Jane Goodall

This book tells the story of how Jane Goodall got interested in chimpanzees from a very early age and what she did to follow her dreams. This is the first book I read from this series and I’m in loved! It’s quite difficult to find children’s books with strong female characters, and I can see myself buying most of the series for my daughter.

The illustrations are beautiful. The language is quite simple, but a bit dry for my taste sometimes. I actually enjoyed more the summary at the end of the book.

The book has a minor typo: it says it was originally published in Spain under the title Jane Austen! Not a big deal anyway.

Another great addition to the Little People, Big Dream series. I'd highly recommend for any young child who you want to introduce to great historical figures. Goodall's in particular is great for children who love animals. Also cool is that they list a few other children's biography books about the person on the back cover.

This is a beautiful tribute to a woman who was a scientist and powerful activist! Children will relate to Jane's vivid imagination and passion.

They have such a great message for kids.

Jane did not have the money to go to University right away, so instead she worked hard, proved herself, got her education (as well as real life experience) and became a leading figure in her field.
Showing kids that with hard work and determination you can achieve anything.
I love the illustrations and think this is a great book to add to your child's library.

This series is always a joy to read, it’s a really nice introduction to well known women for little children. Of course the plot is always a little bit fast but that’s to be expected and it’s totally understandable.
I personally admire Jane Goodall not only for her work as a chimpanzee researcher but also for her activism. This little book is definitely a nice way to give children a glimpse of knowledge about chimpanzees and also to show how important it is to preserve their natural habitat.

Jane Goodall is a truly inspirational lady, a real hero.

I adored this book about Jane Goodall. Early elementary age children will learn about Jane while enjoying adorable and warm illustrations. Adults will enjoy reading this book with or to a younger child. I particularly like the timeline that is included at the end of each of the Little People, Big Dreams books, which gives additional information about the subject's life.

Such an amazing, empowering concept!

I really like that with Jane Goodall the series is starting to include more "recent" heroines as well.
She might be more easy to relate to for young children, because she lives in the same world/time as they do.

I love the way the illustrations mix fantasy with the reality of the facts the author is telling us. For example, when we read about Jane's mother and the bedtime stories she told her little girl, both characters are shown against the backdrop of a magical nighttime, jungle-like landscape.

We learn about Jane Goodall, and we also learn a bit about chimpanzees. I think this is a perfect little book to inspire curiosity and a thirst for learning in young minds!

This is the first Little People, Big Dreams book I have read, and I have been considering ordering them from my library. Between the gorgeous illustrations and simple summary of Jane’s life, this is a must have! While I was originally thinking this series would compare along the lines of Itty Bitty Bios, I think it would better serve the upper elementary aged students at my school because the vocabulary is more complex. I enjoyed that there was a timeline at the end of the book as well. Thank you, NetGalley for the ARC!

This series of books are fun reads and Jane Goodall is no exception! A wonderful way for kids to be introduced to Goodall and her work! I foresee it flying off the library shelves.

This was the one I was most excited to be able to review. This look into an iconic figure not only ventures into the animal kingdom and will hopefully inspire young readers to conserve and protect, it demonstrates that a professional future is possible without higher education.

This is a wonderful book about Jane Goodell that any child will enjoy and understand. It sparks an interest in Jane and her lifetime of work.

Isabel is able to impress Jane's biography in a short book. The illustrations and the biographical facts are amazing and well explained for the young audience.

I love these picture book introductions to famous women of history.

And I espcially love that I learned things about Jane Goodall that I didn't know before.

Little things, such as she received a stuffed monkey as a child, and that was the start of her being interested in chimps and apes

Or that the professor that she worked with in Africa was Louis Leakey, the man who discovered Lucy, one of the most improtant fossil finds on ancient human kind.

Great little book, and a good introduction to the work that Jane Goodall did to get she is. I recommend this book for home and classroom.

A beautiful and interesting account of Dr. Goodall. I especially enjoyed the artwork and how the author was able to interweave simplistic details about Goodall's journey into the narrative in such an enjoyable fashion.

This is another in a series of books aimed at doing its part to redress the imbalance between genders when it comes to high achievers. This one shows young children that a determined young woman can do whatever she wants if she puts a mind to it.

The story simplifies Goodall's interesting and complex life considerably, but hopefully it will inspire children to read more about her as they mature. Her story is one of an abiding interest in animals ever since she was young, inspired in part by a plush toy she had as a child: a chimpanzee. From this simple beginning, she found her way to Africa and came into contact with famous human ancestry researcher Louis Leakey, who eventually dispatched her to work at Gombe, where Goodall's unorthodox research practices were at times criticized, but which nonetheless produced original and unexpected research results.

Goodall was one of three Leaky Ladies, so to speak, whom Leakey named 'The Trimates', the other two being Dian Fossey who died horribly at the hands of gorilla poachers, and Birutė Galdikas, who studied orangutans. Each of these has written one or more books on their studies. It would be nice to see a book in this series for each of the other two women. I commend this one as a great start.

A wonderful addition to the Little People, Big Dreams series. I love seeing new children's books about strong female scientists. This one will be on my list for older children story time programming next Fall. I can see an entire environmental/conservationist program forming with this book at its heart.

Jane Goodall is one of my heroines and I love this version of her story for little people. It's so important for children to have role models and this book is a great way to introduce children to a great woman.

Jane Goodall has been a very determined woman from her early childhood on. She knew early on what she wanted to do in life and she continues to not only do that, she continues to inspire people.
This small book brings Jane Goodall to young readers, exactly the right age to be inspired by her example.

I requested this book as I have to confess that I had no idea who Jane Goodall is - but now I do! As always this book is beautifully illustrated and cleverly tells the story of Jane's life. There are life lessons about perseverance, dedication, and conservation - the need to look after the land and animals around us.

Highly recommended for young readers who are interested in animals and wildlife.

Fun fact: I love monkeys of every size and form. I also love this feminist picture book series and thoroughly enjoyed this volume, Jane Goodall being a fascinating role model. This one in particular had the most detailled, adorable illustrations. The chimpanzees' expressions - cuuuuuuute! My boyfriend, a man of 27 years, was sitting next to me while I was looking at it, and went "wait, go back to the last page, I want to look at it again!" So it's definitely recommended as a goodnight story book for little and great apes.

This wasn't my favorite entry into the series, although I think Goodall is a terrific woman to profile for it. I felt that the author jumped into her story without enough introduction and it was a bit of a jarring start. Overall I would still recommend this for kids though!

This is one in a series of stand-alone books briefly detailing the lives of inspirational women. This one is about the famed primatologist Jane Goodall. She loved chimpanzees but could not afford to go to university to study them so she worked hard for her passage to Africa and through tireless work and dedication managed to create her dream career doing what she loved. The book also touches on the importance of conservation work. It’s aimed at four to seven year olds and is utterly charming with delightful illustrations and a brilliant message regarding achieving your goals and the significance of the environment.

This Little People, Big World series is outstanding! I have seen a few Littens on Litsy reviewing these books, and I simply knew I had to check them out. Sadly, my library doesn't have any of the collection... so you can imagine how excited I was to see these books on NetGalley. I have read about 4-5 others on NetGalley, and I simply adore them. Going into this one... I didn't really know much about Jane Goodall, but now I want to know more about her. The books are short, sweet, and beautifully illustrated. They are colorful, and exciting and they make learning fun for young children. They make learning fun for young ones, and I just can't get enough. I hope I can find the whole collection for my nieces and nephews.

In this interesting entry of the “Little People Big Dreams” series, we see how the famous scientist became fascinated by animals and went off to Africa instead of college, where she was in the right place at the right time to meet a famous scientist and launch her career.
This is my favorite in the series, even though I’ve never had an affinity for animal science. This one’s more inspirational, and will probably get a lot of little girls interested in the environment and saving the animals.

I loved this introduction to Jane Goodall for the Little People, Big Dreams series. It's fun, informative, and the artwork is gorgeous. Children and their families will be inspired by Goodall's tenacity and dedication to the animals and environment. Great addition to the series!

In this series, María Isabel Sánchez Vegara charts the lives of incredible women throughout history from their start as just young children with big dreams, to people who changed the world. Honestly, it is wonderful - we need to show children that they can follow in these people’s footsteps; that they can reach for the stars and become whoever they want to be. And, Jane Goodall is someone that children everywhere need to be talking about. A disproportionate amount of young women are seeing Goodall’s as viable options, and we need to show them that this amazing woman did it, so they can too! I mean, what little kid doesn’t love animals and wants to be a zookeeper? So where down the line are they discourage out of a career with them? Goodall’s story will show them that, if they work hard enough, childhood dreams don’t have to be pushed aside.
Read it for your children, read it for yourself - just read it and be inspired.

This is a truly inspiring story in a continually inspiring series.

Jane Goodall knew what she wanted from a young age and figured out a way to realize her dream. Starting from the moment that her father gave her a stuffed animal named Jubilee, Jane was in love with chimpanzees. Unable to afford university, she made her way to Africa, met Leakey and began to patiently observe chimps in the wild. Touchingly, she named the animals and did not only see them as research subjects. Through patient study, Jane learned a great deal and made an amazing discovery (read the book to find out what this was). In later years, she has fought tirelessly for our environment.

Jane is a determined woman and her story will encourage young readers to be determined in setting and keeping to their own biggest hopes and dreams.

Jane Goodall is part of the amazing Little People Big Dreams series which introduces important people of history to young readers.

Jane's life is very interesting and through the book children can learn about how she came in contact with the chimpanzees and how she got them to trust her. It also shows the importance of conservation of rain forests and how damage to these can result in danger for animals.

As always the illustrations were a treat and suited the book well.

I would recommend this book for parents or teachers who have young children who are interest in learning about people who changed the world.

his series briefly describes inspirational women who started as young children with a dream. A dream that meant a great deal to them.

Jane Goodall is a good example of just such a woman. When she was young her father gave her a stuffed chimpanzee named Jubilee. This little toy managed to spark her love for animals. But when it was time for her to attend university to study what meant so much to her, she didn't have the funds. However, like many with a dream, she managed to think of another way. She saved money until she could purchase a boat ticket to Kenya, in Africa. There she met, Louis Leakey, a well-known scientist who was looking for a researcher willing to study chimpanzees in the wild. Exactly the opportunity Jane was seeking.

This was the beginning of a small dream that ended up changing so many of our thoughts about chimps and nature. By dedicating her life to the thing she loved, Jane gained a large amount of knowledge and was able to share that love, which taught her so much, with many people.

My Thoughts
What Concerned Me: Though I'm a fan of this series, the artwork, for the most part, feels flat and doesn't work for me.

What I Liked Best: I am a great fan of a series that acquaints children with women (and people in general) who have made remarkable contributions to society.

Jane Goodall is a great addition of a Historical Woman in the “Little People, Big Dreams” collection. This is a wonderful introduction to children of Jane Goodall . It starts with her childhood when she was given a toy chimpanzee named Jubilee and how her mom would read her bedtime stories about the jungle. When she grew up, she traveled to Africa and met a scientist named Louis Leakey who gave her an opportunity to study apes. She spent the next 40 years sitting, studying, observing, and becoming friends with chimpanzees. She has spent her whole life defending wildlife and nature. She is an example of a strong woman that is good for all children to learn about.

This is a very concise introduction to the story of Jane Goodall written in the simplest language with colourful pictures. It outlines who she is and how she got there ( enough to catch the attention of a young child!). I have always admired her, It was fun to read about a woman who saw something beyond what most of the others of her time did and had the strength to dedicate her life to it. 
I would definitely encourage my nieces (and nephews) to read this book.

Her approach? The kindest one of this world. Maybe she did it also for feeling them more close to her soul.
Once returned to UK, she published her important discoveries in relevant scientific magazines. Jane continued to study chimps in the Gabe for 40 years and now she tries with all her strength to tell to everyone thanks to her many projects, the importance of living in a beautiful, harmonic and healthy Planet.

Parents will find this children's book captivating because there are a lot of thematic on the plate: nature, environment, animals, what it means the destruction created by us, and so problems connected with these animals and other ones as well: sacrifices for arriving; I insist that it is from childhood that children start to develop a good conscience and education, respect and healthy relationship with the environment close to them if the topic is introduced well by their parents.
That's why this book of this lady, Jane Goodall will make the difference. If you have a daughter, this series of books by Quarto are the most proper ones for let her understand the power that women have in the world. It's not just lipstick and high heels that will mark the existence of a girl (that one is the funniest and lightest part of the existence) but also a life spent sometimes in unknown directions, following difficult crusades but that can make the difference for the humanity or for a lot of people or...animals.
Not everyone will become a new Jane Goodall but this example, like the other ones proposed in the book series Lincoln's Children's Books by Quarto will inspire and will help your daughters to become best children and later, great adults with a critic perspective regarding life.

Jane Goodall is a new young reader book in the series Little People, Big Dreams. Written by Mª Isabel Sánchez Vegara and illustrated by Beatrice Cerocchi, it's due out 4th Oct, 2018 from Quarto publishing Frances Lincoln imprint. Aimed at younger readers, it's 32 pages, perfect for a storytime or classroom circle read. It's available in hardcover format.

I really love that this book shows young Lucy working for her dreams and give background about her early life. Bonus points for a cameo from Louis Leakey <3

Included at the end of the book is a very short bibliography for further suggested reading.

The book (and the series) is very high quality and the art by Beatrice Cerocchi is lovely and expressive (without being fussy).

Her story is inspiring; a perfect example to show children that hard work and perseverance are the key to success. Jane Goodall did not grow up with abundant resources. She worked hard and grasped every possible opportunities to pursue the dreams of her life.

The book "Jane Goodall" is part of the "Little People, Big Dreams" series, which uses short biographies to expose young children to a wide variety of famous people. This book gave a short description of the life of Jane Goodall, and her route into the studies of chimpanzees in Africa, her life's work. I believe that this book in particular would be useful with younger elementary children, in the first through third grades. It's language is easily accessible and the pictures correspond with the simple story. Those illustrations are lively with an element of whimsy. Overall, I would recommend this book to my students, and for any children who would like to learn more about the life of Jane Goodall.

Jane Goodall's dedication to anthropology and respect to animals, especially to chimpanzees, is a great influence to everyone, notably to the young readers of this children's storybook. Her passion and dedication to fulfill her dream to study animals are also quite inspiring. Despite that she can't afford to go to a university, she did everything she can to accomplish her goals even to this day.

A beautiful person, inside and out, Jane Goodall is one of the role models that young kids should look up to. Her vision to set awareness on the African jungles starting to disappear, and the protection of the wildlife animals and their natural habitat are the vital information that this book wants to impart to all readers. My love of Jane Goodall started when I was very young. If I had a daughter I would not hesitate to purchase this cute little book and introduce her to my hero, Dr. Goodall.

Before reading this book, I’d heard the name Jane Goodall but knew nothing about who she was or why she was a significant figure.

This book taught me most of what I needed to know, and pointed me to where I might find out more if I desired. The colourful, simple pictures illustrated the story of Jane’s life beautifully and made it very child friendly, As with other books in the series, this was followed by a more adult friendly biography over a double page spread.

This would be a great book for our Year 6 classes to use as part of their animal detectives topic and a great starting point to learn about a woman who learned so much about a close relative of humans.

This "Little People, Big Dreams" series is absolutely gorgeous and a great way to teach and inspire the little kids. The illustrations speak on their own that there isn't much need for work. An absolute delight to read and great book for the little ones.

Very cute book, perfect to give children a bit of an overview about an important person to give them a quick overview of a life and achievements without going overboard with details that children might find boring.
I think it would be a perfect book for any child showing interest in working with animals or knowing what women can achieve!

I am so glad this book series exists. The illustrations are gorgeous and they are such an easy and fun way to get very young children interested in history early on while inspiring them with stories of little people who have changed the world in their own ways.

We were thrilled to get a chance to get to read another book from the Little People, Big Dreams series. I didn’t know that much about Jane Goodall so all three of us learned a lot and we loved the additional information section in the back too. We were so interested by this book that we actually spent a while watching videos of Jane Goodall working with animals and then pretending to be chimpanzees. I would heartily recommend this as a great choice for an engaging read!

This series is by far one of my favorite non-fiction series to have in a classroom or to share at home. Introducing children to all of these amazing women in a simple and engaging text is perfect. The story of Jane Good all helps children learn about her mind, goals and desires. I will definitely be adding to my classroom.

This is another brilliant addition to this series – even as an adult I look out for the next book in the series being released. I love the images in this series and this is a delightful introduction to Jane Goodall, a lady who fascinated me as a child!

They are excellent introductions to some of the well-known, and less well-known, characters that have had a great impact in our lives through a variety of subjects such as literature, women’s rights and science. Jane is an inspiration to me and her story should be shared with children to show what she managed to achieve in what was predominately a male field at that time.

Again I say, I LOVE this series of books. Love, love, love! It should go without saying that I am especially besotted with the editions about women I have a great deal of respect for, and Jane Goodall is certainly one of those.

Through this wonderfully illustrated picture book, we learn about how Jane Goodall came to be the world's most famous conservationist. From a small child, given a chimpanzee stuffed animal as a one-year-old, she seemed destined to a future involving animals. Gifted with a strong and consistent focus, her parents encouraged her to pursue her dreams, and despite not being able to pursue college, she found another way to achieve her dreams of working with animals, and after years working with chimpanzees in the wild, she was eventually able to complete her Ph.d. in Animal Studies at Cambridge University. 

What a wonderful story! It exemplifies what is possible if we are flexible in the pursuit of our dreams (there is always more than one way!). It exposes young minds to the magic of nature and to the importance of animal study and conservation. And once again, the series introduces the profile of a strong, smart, independent woman who carved out the life she wanted.
