In Sullivan’s Crossing, #1
New York Times
bestselling author Robyn Carr has created a place where good people, powerful emotions, great humor and a healthy dose of common sense are the key ingredients to a happy life. Sullivan’s Crossing brings out the best in people. It’s a place you’ll want to visit again and again.

Dr. Leigh Culver loves practicing medicine in Timberlake, Colorado. It is a much-needed change of pace from her stressful life in Chicago. The only drawback is she misses her aunt Helen, the woman who raised her. But it’s time that Leigh has her independence, and she hopes the beauty of the Colorado wilderness will entice her aunt to visit often.

Helen Culver is an independent woman who lovingly raised her sister’s orphaned child. Now, with Leigh grown, it’s time for her to live life for herself. The retired teacher has become a successful mystery writer who loves to travel and intends to never experience winter again.

When Helen visits Leigh, she is surprised to find her niece still needs her, especially when it comes to sorting out her love life. But the biggest surprise comes when Leigh takes Helen out to Sullivan’s Crossing and Helen finds herself falling for the place and one special person. Helen and Leigh will each have to decide if they can open themselves up to love neither expected to find and seize the opportunity to live their best lives.

This series is so charming, I always look forward to a new book in the series. I really liked how this one opened, showcasing Leigh's friendship with Sully. Sure it was a bit unusual, but it worked for them. I really loved how accepted Leigh was in the town, it seemed like it was something that she has been looking for.

The first meeting between Leigh and Rob was funny. I loved that Leigh kept her head, while Rob had issues and needed Leigh to soothe him. Their romance was sweet. I liked how it started out slow, but gained steam. It was funny how they were grown adults, yet had to sneak around at times due to family on both sides.

Leigh's aunt Helen was a hoot. I loved how she was with Sully. I found I was loved their secondary romance just as much as Leigh and Rob's. It was fun to see Sully so charming and putting all his best moves forward. I especially liked how Helen had a frank talk with Leigh about what she would and wouldn't do. It was very needed on both sides.

Rob's sons were funny. Finn faced a challenge with grace, while Sean was the funny kid. I loved how the two of them put a meal on letting Leigh know she was very welcome in their family.

The ending was great, 2 big events for the whole crew.

With each new book in the Sullivan's Crossing series, I become more and more in love with these characters and the world Robyn Carr has created in Timberlake, Colorado. Although each book in this series could actually be read as a stand-alone, reading them all gives you background information as to family relationships and friendships. And believe me, once you get started on this series, you will absolutely want to read them all. Each book centers on one or two of these fabulous characters, but it's easy to see how all of their lives are entwined. I am so thankful to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this advance copy.

THE BEST OF US centers on the local doctor, Leigh Culver, who has spent the past years trying to get over a disastrous breakup. And then there is Rob, the owner of the pub down the street, who has been raising his two teenage boys by himself after the death of his wife several years ago. We also become reaquainted with Sully, the loveable older gentleman who owns and runs the campground and general store at Sulllivan's Crossing. In this book we are also introduced to Helen, Leigh's aunt, who happens to be a writer.

As I have said before, Robyn Carr creates multi-dimensional characters who warm your heart and make you feel like you are part of the story. I cried and I smiled, feeling every emotion imaginable. And in the end I had this overwhelming feeling of happiness, the love of family, and the fact that I wanted to pack my bags and move to Timberlake, Colorado. Great series from an author I have grown to love!

A beautiful well written story about love happening to any age. Sully and Helen's story is wonderful. Love in your older years is an unexpected blessing. Rob and Leigh have a lot to overcome even with their explosive sexual attraction. Oooo this book was hard to put down!

4.5 stars
The Best of Us is the fourth exciting book in Robyn Carr’s Sullivan Crossings Series.

Dr. Leigh Culver left a busy Chicago ER to open up a small town clinic in Timberlake, Colorado. Leigh was content with her new, slower, uncomplicated life, until a certain widower, Rob Shandon, charmed his way into her heart. Although Leigh was happier than she’d ever been before, the fear of being dumped for another woman, nagged at her. Leigh had already experienced, that painful humiliation, and had no intention, of enduring that again.

Sixty-two-year-old Helen Culver waited until Leigh was well established, before becoming a full-time writer. And, although Helen never regretted sacrificing the prime of her life to raise her sister’s child, she was disappointed, when her niece, expected even more from her, than she’d already given. Helen never thought that she’d leave Leigh when she was in need. But sometimes the most loving thing to do was to let go; even though it hurt.

Helen loved to travel, but to her surprise, her favorite place to be, was on a Chicago campground store porch, with her friend. Helen’s plan had always been, to spend her winters in a warm climate, but it was in the Colorado mountains, where Helen instead, found love, happiness, and so much more.

The Best of Us is a compelling story about love, sacrifice, facing fears and living life.

Thank you, Harlequin and NetGalley, for my advanced review copy.

Leigh has decided to leave the stressful job of working in a Chicago hospital, and has moved to small town Colorado instead. Working in a clinic, she is slowly getting to know the people in the friendly town, including single father Rob, who runs the local bar and eatery. Sparks fly and the chemistry is off the chart for these two. At the same time, her aunt Helen comes to visit, and meets Sully, a divorced man who runs a campground outside of town. Also, Rob's oldest son, who is a senior in high school, learns his girlfriend of six months has a brain tumor. It has been awhile since I've read one of Ms. Carr's books, not sure why, but truly enjoyed this one. Love how rich her characters are, and so blended in the fabric of the story it makes it really hard to put down. A sweet story, and one I highly recommend.

Sullivan’s Crossing is an absolute must read series! I completely devoured The Best of Us because it was SO DARN GOOD! I enjoy novels that have depth, but aren’t downers and Robyn Carr has a real gift for pulling at your heartstrings at parts, but at other parts you find yourself lol’ing— love that! From reading the book’s description I loved the premise, then combine the amazingly endearing characters and the charming location of Sullivan’s Crossing and it’s a recipe for an amazing 4.5 star read! Whenever I read a Sullivan’s Crossing installment, I always enjoy catching up with past favorites! I highly encourage everyone to read The Best of Us, but I promise that you will love the entire series!
