begin to unravel around them threatening the lives of the ones they hold dear.
