It took till about a quarter way through to become comfortable in the story, Although this is the sixth book in this series , it’s a standalone so I’ve missed nothing before .
However it was quite intriguing and I kept reading to the end , I’m glad to say it was enjoyable.
A little dark a little sweet , and I came away feeling like I’d enjoyed my time reading it , so my advise is stick with it .
Note that this was my fist time reading this author, and it was most likely just my reaction to a new style of writing, Do give this a go if Ms Masters is new to you .

Dark, dangerous, brooding and, in his opinion, unredeemable, Radolf, Duke of Wolferton, doesn't fear death but welcomes it. Guilt-ridden because of his sinful past, the tormented hero of the Waterloo wars, honour-bound, believes he is undeserving of any woman's love and closely guards his black heart. Jaclyn Moreux, his ward, cannot deny his allure and the sizzling attraction that grows. She is lured by his seductive charm and the danger and passion in his embrace. But a treacherous villain sets about disparaging the duke to Jaclyn with lies and half-truths.
A different take on a Regency romance & whilst I did enjoy the book I’m not a lover of fantasy, supernatural novels. This well written book had a story that didn’t lag & the characters were well fleshed. I liked the book but it didn’t have me in raptures, I've read other books by the author & will certainly read more of her romances
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

A power passed down through the centuries to the Wolferton family. The family mascot and coat of arms was the red wolf that began the legend and was captured in a stain glass piece that showed the wolf with a strong warrior and it had magical powers that only they could see.
London 1825 Radolf (red wolf) the 14th Earl of Wolferton had a ward. Jaclyn. that he had not seen since she was ten and sent to school. Upon her arrival as an adult, it seemed the glass glowed as she greeted Radolf and it seems the story begins. Radolf has had a terrible past, although touted a hero of the battle at Waterloo. He is a dark character that needs to be brought to the light and it seems Jaclyn may be the answer. But she is lured by his charm and seductive passion in his embrace but there are outside forces that may pulled them apart.
There are several twist and turns in this fast paced story that will keep you enthralled until the end.

Radolf, Duke of Wolferton has been caring for a fallen soldier's daughter for ten years. He hasn't seen her in all that time as she has been in school. She is his ward and she is coming to stay with him and his sister until a husband is found for her. There is a stained glass portrait that hangs in his library of a warrior and a red wolf in honor of a prophesy. When Jaclyn arrives at the manor, Radolf senses something about her. There is a deep attraction there but she is an innocent and he is a thirty six years old "sinner" who does not believe he is worthy of her. As they fight their attraction, an undesirable Lord wants Jaclyn and will stop at nothing to get her. Will she be saved and will Radolf admit that he cares for her. There is a supernatural element that runs throughout the story that I loved. It was there when needed and manifested in an interesting way. I would recommend this book highly. Loved everything. A love story between an older Duke and his young ward.
Radolf tries to keep his feeling for his ward Jaclyn to his self but the more they are together he realizes he care for and maybe even loves her.
Jaclyn loved her protector for years and now she has a chance to let him know.
Will his age keep them apart? Will he realize he is not as evil as he thinks.
Good drama,suspense and passion.

The Wolferton family had long been the guardians of the red wolf who passed on a mystical power as thanks. A stain glass window depicting a red wolf and a warrior now holds that power and its magic can only be seen by the family. When Radolf meets Jaclyn, he is disconcerted to find the glass react to her and even stranger, Jaclyn has noticed it too.
Radolf does not believe he is worthy of Love and likes to further his black reputation. He tries to brush aside the feelings Jaclyn arouses but when danger dogs her step he must confront his demons.
I found this story to be an okay read. While part of a series it can be read as a standalone. While there were some elements I enjoyed. I found it hard to connect to the main characters which made it difficult to finish the book,
